Episode 7
This episode covered only a single chapter, 211. Technically it covered less than a single chapter, since it began on page 6 of 211.
After the first scene at Kaio’s, there’s a left-in filler scene of Gohan and Piccolo fighting. This leads up to the manga scene where Gohan and Piccolo discuss Piccolo’s grudge against Goku.
In the manga, the narrator says that 40 days pass before Goku catches Bubbles, while in Z and Kai the narrator says only three weeks pass. This is because in Z and Kai, the 40 day period between Goku arriving at Kaio’s planet and Kaio beginning to seriously train is split between Goku catching Bubbles and then Gregory, while in the manga there is only Bubbles.
Much of the filler expanding on Goku’s pursuit of Bubbles is kept in, as are the extra puns of Kaio’s that were added into the anime. Most importantly, the anime shows Goku finally catch Bubbles by figuring out that he can head Bubbles off by running the other way across the planet, since it is so small. In the manga, Goku catches Bubbles simply by getting used to the higher gravity on Kaio’s planet.
After Goku catches Bubbles, in the manga Kaio says that there are 118 days left. Then, after mentioning that Goku just might be able to master the Kaio-ken, he thinks to himself about how even he never could learn the Kaio-ken himself, and he cryptically refers to “that technique”, foreshadowing the Genki-Dama. He then asks Goku if he can handle his training, saying that he will make Goku the best in universe. In Z and Kai, this whole bit is moved to after Goku hits Gregory with the hammer.
There’s another left-in filler scene of Piccolo and Gohan fighting, as well as a filler scene showing Tenshinhan and the others’ training under Kami and Popo. Finally, there’s a very brief, wordless, scene showing Vegeta and Nappa asleep in their spaceships which leads into the eye-catch.
After the eye-catch is the start of a lengthy filler sequence featuring Gregory, who Kaio makes Goku hit with a hammer as the next part of Goku’s training. At this point, Kaio mentions that there are 135 days left until Vegeta and Nappa reach Earth.
After the first part of the Gregory sequence, there’s finally a manga scene where Kami tells Tenshinhan and the others that he has nothing more to teach them, and that they should go back down to Earth to finish their training on their own.
Then it’s back to the Gregory bit: the narrator says that 2 weeks have passed, and Goku succeeds in hitting Gregory. This is where Kaio’s speech to Goku has been moved, only the final part, where Kaio says that they’ll have some tea first before they start training, has been removed.
Next episode: Come Forth, Shenlong! The Saiyans Finally Reach Earth
The next episode preview shows Goku being brought back to life, and Vegeta and Nappa coming out of their spaceships on Earth, so it will cover at least 212-213.
Wasted Wisher said that we will get to see Goku beating up on Nappa by episode 12. Goku starts fighting Nappa in chapter 224, so in order for that to work they'll have to cover about 2.4 chaptes per episode from here on out.

Incidentally, I just realized that the title for episode 8 is the same as the one for Z episode 21.

Ok, after listening to the second newest DaizEX Podcast, I have to say this again.
Liking Kai, but Hating the Saban/FUNi dubs does NOT MAKE US HYPOCRITES!!!
God, I'm getting so tired of this, and just when I thought it had died down a bit, MIKE AND MERI SAY IT IN THE PODCAST!!
Look. Anyone who thinks we're hypocrites for liking Kai but hating Saban/FUNi does NOT KNOW WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM WITH SABAN AND FUNi WAS!!
Ok, they made Violence edits, it sucks but they were made to get the show on TV, same deal with Kai but OH MY, LOOK AT THAT!! Saban Removed ALL BLOOD PERIOD!! Kai has actually LEFT PLENTY IN!! Oh wow!!
And here's the REAL problem with Saban. Are you ready for it?
THE SCRIPT!!
"Look at the little birdie"
"Your Father was a BRILLIANT SCIENTIST!!"
"You just wait till it grows back"
Pretty much all the dialog during the Son Vs. Vegeta fight now that I think about it
Most of Freeza's dialog, especially calling Son "Big Boy"
"I've known Goku since he was 5 years old!"
"General Tao" and "Dr. Gero was the Leader of the Red Ribbon Army".
The fact of the matter is, to some of us, the amount of blood present and little boy penis didn't make Dragon Ball for us. the STORY did. And Saban and FUNi really did a number on the script, screwing up the story.
So far, Kai hasn't screwed up anything story-wise, and I'm 100% sure this won't be changing
As long as Kai doesn't make any BLATANT Script problems like that, then there is NO WAY it's ANYWHERE NEAR as bad as Saban or FUNi. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Stop calling us Hypocrites just because we, god forbid enjoy the "Trainwreck" that is Kai... Please...

