Which is better for introducing people: Kai or the Original?

So, let's say you have a friend who you want to get into Dragon Ball. Would you show them the original DBZ anime, or would you show them Kai? Which one would be a better starting point?

Neither. I'd pop in DragonBall; there is no other way to intro the series.

It's gotta be Kai. From my experiences of trying to get people into Dragon Ball I always find that the filler (or any kind of boring cut away from the action/plot bits) is a turn off for people trying to get into the show. They'll be all into Goku and Piccolo going at it with Raditz and it will cut away to Chi-Chi cooking and it while it may not tone down their interest completely, it certainly doesn't help. The only thing I don't like about Kai is the music. It's much better to watch season 1 with the original music than anything else. Z is a perfect place to get into the series though. If I'm trying to get people into the manga then I'll try and start them off with Dragon Ball. That is a must.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

While I personally think your are right, you'd be suprised how many people I know decided to stop because they were uncomfortable after the first time they saw young Goku's "boy toys".Li'l Lemmy wrote:Neither. I'd pop in DragonBall; there is no other way to intro the series.

Plus, The Z series is a lot more popular here in America(I dunno about other countries).

Well, from experience, back in March I showed my friend the first Dragon Ball in its entirety, and since at the time Kai was set to debut, we ended up watching that one until about episode 7 or so, when I noticed she began to lose interest. And this was Kai for Pete's sake, so I have no idea what to say now.
Seconded to the end of the universe. So many people are either put off entirely of misconstrue the charm of the Dragon Ball series when starting with Dragon Ball Z; the original really captures the spirit and surreality that is the Dragon Universe in a way that the two latter installments just never managed to achieve. Definitely the way to go.Li'l Lemmy wrote:Neither. I'd pop in DragonBall; there is no other way to intro the series.

If the very beginning of DragonBall puts them off, with its nudity and whatnot, maybe you could try starting them on the 22nd TB or the Piccolo arc? You'll still have issues with them starting mid-way into the story, but it shouldn't be quite as bad since you'll still be closer to the beginning then if you started with Raditz. If they like that, they can read the earlier volumes until they catch up.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Well, it depends on who the people are.
If they're fans of other anime and manga, I'd probably show them Kai (Japanese of course) or the manga.
If they're not fans of anime and manga, I'd wait for a dub of Kai. There's no way that my friends would watch Japanese anime, unfortunately. Hopefully it's dubbed a little better than DBZ was.
Unfortunately, I don't see much of a point of introducing anyone to DBZ now that Kai is out. I mean, without the filler, it would get them into the swing of things quicker.
