This is pretty dark for Dragon Ball....

Not all of us buy the US release.
Not all of us can afford to import.

Yes because God forbid should people read subtitles! It's really not that hard..

And once again, you ignore the fact that I have repeatedly stated that I prefer the Japanese version of the show! I have no problem reading subtitles, but some people don't feel that way.

On-topic:
I was just thinking of another scene, this one in DB. Whenever Muten Roshi attempts to seal Daimaio with the Mafuba. Once again, not particularly graphic, but he sees Piccolo completely unaffected by his Mafuba before he dies. So, he dies knowing that all his efforts were for naught. He died knowing that he gave his life for nothing, and that there might not be anyone left who can save the Earth.

I found a vid of it in youtube (in Japanese and everything  ):

I know you prefer the Japanese version, I'm referring to those dub fans who don't like having to read and would rather prefer an inaccurate version.

Speaking of dark, have the two gunmen from the Buu saga been mentioned yet? Two oddly "real" and dangerous characters, they take advantage of the chaos caused by Buu to drive shooting people. They shoot an old couple in the head, and the puppy, and several others, for the hell of it. Just because they can.

Now, true, the big villains have acted like this, but they're big scary villains, it's expected. To have the story incorporate two regular humans doing the same, on a small scale amid all the confusion, always seemed out of place to me.

I know what you mean. I actually watched those episodes about a week ago. Them shooting the old couple was really rough...

BUT, those two did spawn one of my favorite scenes in all of DBZ. When Hercule beats the living shit out of those two gunman

That was so incredible.

Yeah, I was watching that recently, too. They just showed the lady getting blasted in the head, and the man got show twice. But it was cool seeing Mr. Satan beating the shit out of someone, and then Buu brutally killed the other guy.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I do, hence my reference to the Japenese version as the subbed version.

I am turning 19 in a couple of weeks, and I like FUNimations dub. Hows that for your so-called "logic" (or lack thereof?)

I'm not here to mini-mod, mind you, but remarks like this one here are just plain rude IMO and completely go against the friendly shonen atmosphere that we as members try so hard to maintain. And I'm seeing more and more of it in this thread.

I'm kicking myself for not immediately thinking of that one. I do love that scene a great deal.

I think it definitely stands out, but I'd disagree that it's "out of place". I think it better fleshes out the universe that Dragon Ball is set in, showing that these little, more "down to earth" horrors still very much exist in this world, and that it's not all candy coated fantasy goodness. Its little elements like that that help contribute in keeping this series a bit further removed from "generic, fighting, syrupy adventure" shonen material, at least in various small ways.

THAT kind of shit is uncalled for. Maybe you (falseprophecy) didn't come in here to troll innitially (or maybe you did for all I know), but remarks like that only serve to prove jjgp right. That "nap time little dubbie" crack is a troll comment. Textbook. And it's not at all welcome in these parts.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I didn't mean out of place in the world exactly, just out of place in the story. As far as I can remember it's the first time something like that happens, other than the odd henchman leering over Bulma.
