What is your canon policy? Do you have one?
The title really says it all. What do you think represents "true" Dragon Ball? What is your opinion on filler, GT, the movies, the TV specials, the original illustrated stories, the guidebooks, and all the other extraneous crap we seem to love so much? Do you have a canon policy at all? If not, then how do you debate, or do you?
Me? My canon consists of the manga in its Kanzenban form and the Burdock TV special. The latter is included due to its events being explicitly referenced in the manga after its production (meaning the TV special existed, then was referenced in the manga, not the other way around). This is, in my opinion, true, unadulterated Dragon Ball, and is the ultimate word in any debate.

To a strong man, the end justifies the means. To a stronger man, the means justify the end.
I consider the original manga and anything Toriyama clearly and explicitly states to be the primary canon. Anime filler is the source of a great deal of Dragonball's most egregious plot holes so I tend to dismiss it as extraneous, even the stuff that Toriyama may or may not have had a hand in.
I don't think all filler is bad, but 85% of it is an eyesore to me.

That's pretty much what I consider canon (even though Toriyama probably doesn't give a rat's ass) I also consider the Bardock special and the Jump Special to be canonA-dono wrote:I consider the original manga and anything Toriyama clearly and explicitly states to be the primary canon. Well, my thing is pretty simple.
If it ain't in the manga or Trunks/Bardock specials, it ain't canon. That and the Daizenshuu. Everything else is filler.

Hi, I'm WeeklyTubeShow. Innagadadavida and I like to make videos.

The manga itself is my "primary canon."
Everything else, like the anime, movies, guidebooks, and so on, fall into one big general "secondary canon."
The Bardock special is somewhere in-between.

Do they? Huh. You're gonna have to remind me how they're at odds. I honestly can't remember.Amigo Ten wrote:But... The manga and the Trunks special conflict...Remix wrote:Well, my thing is pretty simple.

There's only one major difference. In the anime special, Trunks first goes Super Saiyan after Gohan is killed. In the "Trunks Story" special chapter of the manga, Trunks is already a Super Saiyan at the beginning of the story.Remix wrote:Do they? Huh. You're gonna have to remind me how they're at odds. Trunks is shown as a Super Saiyan before Gohan dies in the manga, whereas in the special he achieves it for the first time up discovering Gohan's body.Remix wrote:Do they? Huh. The only thing I don't consider canon are the some of the movies, only because they're impossible to ignore and impossible to just give a pass as fitting with the story.
Like with the Janenba movie... Vegeta is dead? What!? You're telling me Boo was taking a break while that shit went down?
Although, I'm unhappy with some portions of the filler. For instance, without the filler, there's a chance Ginew would still be alive.
Maybe King Cold too, because I had this fantasy about him escaping and getting healed, like Freeza and Coola did. Those two were much worse off than King Cold, yet he dies... bullshit!
