Immortality Thoughts
Out of all the DBZ attemps for a villain to get a wish off the dragon, the one villian that suceeds may not actually exist... I'm talking, of course, about Garlic Jr. He gets his immortality in movie 1, so obviously he can't die. But could he still suffer near-fatal injuries? Like amputations? Could he get sliced in half, much like Frieza, with a Destructo Disk? Or anything else? It's a puzzling thought.
Because Kaio-Ken just doesn't cut it anymore.

Well, we know he can suffer fatal injuries (since Gohan rammed through him head-first in the filler that occurs between Freeza's death and Trunks' arrival), as for decapitation though...I'd say yes. Though, whether he'd just be a head or the damage would be undone (ala the 'Interview with the Vampire' take on immortality, and how they literally couldn't change from the state they were in when they were turned) is up to you.

He gets a hole through him? I don't remember that. I really have to see DBZ again.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Well, we know he can suffer fatal injuries (since Gohan rammed through him head-first in the filler that occurs between Freeza's death and Trunks' arrival), as for decapitation though...I'd say yes. Can Shenron even grant immortality? Ignoring filler, we never see a successful case where it's been granted. Since Shenron can't grant wishes that exceed his maker's power, wouldn't a blast that hit the immortal kill him if it were strong enough to kill Kami?

well using the case of Garlic Jr we know he can still live through intense and unending pain, even if he WISHES he was dead, so I'd say yeah you could cut his head off and he'd just be a talking Guldo style head that just lived past the otherwise fatal injury. He'd need it sewn back on or something.
As for wether or not it could actually work, its not wether or not attacks can kill Kami can kill you, its wether or not Kami has the power to make someone immortal or not. Wether or not that is so isn't ever truly said so, who knows.

That was always my take on it. You can age all day long but you're never going to die from it, but that doesn't mean you couldn't be shot or something. But a popular definition for immortal seems to be "not subject to death."*PINHEAD* wrote:Remember, Kame-sennin supposedly had immortality, but he died. Maybe immortality in DB immunes you from natural death, but if you're decapitated...it's up to you.

Well, Kame-sennin doesn't seem to have aged much at all since we first met him in DB. I think being immortal in DB means becoming a bit of an elf. You won't age anymore, and aren't suspectible to any natural death causes.
But I doubt that asking to be immortal also makes you invulnerable. Although, one could wonder if you'd ask the dragon. "I want to be invulnerable AND immortal" if it would count as one or two wishes? XD

Couldn't you just wish it so that you were immune to any and all causes of death? ^_^; Specifics are good. XD That'd make you so you couldn't be killed and you wouldn't die of any natural causes either... right? :3Pedro The Hutt wrote:But I doubt that asking to be immortal also makes you invulnerable. More like the Hydra-lander Syndrome.Mike D wrote:So, does that man he would grow another head if it got decapitated and/or grow another body on his head. This would result in two giant Garlic Jrs. I call it:

Roshi's more of an Eternal Youth (or Eternal This Age for Ever) thing. I've never agreed with the Garlic Jr. take on Imortality. Damage should stay damage. Losing your head would make you just a head, etc... Regenerative abilities shouldn't be included.
And there is a way to make that in one wish. "I want you to make me an invalnerable immortal!" and there you go. It's 2 for the price of 1. It's all in the wording. ^^
P.S. Deus, where'd you get the new avatar? ^_^
