Oricon poll: The strongest manga character of all time

Post by goodguy777 » Thu Jun 11, 2009 2:32 am

In a survey conducted by Oricon in 2007 among 1,000 people, Goku ranked first place as the "Strongest Manga character of all time.

http://rn-cdn.oricon.co.jp/news/ranking/45750/#rk

That's all I could make out of the article. Perhaps the ones who can read Japanese better than I can, can provide more details from the article.
It's a gag manga! It never was nor was it meant to be scientifically sound or accurate.

I tried to run it through Google's translation; but that didn't help much (the chart's an image, not text TT_TT ).

Congratulations to Goku. Its nice to hear.

1. Son Goku (DragonBall)
2. Doraemon (Doraemon)
3. Kenshirou (Fist of the North Star)
4. Monky D. Luffy (One Piece)
5. Norimaki Arale (Dr. Slump)

Oh nice! :D

Thank you so much for the translation, Herms!

Google was saying the 2nd one was Doraemon...

Luffy being in 4th explains that D in the middle of the name. :3

I like that two of Mr. Toriyama's characters made the top 5. XD

Some of the other suggested strongest manga characters, who didn't make the top five: Dio (JoJo's Bizzare Adventure), Raoh (Fist of the North Star), Kira (Death Note; "as long as he's got the Death Note, he can easily defeat even Goku"), Golgo 13, Sailor Moon, Mazinger Z, Lucky Man ("no matter how strong you are, nobody can win againt the strongest luck"), Ryouma Echizen (Prince of Tennis), Astro Boy, and Haruhi Suzumiya.

I think Goku is the strongest comic book character of all time - the reason being, if he ever meets a stronger opponent, he'll just train for 20 episodes and become stronger than it.

Arale is obviously the strongest because she comes from a gag manga.

She can break the Earth in half with one punch. We never even see Goku do that.

I stand by what I said. Never underestimate the power of filler.

Yeah, it's one of her trademark moves. She can also break the moon to pieces by throwing a rock at it, and run faster than mach 1.5.

Well, this is specifically a poll on the strongest manga character, so filler is kind of irrelevant.

That reminds me of a strongest top ten list I saw once. Vegetto was #3, Kira was #2 with his description being he's the cheapest character of all time with the ability to just write someone's name and poof, they drop dead. A character named Luckyman was #1 because apparently no matter who he fights, his outstanding luck guarentees he'll win... somehow.

Yeah, Lucky Man was another one of the nominated characters who didn't crack the top 5 (see my post above).

Oh wow, Gokû and Luffy in the top five? Awesome!!

Makes one wonder what they'd say if they included American comics...

Somehow I doubt the top 5 would change any. I don't think most people gave this any sort of scientific analysis. They just voted for their favorite manga character who happened to be strong.

Incidentally, does anyone know why Doraemon would be considered strong? I'm not too familiar with the series aside from just what I've picked up by osmosis, and all I know about his abilities is that he's a robotic time-travelling cat with an endless supply of gadgets. Are the gadgets why he'd be considered strong, or does he have other powers?

It would be out of character for me to do otherwise so I am going ahead and say it. :)

How in hell did Vegeta not even make the list?!!! Let alone let that joke of a manga character Luffy get the #4 spot. What are people in Japan smoking!!!!

You are correct sir.

They be smokin' Gomu-Gomu no Wîdō. 8)

Maybe only one character from each series was allowed?

Well if that was the case I understand, we all know how they are more “Goku” nuts in Japan than the States.

But would he have to write "Son Goku" or "Kakarot" for it to take effect?
