Isn't it interesting that the whole universe can speak one single language that the Earth doesn't know about...?!

There's other languages? I thought the entire universe inexplicably only spoke English/Japanese/your-region-here! :P

Well, you have the Namekian language. Moori used it when talking to Freeza, but he said (In Viz):

" Please speak in a tongue that we understand, not Namekian. We know that you can speak our language."

Universal Japanese/English, my friends. So every single being that you see in Dragonball is an expert at foreign languages. Believable, on a monolithic scale.

The Namekians broke the Universal "English/Japanese Usage Only" law. So that's why they always get the shaft.

I'm still of the belief that everybody in the Dragon World gets a Babel Fish implanted in their ear at one point or another.

You know what?! There was an old anime called Uchuusen Sagittarius that was dubbed in Arabic years ago (one of my favorites).
According to the dub in one of the episodes, one of the members of an antagonist squad said that they use a translater implanted within their ears. Unlike the protagonists who used a portable translater that they broke it later for being usless and getting them to death sentence due to a cultural misunderstanding...!!

1986, it's possible they got the idea from Douglas Adams. But I doubt it. It's a pretty basic concept. I'm sure Hitchhikers Guide wasn't the first to use the implanted universal translator idea.

I always thought the scouters could translate. The thing can calculate numbers and pin-point locations, but can't translate a thing...ripoff. :?

But then nobody would be able to tell what anyone else was saying once Moori broke all the scouters.

The Namekian dragon could only be spoke to in Namekian, yet he could talk back to the summoner(s) in Japanese/your-translation.

In the original he is simply laughing, and not speaking at all. In the Funi dub, he is saying something in his native language.

Even though I'm a fan of the original,, I thought the "native language" add in was pretty cool!

I agree I think that was a moment were the dub utilize wasted audio and added something unique to bring home the fact that aliens was involved in the conflict.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

It's a little contradictiong, really. In the dub, Nameks try to trick Frieza by acting like they can only speak Namek, but Frieza goes "We know you can speak our tongue, as well." implying english is his main language.

Which apply Namekians are sort of natives of space. They seem to be pretty ancient since they have their own language.

Funi wouldn't have even been tempted to do that if Toei didn't give Frieza that unnatural weird ass laughing motion.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
