And most of them hated DBE too.

Of course, but the Box Office numbers speak for themselves. Also, it's pretty safe to assume that the vast majority of the fans didn't like DBE one bit. This forum might not represent the whole fan community, but when many well-known DB forums get pretty much the same responses, I think it sets the tone.

Where is the proof of this, sure it was not a blockbuster but it surpassed its budget and we still have not seen the results from the DVD sales when it is released. It has done well enough to warrant this 8-page thread, which most likely will become longer if Mike does not lock it at some point. When people complain about something continuously that gets others attention and they will want to judge a matter for themselves. Daizenshuu Ex forums among others plus those silly French guys that had the “Goku” funeral may have done more for DB:E than anyone else could have possibly done.

I don't mean to jump in here, but I'd just like to point out that, in my experience seeing DBE, there was one family in the theatre and myself. That was IT! The only reason it made its money back at all was because it had so low a budget.

It barely surpassed is budget. That does not make it a success. People do not spend fifty million to make one million dollars. It was a failure on any leval you want to use.

It did exactly 1 million dollars above it's budget worldwide. That's sad. And here in the US it didn't even crack 10 million (I believe).

This is true. DbtheMovie's main page's numbers for it are:
Domestic: $9,142,557
+ Foreign: $46,880,853
= $56,023,410
On hiatus.

You'll probably want to wait for those to be made into live action movies, then. Because that's simply not Dragon Ball.
"I love ice-cream, but I also like seafood pizza. I don't get why you wouldn't want seafood pizza-flavored ice-cream!"
Is it so wrong to want a contemporary version of Dragonball?
Whoa, wait. It's a series from the 80's and 90's, so it's not "contemporary" anymore?
Or what about One Piece, then? Does that mean it never was "contemporary"?
Is ice-cream now a thing of the past that should be tinkered with?

Your wasabi-flavored ice-cream is the Speed Racer movie! I'm not sure I approve!

You are right. Because if we didn't give it any attention, nobody would have. Us giving it attention has made it a financial blockbuster. Oh wait...maybe this could be we like discussing stuff. Whether we care about DBE is irrelevant for the most part.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

However they go about this I do agree that they should reboot it, whether this means they start from the beginning or just carry on but reboot for the next saga that the sequel is based on.

I think it is fair to say this doesn't mirror the manga or anime but instead is an adaptation on the Dragon Ball universe, however when I was watching it if there wasn't stars on the Dragon Balls I wouldn't have felt like I was watching a Dragon Ball movie.

This live action clearly hasn't done any favors for the franchise, we can assume pretty much all of the fans of Dragon Ball watched it for whatever reason and then some new fans but clearly not that many as otherwise the profit made would've been larger as I doubt they would've made the film with the intentions of only making $1 million.

Wherever they go from here they are going to have to step up their game and either change it to appeal to current fans or make it kick ass enough to appeal to future fans or maybe if they do it right it could appeal to both.

Look, say what you want but Fox is going to do what it wants to do and there nothing that anyone can do about it, so you might as well sit back and have some cheese with that “whine”. It is going in a direction that I prefer so I guess I will be the only one to enjoy the film or films. You can say it is not Dragonball but the ones who own the rights can…deal with it.

Concerning the amount of total profit it made/will make still remains to be seen, even if it made a million over its budget apparently Fox is happy enough to continue with the project if the rumors turn out to be true. At the end of the day, that is what counts to them and they have the final say in the matter. Even Toriyama cannot do anything because of contractual obligations unless he wants to give up some of that fortune he has acquired over the years in court costs.

I seriously doubt anything can make the hardcore “real Dragonball fans” happy. Even if they have flying talking cats, pigs and imps running around with a “Goku” that behaves like an idiotic clown, some of those very same ““real Dragonball fans” will bitch and complain about something. ‘Kuririn’s head is not shiny enough’ or “Goku did not eat enough like in the manga, he should have eaten 5 turkey legs instead of 4!" It would go on ad infinitum.

Star Trek proved that you can appeal to both fans and the general public and still make a kickass movie. The only ones that bitch like in the examples you give are the ones in the tiniest minority and, frankly, I think your being a bit melodramatic simply because people aren't drinking Fox's kool-aid.

I realize you've been criticized quite a bit in this topic (and others), but I'm not sure shooting back like that will help any.

I wouldn't say that. Star Trek and Dragon Ball are wildly different in many ways.

By that logic, why should a motion picture adaptation of anything be made, if some assholes are just going to bitch? It may big budget and commercial anymore, but cinema is still an artform and criticism is part of that. However the commercial aspect comes in where they want to make as much money as possible. You can't please everyone, but why just break even if you can potentially make a tremendous profit by pleasing the majority?

Fox failed in there first attempt at this, if they do intend to continue with the franchise, a new route is obviously needed.

Who said I didn't enjoy the film? I enjoyed it and will probably enjoy the sequel (if made), I was just saying that it didn't feel like Dragon Ball.

Maybe you should be abit more open minded on the subject, not everyone is against this film apart from you.

You're right that it might not make the hardcore fans happy but they don't have to watch it, honestly it's their choice and when they have been put at gun point and forced to watch the film that is when I think they have a right to criticize it in the way they do however I do take into account this is not the case for everyone.

It was not directed towards you but the “real Dragonball fan” crowd that believes unless someone falls lock step with his or her vision of Dragonball then the person is not a real fan of the series. You know the ones that forget that this was a children’s series and most likely, they are adults now or act as if that have stock in the franchise or that their life would end if someone touched Dragonball. In other words, the people that attacks me constantly just about ever since I became a member of this forum.

You're not doing much to make it stop. Again:
I seriously doubt anything can make the hardcore “real Dragonball fans” happy. Even if they have flying talking cats, pigs and imps running around with a “Goku” that behaves like an idiotic clown, some of those very same ““real Dragonball fans” will bitch and complain about something. ‘Kuririn’s head is not shiny enough’ or “Goku did not eat enough like in the manga, he should have eaten 5 turkey legs instead of 4!" Where to begin...

"Even if they have flying talking cats, pigs and imps running around"
Does it sound like you're ridiculing early Dragon Ball? I'm not su...

"with a “Goku” that behaves like an idiotic clown"
... Okay, yeah, it does.
Love the quotation marks around the name of the main character, by the way. How ridiculous are those hardcore fans to call him how he's called, huh?

"those very same ““real Dragonball fans” will bitch and complain about something. ‘Kuririn’s head is not shiny enough’ or “Goku did not eat enough like in the manga, he should have eaten 5 turkey legs instead of 4!" It would go on ad infinitum."
Because they're not reasonable people! Those silly people who constantly attack me simply aren't reasonable!

Well, that sure is a clear-cut situation.

As much as I think the whole "you're not a real fan!" thing is horribly usunoroed, you're really not helping your case, here.
