No, it wasn't first used in episode 81 of Dragonball-- It was used much earlier.SSj_Rambo wrote:Man, I've gone over mine and why I like it so many times, I really need to just find my last post on it and just copy it here.![]()
Anyway, it's the choral piece that is most famous for its use during Piccolo's death at the hands of Nappa; but it was first used in Dragonball episode 081, then in Dragonball Movie 2, during Piccolo's death, then a few times in the Freeza Arc (when Vegeta was killed, when Planet Vegeta was destroyed, when Kuririn was gored by Freeza, and I think one or two more times). There's a big pattern in its usages between demons (for the most part), but it's probably just coincidence. Here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNqoQTi963U
I am not positive of the EXACT episode number (it was definitely in the early 20's), but it was used during one of the 21st Budokai episodes, right when Goku was beginning the semi-final rounds. I'm sure of it. After that, I don't remember the tune being used again until the example you mentioned, and during the Tenshinhan fight when he was about to blow up the ring with the kikohou.

I have to agree there. I tend to listen to the instrumental version more, though.Rory wrote:Shit, good question.
I always seem to change, I'm very fond on Marugoto, but I looove Kiseki no Hono Moeagre.
But there's so many others! It's hard to pick, but I think Kiseski wins, because it's got an orchestral backing, and that's always awesome.

I don't have one, so I'll name off a couple of mine:
DAN DAN Kokoro Hikareteku is high up there since it's spirit really sums up all the greatness of Dragon Ball.
Unemei no Hi Tamashi tai Tamashi is goes from a harmonious, calm melody, before boiling up to an explosive tune that just epitomizes Gohan's sudden transformation.
Cha La is a staple and is always amazing.
Bokutachi wa Tenshi Datte is also really good. It's just got this reminiscing quality to it. Perfect ending theme.
And recently really been digging Blue Velvet as well. Good stuffs.
Oh...and Muteki AURA no ENERGY is a pretty good one. Really got into that song. Wish it were used somewhere :p

I love the American "Mystical Adventure" version. I like the original, but I believe the FUNimation version is superior and I had a long chat about that one in the chat room
. I really like Cha-la, but I'm not a fan of We Gotta Power. I also don't like the Kai intro music. My favorite background music is from Dragon Ball. One of my favorite tracks from the Great Complete Collection is Koroshiya "Tao Paipai"/The Assassin "Tao Pai-Pai". I'd love to order this collection one day.
Dragon Ball has some great music, but it's far from my favorite in Anime. My absolute favorite intro song is from Cromartie High School. And I LOOOOOVE the first One Piece intro.

Mine's Ore wa Tokoton Tomaranai. Just how unbelievably upbeat and DB-like it is combined with the fact I've heard the instrumental millions upon millions of times (B3's my favorite game, what can I say), makes it always and forever my favorite DB song.
Runners up are Dan Dan, Unmei no Hi, and Boku Tachi wa Tenshi Datta.

Mystical Adventure, no contest. Captures every damn aspect of this series so freaking well. I need to get around to giving POWER OF DREAMER a listen...
(Blue Velvet and WE GOTTA POWER come in pretty close, though.)

After listening to Ore wa Tokoton Tomaranai, Super Survivor and Kiseki no Hono Yo Moeagare a million times today to celebrate me finally getting the Budokai 3 CD single, those three songs are officially my favorite Kageyama songs.
Oh, and Head Cha La ain't to bad, either.

Just kidding!
Most people prefer music from Z, supposedly it's not as childish or whatever (apart from the Gohan insert songs).
Even so, in my opinion, Dragonball also takes the prize as far as music is concerned.

My favourite songs have to be Kiseki no Honôyo Moeagare, Hikari no Tabi, and Hero (Kima ga Hero). I'm actually really fond of the song Spacepeople DBZ because it's pretty techno.
Just another Dragon Ball fangirl in the world.

Man... I don't really have a favorite song ever.
Although I prefer Faulconer's score over Kikuchi's, I still have a soft spot for Kikuchi's score. (I'm actually a dubbie. Surpriiiise!
) I'm also very fond of "Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku". Oh, and I love the original Dragon Ball theme a lot, too... and "Rock The Dragon". I grew up with the FUNi dub of Dragon Ball Z, but even so, I headed into the Japanese version a bit after watching Meri's awesomely hilarious "All Purpose DBZ Music Video" when I was 9, thanks to my friends (one of them being on this very forum) showing it to me. And yeah, even I believed that OMG JAPANIS DEEBEEZEE IS H4RDKAWR!!1!11!1 after watching the part with "One Step Closer" playing in the background. After that, I left the original alone for a while. Once GT started airing in America, I watched it all the time. I actually despised Mark Menza's score, as well as how long it took to wait for the episodes to air on Toonami... so I decided to shift to the Japanese version of GT, and... I fell in love with it. All this, when I was 10. (I just happened to have spoiled Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT for myself by watching millions of AMVs back in the day.) To this day, the only Anime show I'd be willing to watch in Japanese with English subtitles is, believe or not, Dragon Ball GT. The Dragon Ball theme is just something I've always loved listening to, since it was just... mystical, I guess. (For the record, G.I.P. PRETY CALORES.
) "Rock The Dragon" just grew on to me so much to the point where I don't think it's even a "so bad, it's good" situation. Just a little story of mine.
But anyway, I conclude by saying that I enjoy both the Faulconer and the Kikuchi scores very much, "Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku", the original Dragon Ball theme, "Rock The Dragon"... and the Ocean Dub's score juuuust a bit.
It's those darned kids these days. Wouldn't know a good song if it ripped their ear off and made them dance for it.The Time Traveller wrote:The other day I tried watching Dragon Ball downstairs and my little brother instantly says "How can you LISTEN to that [Makafushigi Adventure]" and I told him that people love Dragon Ball's music, and he didn't believe me.
When the FUNimation dub of One Piece started airing, my little brother said he actually PREFERED the 4Kids rap over the English-dubbed English Opening(Towards the Light).
