Anyone remember those old Cartoon Network DBZ games?

Post by WhatTheDarn » Thu Aug 20, 2009 2:16 am

I hope these haven't been discussed somewhere on this board, but I couldn't find anything in the search results, so:

I was feeling nostalgic recently, and I remembered two games Cartoon Network had on its website during the height of dub popularity. They're gone now, but I dug them up on other sites.

Mission to Namek:
http://www.gamepilot.com/game/dragon+ba ... namek.html

This one is actually still a pretty fun strategy game, even with the plot holes.

Dragon Ball Z Tournament:
http://www.arcadestreet.com/dragon-ball ... nament.htm

That one... is not. It's just tedious, not at all like I remember. Also, make sure you turn your volume down between battles.

So? Ring any bells? If nothing else, they're an interesting little look at an era gone by.

Yeah, I played those back in junior high. I always thought it was odd that Trunks was playable in a Namek game.

Is there a way to install Shockwave onto Firefox?

Mission to Namek is so incredibly easy once you learn the secret to the game.

Hint: Train everyone in all five moves before doing any fighting.

I love how in "Mission to Namek" they use the dub names for everything but then turn around and use "Renzuko [sic] Energy Dan" (aka Rapid-Fire Energy Blast).

Oh, and is it just me or does Captain Ginyu have a really drooping face, like a bloodhound?

We Gotta Power instrumental FTW.

In that they used it, not in its quality.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I never played them but I remember one being shown on Cartoon Network back in the mid 90's, always got a strange sensation when I watched them because it looked so fast paced and fun.

But now with the Budokai games I'm like, what the **** was I thinking.

Oh, I see.
I was expecting a more full version, not just the first few notes. :P
