Why is the footage a little zoomed in? Is it another one of Funi's fuck-ups?
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

That means absolutely nothing to me. It looks better, that's all that matters.JulieYBM wrote:Ever think they're aren't supposed to look clean?jjgp1112 wrote:The Season Sets actually look better. While I would say they do look "cleaner," or with the appearance of less grain, I prefer the color of the Dragon Box clips. The DBox color is much better in the darker hues used in the series, as evidenced by Oolong's Communist outfit (haha) in the first example.
I wonder how the DVNR will look on some darker colored scenes (any screen shots would be great)? All in all, it seems FUNi is getting better at this. I'm wary to purchase these if they come out with Dragon Box sets for Dragon Ball. Plus, I'm getting into One Piece and am buying those sets already.

Looks to be about 5, which also matches the episode count of the two seasons that have been announced so far. Of course, if we had the original image that they form like we did with Dragonball Z, it would be easier. Nonetheless, I suspect a total of 5. The episodes would beLeprikanGT wrote: By the spine picture we see in that video; can anyone tell how many seasons DB will be?
Season 1: 1-31
Season 2: 32-67
Season 3: 68-101
Season 4: 102-125(ish)
Season 5: 126(ish)-153.
This would balance them out pretty well. The only issue is that the Daimao and Junior sagas, while forming 51 episodes, do so in a somewhat annoying way, so either the sets cut off around 25-26 episodes each, or the Daimao set gets only 20 episodes (which is the entirety of the saga). Of course, this is all assuming Funimation is going to keep the sagas together, which it probably won't given that Season 1 goes into the Red Ribbon Army stuff a little.
All the same, I still think 5 is an accurate count.

I am amazed at how well they turned out compared to the Z and GT sets. The former of which (for most of the series) was DVNR'd to death, while the latter looked a bit too "smooth" compared to the Dragon Boxes. Here they appear clean, sharp and natural...
I like these much better than the Dragon Boxes, and I cannot wait to procure myself a copy of this set. Only issue seems to be some slight zoomage and the colors seem a bit more faded than the Dragon Boxes.

How do you define 'better'? Because to me it looks like the colors are flattened and their detail lost. Essentially, it almost looks as plain as modern digital coloring.jjgp1112 wrote:That means absolutely nothing to me. The original Dragon Ball isn't 'modern'.
Again, how it originally looked means absolutely nothing to me.JulieYBM wrote:How do you define 'better'? Because to me it looks like the colors are flattened and their detail lost. Another thing I noticed about the Dragon Box image, is that(on the first and third comparisons anyway) it is so zoomed out that you can see the edges of the film on the corners... That makes me thankful that the Season Sets are zoomed in a bit.
The show was framed within a safe zone anyway so you aren't losing anything that was intended to be viewed anyway.

I agree that the Season Sets look cleaner in this particular instance, but two things in particular bother me:
1. Those Dragon Box shots are absolutely shit. Like... they look like they suffer from a lot more issues than film grain--the image quality is rather poor, and some of the frames aren't even the same between the two.
2. The season sets are more zoomed in than the Dragon Box, which means you lose a bit of footage around the outside. I actually think it'd be easier to clean with the extra footage, actually--then the lines would be cleaner. Then again, it's possible that it's zoomed in so the lines appear larger and therefore suffer less damage...
I'd like to see some proper comparisons, honestly. Other than that, I do believe the season sets appear to be less grainy and have more pleasing color contrast. Disagree all you want, of course, but I'm pretty sure Kei had a point when he said that the Dragon Box masters aren't as clean looking as the series could possibly be; this is at least a respectable attempt at having them look more like what I believe is--if not more like the original--more aesthetically pleasing. You know, not at all like the Dragon Ball Z season sets, which sucked ass.

It appears the R2 caps weren't successfully changed in resolution properly, which is leading to a few issues.
