Does watching this give you new appreciation for Funi's dub?

Wow.. I don't think in all my uears I've seen an "official" dub this terrible (heck, I've seen better fandubs..). I love how this kid is falling to his doom, and the guy (with a completely unfitting voice might I add) is barely putting out more than a monotone "ahhhh..".
Even as I kid, I'd call bullshit on that.
No, the Dragonball dub still sucks, and a shittier dub doesn't change that fact.

I know! He is just some random 20-30 year old voicing some 10 year old kid, and he isn't even trying to sound that young! Hell, he isn't even trying to do anything!!

I love how his voice breaks towards the end!

I mean, shit... I have zero interest in watching... nevermind applauding... FUNimation's English dub of the series... but... this just really serves no purpose what-so-ever, does it...?
But what about Dragonball (not Z)? It keeps the original score, and is a great dub. I sometimes watch it. I think you'd enjoy it.
I was watching a Dragon Ball episode of the Piccolo (the old one) saga, and it was Yajirobe talking to Goku. Flicked the audo over to the dub for shits 'n giggles. It was this scene that's started to make me think they record their dialogue sentence by sentence and then splice it all together unnaturally after so it matches the mouth flaps. It was really hard to listen to.
But at least they CAN act. The voice actors do put effort in. Unlike... whatever that was I just watched.

And their Z dub has the original score now. And it improves it considerably.

Yes, actually. If the FUNi dub were this bad I probably never would have gotten into Dragon Ball (or I'd be into it, but for all the wrong reasons).

I think this Ocean version of Gohan saying goodbye to Goku and the Kais in otherworld make me appreciate the FUNI dub so much more.

This concept of "appreciation" puzzles me. Why are you doing this? What was the plan here? Everyone sees these admittedly worse clips and we all suddenly begin to hold hands and discuss how wonderful Eric Vale is?

Hate to have to go to this level, since most people will ignore the upcoming analogy and focus on the literal, but if I'm raped, and my Jewish psychiatrist tells me stories his great-grandafather told him about his experiences in the Holocaust, am I supposed to "appreciate" the fact that my privacy, my rights as a human being, and my asshole had been violated?

To sum it up: Bad is bad. Showing me something worse doesn't make it less bad. It reassures me I'm not the only one getting screwed and God hasn't singled me out or anything, but guess what? I still got screwed.

That about sums up my initial pots from before. What's the point?

Luckily this dub only lasted for 26 episodes before the dubbing company was fired and replaced by a better dub but here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcINhIjAxUA

When you see terrible dubs like that from any anime, does it make you appreciate Funimation more or is it still the same?
Woah! You came ahead of me. I was actually going to post the dreaded Finnish Digimon dub. For all the love there is to the dub, the one critical thing they've done wrong is beefing the entire series up making Piccolo sound as if he has smoked a thousand cigars and making Freezer sound like my grandmother had she smoked a entire packet of hash.
The "Rock the Dragon" song is horrible. The danish version of Dragon Ball Z had the decency to find a VA that sounded like Ryusei Nakao.

But looking away from all the knitpicking then it was after all Funanimation that bough the series to the west.

The answer is no, they both suck and should be eradicated from existence.
I think the "shit theory" really sums it all up.

Not to start a dub debate, but that was only really when Sabat was starting out. His Piccolo voice now is pretty much a deeper version of his speaking voice, similar to the one he uses for Zoro from One Piece.

I agree about Linda Young's Frieza though!

You don't think VegettoEX watched DB dub before, do you? He publicly stated over and over that he hates Funi's dub. That's all there is to it.

He doesn't hate it. It's just he stated that if their is the original show in format you can understand, why watch a rewrite of that show?
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I honestly can't bring my self to finish most English dubs for modern anime any more, either because the shows themselves are, in any language, just objectively bad or because the cast choices are bland. It's always Johnny Yong Bosch and Crispin Freeman over and over again and the translations are so wooden and way too literal, which probably has a lot to do with the fact that dub scripts nowadays are now written by translators rather than, you know... actual writers.

Edit: I could be totally wrong by the way, dubs might still have people in the form of punch up writers. But after watching Streamline's dub of the Fist of the North Star movie, then watching ADV's dub of New Fist of the North Star, yeah, I highly doubt it.

..... Let's just say no and leave it at that. Whatever his normal speaking voice is, it sure as hell ain't Piccolo.

While seeing the video was pretty hilareous, this is a really terrible topic and it's just gonna keep going sour like this until it's locked.

Okay, honestly, there was NO excuse for the way T.K. sounded in that dub. NONE! T.K. is a freaking kid! At the very least, the actor has to try and sound like a kid. Hell, even most English dubs of anime have the VAs even trying to sound kiddish even if they are in their late 20's.

Oh, and the DBZ dub is.

Well besides the dub being just about tolerable allow me to show you a dub or should I say a opening of even more heinous nature than the finnish Digimon one:

The german Naruto
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8xoTBZrzko

After watching such a dreadful opening I can now start to appreciate
"Rock The Dragon"....

Oh jeez that Digimon dub was horrible, did they drag random people of the street to just make noise?
