Does the Funi dub really say GT is 10 years later?
I've heard a few times that it does, but can anyone confirm this? If so, exactly what point do they say this in the dub? Or is it not mentioned in the dub itself, but only in Funi promotional material (similiar to how the 5-year gap is treated in the Japanese version)?

I remember the 10-year gap being an estimation from PlanetNamek.com (based on how Bra and Pan looked) and that it just stuck as "official" until we learned differently from the GT guides.

I think it would be great to track down where this number actually came from. If it's not in their actual dub (and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit and watch it to find out), where exactly did it come from and why is it that people say FUNimation's the one who went with it? Was it on their website somewhere? The back of a DVD cover? Some other promotional material?
Definitely something I should add to the "Rumor Guide"... more than happy to do so if someone tracks down the non-PN source on it!

I get that, but people claim that the 10 years also comes directly from FUNimation... and if they think that, why do they think that? Are they just wrong in thinking FUNimation stated it somewhere, or did they actually put that down in writing at some point in time?Dayspring wrote:No, seriously: it was Mr. E's guess.VegettoEX wrote:I think it would be great to track down where this number actually came from. That's what I mean: they didn't (unless there's an ep I forgot about). The rumor started in a misquote of a PN FAQ (iirc, the same one in which Skullmac failed to realize that "Mr. E" was a pun on "mystery"). It became the guess of choice, and then people thought it was a fact and not a guess because of how long people kept quoting 10 years. Then PN went the way of the dinosites and people said the rule was mentioned in the series. Then the GT Profiles showed otherwise and the claim was that it was the dub series.VegettoEX wrote:I get that, but people claim that the 10 years also comes directly from FUNimation... and if they think that, why do they think that? Now WHICH dub series is what I think should be looked into. I'm guessing people just use the FUNi dub by default. Anybody know if it was mentioned in Ocean/Blue Water's dub(s)?
It may also be a hybrid of the '95 dub posters that said the Blackstar DBs were between Pilaf and Radditz. How many years did that thing mention?

I find it hard to believe that GT would be 10 years later because it's already 10 years later at the very end of DBZ. But since I am in the process of watching GT I do remember that in the first episode I believe, when Goku and Uub are shown training that Goku parts ways with Uub so it's basically the end of their training and he mentions how he hasn't been home in a few years.

I distinctly remember an ad on Toonami back in the day for the Blue Water dub in the UK said, verbatim, the following:Dayspring wrote:Now WHICH dub series is what I think should be looked into. Back when all they had was the Pilaf saga and the early Saiyan saga, a bunch of random posters were released. Mostly DBZ movie ones (I still own the movie 12 poster and used to have the movie 9 one) and some screencap types of posters from DB and Z. One was of GT, which was the typical Pan-Kid Goku-Trunks trio and the logo, but had a random blurb that said between the Pilaf saga and Radditz's arrival, Goku went on another DB hunt with "Chichi and Bulma's older brother, Trunks."SSJ Helldog wrote:What is this?Dayspring wrote:It may also be a hybrid of the '95 dub posters that said the Blackstar DBs were between Pilaf and Radditz. Chichi and Bulma's older brother, Trunks... wait, I got this one. Chichi's mom is actually Bulma's mom. She divorced the Ox King because he refused to move out of their fire hazard home, then, because she's clearly a gold digger, started shacking up with Dr. Briefs, who had Bulma from a previous marriage. Future Trunks arrives and is seduced by Bulma's mom (the ultimate cougar), thus giving birth to baby Trunks. Bulma and her step-mother are tight, so realizing that baby Trunks will tear the Briefs family (as well as Capsule Corps) asunder, Bulma agrees to pretend that the baby is Vegeta's. This works to her advantage because she wants to keep him around, but can't let him know that, due to prolonged periods of space travel and cosmic radiation, he is impotent.
Simple.

It says it on Funimation's website(in the "sagas" section):VegettoEX wrote:I think it would be great to track down where this number actually came from. That's the only place I've ever seen it mentioned.

Ah, thanks a bunch, x_bulla_x and Tori-bot! So does this mean it's never said in the actual Funi dub, just in their commercials, summaries, and the like?
