Linkin Park/Papa Roach/Kid Rock did the theme song.

After the Saiyan arc, I thought they'd go into space to fight MORE SAIYANS! And I was anticipating that...

I used to believe that Chaozu was an enchanted mannequin, and we see him get made in Dragon Ball.

I used to also believe Dragon Ball Z was animated by the same people who did Pokemon, because they were the only anime shows I knew of at the time, so they HAD to be by the same people, right?

Oh yeah, and the symbol for Kame 亀, I used to think it was a made up Chinese character that looks like a Z...

- I thought Vegetto and Gogeta were also two survivors of planet Vegeta... and I wondered how they'd fit into the storyline (two of them being completely new characters, not fusions)
- After Goku turned Super Saiyajin, I thought he couldn't revert back. I was so relieved when he turned back to normal.
- When seeing pictures of the Buu arc, I thought Goten was a clone of Goku!
- Thanks to that same picture, I was certain that #18 wouldn't be absorbed by Cell. I was quite surprised when she was.

Here's what I can remember from the old days:

I knew that Goku got hair-related transformations. When I saw some footages from the 21 Tenkaichi Budikai of Kuririn and Jackie Chun, I thought Kuririn was Goku and he used a transformation made him bald!

In a related memory, I thought Goku learns how to turn his hair yellow from Lunch!

I thought Freeza was a female when I heard his dub voice for the first time in Budokai 2. I... was confused

I thought the Boos were different beings from each other.

I thought Kuririn and Yajirobe were related. They had the same expressions and the same voice even in the Arabic dub.

When Super Saiyan was first introduced, I thought that it had some sort of time limit, like...well, Super Sonic. I suppose it does really, the time limit being stamina. I also thought that he wouldn't be able to do it at will, though, and that it would only happen in times of extreme rage like the first time.

I don't know why I thought that, since it's common to gain control over uncontrollable things like that in anime. Maybe I thought it was like the Incredible Hulk transformation or something...

First, things I believed without being fed misinformation:

I was confused about Freeza's gender, completely because of the voice. That actually got me to pay attention to the dialogue to try and figure it out... I think it took multiple episodes.
Until being told otherwise, I just assumed Vegeta would fade into almost-obscurity after Namek. To the extent that in the first fanfiction I made, when having the OCs talking about the strength of the previous villain (that was invented just so they could have access to a scouter), I had Krillin arrive and say somewhat dismissively, "I mean, even Vegeta was stronger than <villainname>.".
I thought Vegetto was a completely separate character that existed along side Goku and Vegeta, and was like, from space, possibly a future villain. This also manifested in said first attempt at fanfiction, while a couple of OCs are watching the previous villain fleeing on his own scouter, one of them quips "Where is he going, to see Vegeto?"
And I spelled them "Vicheeta" and "Vicheeto". I think. Those double 'e's might have been an i, I'm not sure...
When I first started watching on Toonami, the way the narration and the episode contents went together had me believing that Nappa's name was Vegeta for... um... probably less than a week...
I believed that getting sent to another dimension and death were separate things. So when Vegeta killed Jheese, the explosion looked to me like the one when the Saibaman kamikaze'd Yamcha, so my conclusion was that he was another dimension'd. My dad insisted otherwise, and when the complete Ginyu Force (sans Ginyu himself) showed up in the afterlife, and Dende and Vegeta started dying, I started to catch on.
The plot I expected for the Androuningen, upon learning of the existence of Trunks(from a poster that came with a game that I got during season3 on Toonami) and SSJ Vegeta(From a card of some kind that my dad got from I'm not even sure where...) went: "First android puts up a fight. Vegeta transforms and destroys it. Eventually "Gohan goes Super Saiyan and blows up the other".". I mean, I guess that's kinda what happened, but I was decidedly expecting it to be a lot shorter... and less complicated...
Both my father and I were confused on the distinction between Tapion and the Kaioshin after reading Pojo's magazine and playing Super Butoden3.
I'm not sure that this counts, but Pojo's description of Goten had me expecting to be annoyed by the character. Then I heard Kara Edwards's performance and Goten very quickly became my favorite character. (I don't do favorites all that often. ).
I was expecting Piccolo and Nail's fusion to not be permanent, and that Nail and Dende would hang out on Namek for the rest of their lives. Heh... heh....... heh?
Well, not mine, but my dad seemed to think Goten was Gohan's son when figures and such started showing up long before the character. He also kept expecting saiyans to show up whenever ambiguous characters would pop up; for instance, the Ginyu Force in the afterlife; when the first glimpses appeared on screen, he says "It's the saiyans!". And I think he concluded that the likes of #13, #14 and #15 were saiyan in origin when we encountered merchandise in EPCOT. (And wouldn't let me get the powerball Gohan they had 'cause it was $13. ^_^ )

I... can't think of much else right now, I guess.

Things other people fed me that were false?

Vegeta would have a son named Yohan. I saw this playing out as Vegeta spontaneously returning to the Earth with a son (who was evil) and being all DB Ninja-ish.
Buu resurrected Hitler's army.
Vegeto was Vegeta and Piccolo fused.
Cell was "Freeza combined with one of Dr. Wheelo's cells".
Vegeto's power kept rising until reaching SSJ7, at which point he'd explode.

I think there's more, but time is scarce. XD

I started with the Cell Games, so I did my best to figure out what was going on, but it didn't always turn out so well. I thought...

Trunks & Bulma were married. (I didn't know about time travel and I assumed baby Trunks was Trunks' son)

Goku & Gohan always had blond hair.

