Yoshito Usui (the creator of Crayon Shinchan)
This may sound totally unrelated to Dragon Ball but in honor of the late Yoshito Usui, I've decided to show you guys a little something from the ever-so-classic manga "Crayon Shinchan". I was looking all over for this but never realized that it was actually in the very first volume. (Hint: Look at the very bottom left-hand corner.)

The world is your's.
The US voice was good for sounding similar to the original Japanese voice. Shinchan's Japanese voice is classic. I coulda sworn there were other times in the manga where Shinchan takes out the Frieza mask. It's been a long time since I read any Shinchan manga. Don't even remember where I left off. So I've decided to read it all over again.

I remember Misae transforming into Super Saiya Ka-chan (Super Saiyan Momsy) in the anime. There are many more DB parodies in Shin-chan I think.
By the way, I was really dissapointed and felt sorry for Yoshito Usui when I heard he'd passed away in an accident at where I come from. May he rest in peace.

Thanks! I went to try and piece together a general idea of the dialog and noticed it was Chinese instead of Japanese. I was like, "What. Chinese? I can't read this!"Kibosuru412 wrote:Shin chan says "huu huu. This kind of power can never defeat me"

Very funny!
Oh, and I heard about his death after his body was first found but only heard from one of my Japanese friends today exactly what happened. As sad as it is, I was relieved that it was some sort of accident and that he wasn't found murdered or something.

Note that there's a little "Copyright Akira Toriyama" note under the panel with the Freeza mask.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

There was a panel in that very first volume of Crayon Shinchan where Misae (Shinchan's mom) said something like "You better do as I say before I lose my rationale". Her hair was flaring upwards like a Super Saiyan as well. I had such a fun time reading the Shinchan comics over the years. This, just like Dragonball, was one of the first manga's I've read as I began to learn (how to read) Chinese. I think Shinchan kept me totally off-guard as I had no idea what it was when I read it for the first time back in the early 90s.

Lol. Me too. Dragonball taught me most of the Chinese characters I know today and the rest were from other comics. Now if I could only do the same with Japanese. Hmmm...

Dragonball (and most of the other manga I've read in my teenage years) taught me most of the Chinese text I know today. In fact, I'm even good enough to work on a couple of official Jackie Chan DVDs. (No joke! I was the official translator for the special features including audio commentary on the Hong Kong DVD release of "Rob-B-Hood" and "The Myth".) If parents say that reading manga is a bad influence on the primitive mind, they should think again. And being Chinese myself, I hear that a lot from Chinese parents.Kibosuru412 wrote:Lol. Me too. Oh, and it just occurred to me that the "hoo..hoo.." bit from Shinchan is a parody on the way Frieza speaks.
