Who is still alive during the Goku Jr. Special?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Who is still alive during the Goku Jr. Special?

Post by Thanos » Mon Aug 03, 2009 2:59 am

Aside from Pan, obviously.

In my opinion...

Goku: I know his situation is subject to debate, but I have substantial reasoning to think that Goku is still alive... in some type of god-like form. First of all, he doesn't have a halo when he is at the tournament or when he talks to Goku Jr. Second, he's the fuckin' saviour of humanity many times over. Without him around, the Earth would be screwed. I'm sure Baba would grow tired of asking for favours for Goku to come back to Earth to clean up the mess. Also, the reason he's alive in the first place is because of Rou Kaioshin... he gave him his life force. Because of this, I'm guessing Goku would end up living forever, if not at the very least, millions of years.

Muten Roshi & Umigame: The reason Roshi isn't shown is likely because, my guess, is that he went back to living as a true hermit with Umigame. And, him and Pan didn't seem to have much of a relationship, so it would stand to reason that he wouldn't be hanging out with her and Goku Jr. I can't think of any reason he'd be dead.

Dende & Mister Popo: Living in the position as Kami, he'd likely live centuries, as the previous one did. As for Popo, he just seems to be the permanent Kami assistant.

Kaioshin: Obviously, being millions of years old, one hundred years would be a mere drop in the bucket.

Garlic Junior: Teehee.

Definite vote from me for the "Goku is alive during the special." thing.

I don't know; I kinda of want to say Vegeta, but with that new information from the Super Exciting Guide that gave more details on the lifespan, I think it could go either way. But if he is still alive by that point--with the rapid aging thing there's no way he'd be in condition to actually go into battle.

I guess if I sorta-include Vegeta, I'll sorta-include Tabaru too.

There was never anything mentioned about Gure's lifespan, so possibly her?

Android 18 - Do androids age? I always thought that she wasn't really any older in GT, she just styled herself to look like a middle-aged woman.

Sugoro and his son - Living on Kaioshin's planet, and nothing was ever mentioned about their life span.

Oob - I really don't know about this one, but would he even age? I mean, wouldn't him fusing with Mr. Boo have had enough of an effect on his life span to give him another hundred years?

Well, she is technically a human with robotic parts... so I'm gonna say she does indeed age.

Well, we don't really even know what Boo's lifespan would be. Boo's technically millions of years old, but he was only really active for a few years before being sealed away for all that time.

There was a conversation that Mike somewhat initiated about Muten Roshi’s extended lifespan because of all of his martial arts training. Therefore, if it possible for human to live that long because of extreme training I would say Vegeta was still around because he and Kakarrot have endured far more than Roshi. Nevertheless, I would like to hope that if he did in fact die it was in one last glorious battle.

Goku - Well duh, we saw him in the special with our own eyes, and there was no halo. I wouldn't be surprised if Goku's downright immortal somehow by this point.

Android 18 - Being an Android evidently grants you eternal life in some cases. 18 is still based on a human body, though. However, Gero's enhancements may very well keep her alive (she certainly seems unchanged in GT). I feel sorry for her if she is around, though, as Kuririn would most definitely have passed on by then.

Uub - Who knows what kind of side effects merging with Buu might have granted him. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still alive and kickin'.

Dende - Even if he weren't Earth's god, Namekians live a LONG time. Dende's probably not even hit his mid-life crisis yet. Mr. Popo's no doubt still around too.

Goku Jr: "Now that I have collected all of se7en Dragonballs, let's resurrect everyone in connection with my great-great-grandfather Son Goku. *ahem* Come forth, Shen Long!"

*Boom*

Shen Long: "Why have thy distrubed my slumber party?"

Goku Jr: "Sorry! I have a wish that needs to be granted!"

Shen Long: " What is it?"

Goku Jr: "Please resurrect Son Goku's family and his friends including Vegeta's human family."

Shen Long: " *groans* That resurrection again!? Don't you think I have grown tired of granting that crap again?!"

Goku Jr: Please! It's very important! Please, for me? It will be your last time granting the wish regarding the resurrection."

Shen Long: "I don't know... It has been many years since they passed away..."

Goku Jr: " *bow down* Please! *crying* I just wanna see them!

Goku: "Shen Long! Just grant my grandson's wish, please."

Shen Long: "Son Goku... Alright. I have granted thy wish. Now what is thy second wish?"

Goku Jr: Please have all of my family and Vegeta and his family be immortally young!

Shen Long: " That is simple matter. Fare the well!"

I have some more:

Android 16 - I've always thought the he was resurrected by the Shenron wishes after the Cell Games. Being entirely mechanic, I'm sure he would have lived this long.

Arale - I see no reason to think that she would've died.

Obotchman - Arale's also robotic companion.

Baba - If Roshi is alive, then I think she is as well.

Karin - I don't think he really ages much throughout the series, does he?

They wished back everyone who Cell killed, not everything that he destroyed.

No, he died in his rocking-chair muttering "Kakarrot..." and pissing in his pants.

This is canon.

Toriyama said in Daizenshuu 4 that Vegeta would probably die the soonest out of all the main characters, due to his high blood pressure.

Says you, robo-racist.

It's questionable whether Goku is dead or alive at the end of GT. He seems to be more of an incorporeal...thingy.

Incorporeal, he makes physical contact with Goku Jr. and can be seen by Pan leaning on a Budokai arena rail. He wasn't exactly like Spike in Angel Season 5.

I meant to imply that I considered him some kind of spirit thingy, beyond the scope of normal life and death. Ascended, you might say. Obviously I don't think he was incapable of interacting with people and things in the living world, since we see him do it.

I guess I'm saying I saw him as becoming a kind of angel, or guardian spirit.

I think Goku died at the hands of Yi Xing Long, but was not sent to the afterlife because of the disruption to the cosmic forces caused by the Dragon Balls' breakdown. We see the effects of it in the Super 17 Arc, where Enma is shown being unable to control the chaos in Hell. While, at the time, this seemed to be the doing of Gero and Mu, Shenlong explains in the last episode that the Dragon Balls' imbalance made it possible.

Why Goku was taken by Shenlong instead of going to the afterlife, I cannot say, but I think it had something to do with him saving the asses of everyone in the universe multiple times. Maybe this was his reward for a life of rather... extreme service to the cause of good. Either way, I think the epilogue and the TV special make it clear that Goku is both more than he was in life and more than he normally would be in death.
To a strong man, the end justifies the means. To a stronger man, the means justify the end.

Probably more from his angry nature. Vegeta's like the Hank Hill of Dragon Ball.