Deadzone was the name of this 3rd DB series I had heard about & it bridged the gap between DB & DBZ.

After seeing ki blasts & hearing about Kaioken (but not seeing it), I thought it was a shuriken shaped ki blast.

The World's Strongest was the first movie.

Tao was an early model Android.

I thought Goten was supposed to be ten times stronger than Goku, hence the name.

The first time I saw the Super Saiyan form it was from an action figure and I assumed it was just a miscoloring or bootleg action figure of Goku.

I thought Gohan in the Cell saga(where he wears a cape and has yellow hair) was a completely different character thats introduced later.

Was convinced that Krillin was maybe, at most, 12 years old, and that Bulma was a little older than that in the Freeza Saga.

Here are some DBZ beliefs that I've once believed, but then found out to be wrong.

I thought Freeza was a female, because of his dub voice and Ultimate Battle 22 voice. Of course, I later found out this was wrong by reading the manga, watching the anime, paying attention to dialogue, and him being constantly referred to as "he" and "Lord Freeza".

Dr. Flappe created #8. I didn't know this was filler at first.

Vegeta was Son Goku's brother. They're both Saiyans, they both have similar hairstyles (similar?), they can both make their hair go blond...

I used to have a DBZ poster in my bedroom. Yamcha was on it, and because I ignored the hairstyle and the Kame logo, I thought that he was Adult Son Gohan.

That's another thing. Because of the Budokai games, I thought that Gohan from the Boo Saga was an adult and not a teenager.

Janemba was the villain who sealed up Elder Kaioshin in the Z-Sword.

Broly was indestructible, since he was the Legendary Super Saiyan.

Paikuhan was a Namekian, since he and Piccolo are both green.

I mistook battle-damaged Reacoom for another character, since prior to that, I had only ever seen Reacoom with his armor on before Vegeta blasted it off. And battle-damaged Reacoom looked like some dumb, balding fuck whose ass was hanging out.

Chaozu was not human. I thought that because he didn't look like a human, he had psychic abilities and he always seemed to float, he was just Tenshinhan's alien buddy.

Thought Tenshinhan was an alien, because of the third eye.

Because I didn't know about Evil Boo at that time (I got a lot of my information about DBZ from UB22 and Budokai games, since I didn't have Toonami or the channels DB aired on), I thought that Super Boo was one of Fat Boo's transformations, like Super Saiyan.

I thought Tapion was the one who gave Future Trunks his sword.

Thought Bardock was a brilliant scientist and the creator of the Power Ball because of the dub.

Super Saiyan 5 was a real transformation, and not one that someone had made up.

Janemba was the villain who sealed up Elder Kaioshin in the Z-Sword.

I thought I was the only one who thought that. I thought that when I was younger since the villain Elder Kai talk about sound and look like someone like Janemba.

Well, at the time I was reading the Andoids arc, I started to play SNES games, such as the Super Butoden series and Hyper Dimension.
These games made me think that:

- There will be enemies that will fight the Z-gang that consist of a fat pink guy, and I thought that DBZ would get much more silly and child-like, and a demon (who I thought was Piccolo's opposite-guy, what would happen if he didn't turn good), and a monkey-like pink dude, who probably had something to do with the fat blob.

- I guessed that Trunks was the present version of Future Trunks, but Goten? He had to be Goku's son. I thought the two of them were very strong, as strong as Goku and co. Then I disregarded Bojack, since he was boring. And Zangya I thought had to do with Cyborg 18, maybe a new cyborg?

-I thought that Yamcha would get very strong, like a super form. Little did I know that it was Mystic Gohan I looked at. And I thought that Gotenks was a cool miniature Goku, or maybe some new kid that will arrive. Whose son was he?

-I thought that Vegetto was a new Saiyan.

- Going to the manga, I thought that Radditz had to do with Yajirobe when seeing the cover.

- I thought that USSJ3 was a good idea and that Goku would defeat Cell in that form.

When I very first got into it, I noticed that Goku had wild black hair and an orange uniform and was really cool. When I saw Yamcha, I noticed that he also had wild black hair and an orange uniform. Plus he has cool facial scars. Therefore, Yamcha must be pretty coo--

Come to think of it, my biggest head scratching moments were when I was first getting into the show and trying to find cheap vhs fansubs. One site had a detailed (but badly written) episode guide for every tape they offered. One of the sentences that struck me was "Artificial Human #18 nearly defeats Satan, but he bribes her into throwing the fight." At this point I was still trying to remember the name of that big green guy, and now I had to memorize 18 cyborgs? Or were they clones?? And the devil is a character?

I bought one of the repackaged Super Battle Collection figures in 1999. (It was Goten. Lulz ensued).

I thought that "S.S." characters were evil clones or from an alternate dimension, and that their designs were released for figures before they actually premiered in the series. (This is before Goku had gone Super Saiyan in the series).

Smart this six year old was not.

I used to think it was pronounced "dragonballz" like "dragonballs" but with a Z instead of the Z being seperate.

I believed the dub line about Goku's dad being a "brilliant scientist."

I thought Krillin was stronger than he actually was. The first episode I saw was where Guru is unleashing his hidden powers so yeah.

-I used to think that adult Gohan was Gokuh, as well.
-Once I realized adult Gohan wasn't Gokuh, I thought he was Yamcha.

These are things people told me, so I thought they were true.

-Bulma met Gohan before Kulilin, the Kame-Sen'nin, and Umigame. She used to babysit him. (Obviously Gokuh's adventures with Bulma)
-Gohan was going to be kidnapped by a saiyan and becomes super strong and evil. (I don't know...)
-Piccolo has a son. (Dende)
