Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

What Bardock special were you watching? Bardock was white as hell. We never even see a dark skinned saiyajin in the entire run of the show leading me to believe they don't exist.

Goku's skin got darker in GT, and only in GT because they wanted to "update" everyone's image even if it meant Goku becoming tan and Vegeta having a mustache, both these things are ridiculous but happened anyway.

I don't see his skin being dark at all in that Buu saga pic

Don`t know if this one is official but it clearly shows the difference:

Point taken, I wouldn't call that "practically black" though.

I wouldn't even call the Goku in the GT special "practically black" either to be honest.

If I recalled right, that image is from one of the Daizenshuu books.

Daizenshuu 6 to be exact. Here's a better scan, if you want to grab it.

Neptune Mister, I Have Proven You Wrong. My Plans Came To Fruition! Mwahaha!

But once again I say, I didn't see any problem with Son being dark-skinned. He looked "cool" to a certain degree. And what makes you so sure that dark-skinned Saiya-Jin don't exist, at all?

Well, Bardock is definately tanned in every incarnation you find him in. Games, that scan, or his special.

And Goku doesn't look bad in GT, that stupid picture has his and Goku Jr.'s eyes in the wrong area of the cornea... the corner.

Son Goku Sr. and Jr. look rather shiny. The animation looks really strange. Anyone know where it's from? Is that even an official image?

I think it boils down to artistic choices. Perhaps American cartoons aren't the best comparison, but look at Superman's animated series from the '90s. He has a definite tan due to the style of shading they used - yet, gone in Justice League. A similar thing happened to Batman, but not to quite the extent as Superman. Both in the same canon, mind you. So, yeah... I personally don't think this is really all that discussion-worthy, but that may just be me.

Pardon if the images are big, but I didn't think so. It's a shame this forum has no spoiler tags.

PS - Don't even get me started on Luthor.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I never said there was anything wrong with it.

I'm just wondering why it is so. Maybe if he had always been dark-skinned, but for him to suddenly start getting dark by the end of DBZ, seems strange.

Now, on the subject of dark-skinned Saiyajin...

But the thing that gets me is this: Now I can see how this can be either a mistake or just an artistic style change, but that skin-tone is used for every promotion which features GT Goku. Games, posters, action figures, the 10th Anniversary Special. All of which keep GT Son Goku with this same skin-tone. This leads me to believe that there was a reason behind this color change.

Not in my book skippy, and I say that because we never see any black saiyajins...ever. Groups of Saiyajins were shown many times in flashbacks and I never saw a black one. You'd think we'd at least see one if they existed.

(Then again maybe it's better we didn't, he'd probably look like a sambo thanks to Japan and it's awesome cultural sensitivity/sarcasm)

Well Paragus looked Mexican and Tulluce was grey, so what makes you think that the Saiya-Jin are only limited to one color? Do they even have race?

Yeah their race is saiyajin.

Paragus looked tan, not Mexican. I'll give you saiyajins can tan how about that?

He just wanted to show how hot he was to females, like Chi-Chi said in the begining of DBGT. Plus a child.

Its only in GT that we start to really see a change in skin tone, so maybe its just based on how they colored him. I mean the art style was a very different with GT.The tan theory was fun so lets just go with that and cut GT some slack this time.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
