The Z-warriors don't care if people get killed?

Here something that always bother me, People here say that Goku and friends don't really care if innocent people get killed in their battles because their martial artists and not comic book superheroes. Yet this contradicts the characters in-series reactions to the horrible things the villain like Freeza, Cell and Majin Buu do.

They care about people but they also have their own selfish reasons to fight.

Besides that, they know they can bring them back with the DBs so they don`t worry about it too much.

They do care. But they just know that, for the most part, any lives that are lost can be wished back with the Dragon Balls.

They care, but they're not exactly patrolling the city looking for crime and stopping it the way Batman or Superman would. Most of the time, the real threats tend to find them right away or have something to do with them somehow, so coincidentally, they end up saving the world.

Yeah, I always interpreted those conversations as, "Yeah, they care if people die and definitely don't want it to happen, but they have more personal reasons for fighting, usually."

Who told you they don't care? If they can prevent death, they will, and if they can't, well, there ARE the Dragon Balls.

The convenience of the DBs may make them a bit lax, but I think the angry and disgusted expressions on their faces when they see children being incinerated/people getting the life sucked out of them/friends being eaten that it certainly bothers them.

Well, the logic seems to be that by putting the lives of a few in danger, it will be possible to save million/billions of others, and it's not like they can't be revived anyway. Every time they seem to endanger lives, they seem to make it clear that it is the only way, and that they will be able to repair the danger with the Dragon Balls. I highly doubt they would be so reckless without them. Like when Piccolo tells Boo that there are plenty of people left to kill, he thinks something along the lines of "Sorry, people of Earth, I will be sure to revive you all later on." Face it, if you lived in the Dragon Ball universe, you would ave to make decisions like that. I'm sure they never feel good about it.

Like everyone else has said in their own ways, that's not what people here say at all. Obviously they don't like when innocent people are killed, and just about any of them would protect someone who needs protecting, but it's not like it's their job or their reason for perfecting their skills in the first place. Especially not if we're talking about Goku. Sure, he'll protect the world. I mean, you'd protect your home if someone tried to wreck it too, right? But he loves to fight challenging opponents just for the challenge itself.

Take Goku letting Vegeta live after his first visit to Earth, for instance. He didn't let him live because it was 'the right thing to do,' or something else Superman might say; he let him live because 'it would be a waste for someone that strong to die. Next time I want to beat him fair and square.'

I think it's interesting how in all of Toriyama's works, people who actually call themselves a "champion of justice" or the like are universally either incompetent (Lady Red), hypocritical (Pola), weak (Mister Satan), ridiculous (Great Saiyaman), or all four (Suppaman).