Huh? No they didn't. They said they're not "giving it a free pass", and that there are things about it they don't like. They also said that if they DID like it, they wouldn't be "hypocrites".DemonRin wrote:God, I'm getting so tired of this, and just when I thought it had died down a bit, MIKE AND MERI SAY IT IN THE PODCAST!!
Seriously, you're looking to be persecuted or something. Really. Settle down and watch the goddamn cartoon.
Mike said "One little point of Hypocracy I would want to point out is, we DON'T Love Kai, but if we were to love Kai, what would be the problem with fans of the Japanese Version of DBZ to love Kai, that would be any different than FUNimation fans to love the redub of Seasons 1 and 2"Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Huh? and I read that and quoted it directly, I might be a SLIGHT bit off, but it's not majorly so, I didn't do this from memory, I listened and typed.
Basically saying, that if you Love Kai, it's no different than Loving FUNimation's Z.
Either that, or I read completely wrong into it, which is possible.

Where I was going and being slightly mis-paraphrased on is that if it is OK for FUNimation dub fans to like and accept a re-dub of that version (which has happened), why should it be any different for fans of the Japanese version?
Of course, the differences are big enough that it's not a perfect parallel, but it's at least food for thought. Just because there are people who are fans of the original Japanese version of the show (as there are... millions... worldwide), that doesn't inherently mean that they are ALL AGAINST A NEW VERSION OF IT. "Japanese" doesn't necessarily mean "original". Someone could like the Japanese voices and dislike Shunsuke Kikuchi's score; Kai might be of interest to them. Are they somehow hypocritical? What about if they're not even from North America and have zero familiarity with FUNimation and their products...? Quite frankly, there's a crap-ton of those types of people.

Alright, so today I had some free time to do a little experiment with the Son Goku VS. Vegeta battle pre-Oozaru. Considering I got it down to about 4 and a half minutes altogether, I was curious to see what a non-filler version would look like!
So, I took a few minutes today to edit it all the way down to... 12 and a half minutes.
That's right, the entire fight, if you edit it panel for panel, is 12 and a half minutes long; from touchdown, to the very end of the Kamehameha/Galick Gun struggle. 13 and a half minutes if you include the filler fighting from episode 31 with Goku headbutting Vegeta and then knocking him into the plateu.
I'm interested to see how they'll handle it in the show. I firmly believe they'll be able to combine, entirely, episode 30 and 31 into 1 whole episode. I was able to edit down, with no loss of any canon content, both of them to 19 minutes and 40 without the opening and ending.
If anyone is curious, this kind of editing of the episode would effectively cover 7 chapters of the manga.
Mind you, of course, there is a scene in Chapter 233 that would originally take place in episode 31, if things were to be editing souly along the lines of the manga, that appears instead in episode 32. However, if you use only Episode 31's footage, you'd effectively still have two episodes into one, no problem.
... I know, I'm a geek. =3

Still making the top 10: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... g-may-4-10
With a 9.1 no less!
No matter how bizarre some parts of Kai are, I still get a huge kick out of seeing it beat out all these new shows with what's effectively almost the same footage from Z.

One recent example would be Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger. It began airing on TV on January 6th, and the first DVD came out on April 22nd. There's been no Blu-ray release of it announced that I'm aware of, and it *is* being broadcast in HD.Kendamu wrote:On that note, I wonder when there'll be Kai Blu-Rays. How long does it take for a home release of modern anime to come out after the premier of the television broadcast nowadays?

Something I'm thinking about that hasn't been mentioned is this: with the sky being so much darker in these scenes, who's to say whether it'll be blue or green during the sunset scenes?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
