To quote Kanzentai (Yes, there's a site with info on the Dragon Boxes :)):
These images, including the outlined Shenron on the back, are all original artwork by veteran DragonBall artist Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi.
And for the record... there are exactly seven images associated with the Z Dragon Boxes. FUNimation rep Adam Sheehan even said "We're using the original Japanese artwork"... Think about it people... There really shouldn't be much of a debate about it.

Sorry... I was actually ON Kanzentai looking, I use that site for all my Japanese-side Info on DB, but there's SO MUCH info that wading through it is sometimes hard...

Now I feel like a moron...

I'm quite bothered by the fact that, in Japan, the first set had 174 episodes, but here it's only 40-odd episodes... meh, meh, meh and more meh.

Would you rather they release them in 2 HUGE boxed sets like Japan, only you then have to pay 300 bucks in one shot?

I don't know about you, but my Bank account would assassinate me if I did that.

Well, if that's what it takes to get the sets, I'm OK with it. And, that only means more 80 page booklets, so yay!

Could be worse. They could have 13 episode sets at $50 like how they're doing with the majority of their releases.

they have to do that with other series' because the other series are NEW.

One Piece for example. They JUST got One Piece so they are JUST NOW putting all the money in to get the Masters, to get the dubbing done and get the DVDs done and printed.

Older series like Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and the titles they got from Other companies like Slayers and Vandread can have bigger Episode-to-Box ratios because this is a Rerelease they're doing, so they've already done the work and more than broke even on them. So they can afford to offer them now for discounted prices, because everything they make NOW is gravy.

The DBoxes are SLIGHTLY different however, because they probably paid Toei a decent ammount of money for the DBox Masters, which is why you only have 3 more episodes than the Original FUNi Season One, but it costs just a tad Shy of Double.

I'm well aware of that.

I'm just saying that getting 40+ episodes in Dragon Box quality for $80 isn't a bad deal.

Funimation also has FMA season one for $69.98 for 25 episodes and that is also re-release. (The third release to be exact.) It doesn't have improved video quality nor any special booklets or anything.

I too have to agree with the spanned out releases. If it was a $300+ box coming out in November, I wouldn't be able to get it.

Also, I'd like to point out something I thought kinda funny.

I don't know about you guys, but I lol'd.

And the seven pics... Maybe I can get this close to appropriate;

Volume 1 001-042 (Goku)
Volume 2 043-084 (Freeza)
Volume 3 085-125 (Gohan? because of the Garlic Jr Saga?)
Volume 4 126-166 (Vegeta, I'd say he's featured prominently here)
Volume 5 167-206 (Imperfect Cell? Even though it's the Cell Games, it'll have to do)
Volume 6 207-249 (Piccolo... just because)
Volume 7 250-291 (SSJ Goku, because at least it fits lol)
In a ditch somewhere

Has anybody seen just the preview? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwCdi9OTXVo

There it is, by itself. Looks like that's the official trailer. How obnoxious.

Well I just saw the clip in a higher quality today, I can confirm that they did indeed receive the dragon box masters. If it was bull I'd still be buying the dbz singles(though those have superior cover art...)

I enjoy those boxset cover comparison images SO much. XD
(I've never been a fan of that first orange brick cover art. Some look alright, but Season 1's always makes me cringe.)

DBox Vegeta looks classy. X3

Off topic but: I'm pretty pissed right now. Why didnt Funimation release Vol. 10 of UUE? They only released for Spanish.

Jesus Christ! What are those things above Vegeta's eyes? You can land a plane on his eyebrows. Neither of those Vegeta pics look that great. I don't care who drew them.

At least it's a good piece of artwork. It may look a little off style wise, but it's better than the shoddy quick traces we got in the Season Sets.

Would you prefer this Vegeta to be on Season set Image over Season 1 box art?

That's odd, one of them seems to be missing his pupils. Oh wait, no, there they are. Wow, to be cross-eyed that badly? I think the excruciating headaches are the real reason why Vegeta's so miffed all the time.

Seriously, I still can't fathom how that managed to get past quality control.

Also to link it to the topic, the fanboy in me would find it hilarious if for whatever reason that Vegeta art was the cover for the Cell Games. After all, it's all thanks to him, eh?

Set 1 had the first 147 episodes.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
