Hey, I hear that internet is actually useful in some cases!

Not like I'd turn down the chance to go off on a trip down nostalgia lane with Toonami, but where exactly does it say that June 24, 1999 was when DBZ first aired on Toonami? I know it's not the best source, but:
Wikipedia wrote:The dubbed episodes premiered in the United States on The WB in September 1996, though it was eventually canceled in May 1998. During the fall of the same year, the dub began airing on Cartoon Network as part of the channel's new Toonami programming block. Soon after, Funimation continued dubbing the series from where the syndicated dub left off, now using their own in-house voice actors, a new musical score, and less editing. The new dub of DBZ ran on Cartoon Network from September 1999 to April 2003.
Also, gotta second SSj_Rambo's thoughts on Toonami Digital Arsenal. Though they really should revamp the site to have the clips play through something like the YouTube. Skimming through their site, I love how Meri's site is uh... cited for one of the DBZ commercials :D.

EDIT:

Sooo true! I (finally) caught the first Transformers movie and immediately thought that when he first spoke!

And I may be completely wrong with this, but didn't Toonami also air an edited version of the first Brolly movie? Doing a quick YouTube search, I could be wrong, but just thought I'd bring it up.

Wait... April 2003? I know the Dragon Ball dub finished its original run December 2003, but I thought the Dragon Ball Z dub finished shortly after? I know that I posted this thread on Pojo the February of 2004, and I could've sworn that new episodes were still being aired back then... was it really April 2003? That just sounds too early to me for the dubbed Goku vs. Uub.

Yeah, it was definitely early 2003. It was before I moved to Georgia which was August 2003. They started showing the uncut Season 1 & 2 episodes later, if that's what you're thinking.

The adverts were practically amv's and lasted a good while. I've been searching for a while now for the Dragonball one that was out during the Boo saga. It had the Foo Fighters ''All my life'' track playing in the background for it.

I found one from CNX , it's not the best of quailty but it's a sample of what the adverts were like, I really wish i'd recorded them.

Here's a DBZ promo from CNX. It doesn't have Foo Fighters in the background, but it's really good anyway,.

Thanks man. It's good to see CNX adverts haha. I'm liking how we've got what could be like a saiyan saga Kaiōken in the Kid Boo clip haha. =)

Heh, I remember this ad.

"The miraculous powers of the Dragon Balls are the only hope to stop this mass-annihalation."

... If you say so, CNX.

Indeed, Toei animated the entire first season, as well as the majority of the 2nd season, parts of the 3rd, and the movie.

It sucks that kids today are ignorant and don't know good programming anymore. :P

Nah, it's not going off topic if anything it's got more interesting. It's good to read people's opinions on how Dragonball was viewed when they were growing up, the effects of the advertising, and the kind of tv stations programmes like Dragonball were aired on. I mean, we've already started talking about it, it's kind of related to the topic.

It's good to compare the differences from what it was like when we grew up watching shows like Dragonball, to how the market and t.v shows are like now. People are posting about it, so they're obviously interested and we may as well talk about it before this thread gets forgotten anyways. :P

Nice find there. I've been going through the clips that are posted there. I haven't seen all of them before. I miss the Dragonball adverts, infact I miss a lot of the adverts which were on Toonami, heck even Cartoon Network. I guess they just don't do things the way they used to anymore. You don't happen to know any other sites like that one do you?

Yes. This thread must... go... on... to .... keep... Toonami... alive. Even if it's just for a short time ;)
