I'm thinking something like...The Time Traveller wrote:Yeah, like during a summary do parts like "Saiyan Arc; Age: Characters Age at this point."
"Five years pass from the time of Piccolo's second attempt to conquer the world, Son Goku (24) visits with his friends again, revealing to him his son, Son Gohan (4)..."
Except not written so terribly on the fly.

I already mentioned doing something like that: having a personalized timeline for each character showing what year important events happened to them, and how old they were, like they do on the Japanese Wikipedia pages for DB characters. So for Kuririn, it would go something like:JulieYBM wrote:Ah, and I am reminded...shall we incorporate Herms' Age Guide into the Wiki as well? Whether as just listing them next to a information like height and weight or going beyond that and incorporating them into the summerization of character histories?
Age 736: born
Age 740 (4 years old): enters Oorin Temple
Age 749 (13): becomes a pupil of Kame-sennin and meets Goku
Etc.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Splended idea, good sir. This will make researching just that much easier...Herms wrote:I already mentioned doing something like that: having a personalized timeline for each character showing what year important events happened to them, and how old they were, like they do on the Japanese Wikipedia pages for DB characters. Maybe a "notable events" instead? Just so we don't have near-identical timelines all over the wikia, I mean.Herms wrote:I already mentioned doing something like that: having a personalized timeline for each character showing what year important events happened to them, and how old they were, like they do on the Japanese Wikipedia pages for DB characters. I thought about them all looking the same, but I don't think it should be too much of a problem. For one, people get born at different times. Gohan's timeline won't include many of the years that Goku's does, since he wasn't born during many of them, and Goten's one would include even less. Also, even if the same years would be included in each one due to the major story arcs, the entries for each year would look pretty different depending on the character. For instance, in 762 Yamcha dies fighting a Saibaiman and spends the rest of the time training at Kaio's, while Krillin survives the fight with the Saiyans and sets off for Namek. Finally, everyone's age will be different, and I think have a reference for what age the character is during the events of the series is good to have.

Sorry to double-post, but I had another idea about how a filter for this wiki could work. You know how on Wikipedia, on the left hand side of each page, there's a list of links to the different versions of that article in various languages? Would it be at all possible for us to have something like that for this wiki, only instead of different languages, there would be different versions of the article based on different dubs and translations? So for instance, the default version an article would use the Daizenshuu EX naming scheme, based off of the Japanese version, but if someone wanted to, they could click the link on the left and read a version of the article that uses the Funi dub names, or the Viz names. I think that would be a great way for this Wiki to appeal to the different types of fans, if they can adjust it to their own preferences. Would it be possible to set up a name filter that would work like that, where it could switch between displaying different versions of the name depending on the setting?

While I agree with you it wouldn't be a particularly daunting task. Mostly just a copy and paste job with name alterations.Adamant wrote:20 different versions of every single article, just to please some people who don't want to read "Son Goku"?
I really don't think there's a point in that.

But still at least a little daunting. Also kind of convuluted for something that really sounds redundent.NeptuneKai wrote:While I agree with you it wouldn't be a particularly daunting task. Well, my idea was that there'd be only one article, but you could toggle what names are used between different sets. But I don't know if that would be at all feasible.

Sounds possible. Probably easy using PHP, even. But I forget how since I haven't done it for a while...and I have no idea how Wikis work beneath the surface.Herms wrote:Well, my idea was that there'd be only one article, but you could toggle what names are used between different sets. It is very possible. I know quite a bit of PHP and have some experience coding for MediaWiki. It would be as simple as creating a system message (something like "MediaWiki:Namefilters") and putting versions of each character's names in each row, with each column being a different "set" of names. A cookie or a session variable (preferably the latter) would be used to keep track of the user's choice of name set. The extension will modify each page behind the scenes each time it is served, replacing any version of any name used in another set to the chosen name version. It would also work on article "talk" pages, of course, so by default it'd be filtering out all those "Freeza's" and "Hercules" like the forum's own word filter does.
But as simple as it is (for a PHP guy like me, that is), I'd agree with Adamant in that it really isn't necessary.

Guys, this Wiki is going to be super cool. I don't know if any of you realize this yet. I can't wait to get to work and be a part of something big like this.
I has a question. How are fan projects like the Daizex Podcast and TeamFourStar's Abridged going to be handled on the Wiki? Single articles? Or really in depth stuff, like trivia and full transcripts of every episode?

Should that stuff even be a part of it? I mean, it's outside material that's related to Dragon Ball in pretty much nomenclature only. If TFS is going on there, why not the hundreds of other abridged series all over YT?
It's not my call, but I personally wouldn't do it.
