@Kaboom: And Cell is much, much *Freeza fight, Ben-Hur, baked beans* much stronger than Freeza. Though I'm still not sure what it would even mean to destroy something that's essentially just empty space to begin with.

If you understood that, you would probably be working in a secret, government bunker developing wormhole generators, rather than discussing a children's' series with the rest of us.Herms wrote:Though I'm still not sure what it would even mean to destroy something that's essentially just empty space to begin with.

Re: Cell destorying the Solar System?
I believe that Cell was able to destroy the entire solar system, considering the strengths of the characters in the series at that point. Back in the Saiyan Arc, Vegeta almost destroyed the Earth with his Gyarriku-Ho had it not been for Goku's Kamehameha. Consider the battle power gap between that Vegeta and Cell.Hellspawn28 wrote:I notice this has been debated a lot with fans and I was asking do you really think that Cell would really wipe out the Solar System like he said he would? I was asking since most people believe he was lying since he has been known to bluff about stuff before and the attack resulted into a small hole into the ground after Gohan over power it.
Yes, a solar system is a stretch, but this is fiction. But anyway, since Cell never destroyed the solar system, there is no answer.

There's Venus and Mercury too. Saturn too, iirc. And Stars were solid, star-shaped landmasses the size of a town.Herms wrote:There's Jupiter too, at least. Bulma and Popo visit it briefly. Well, I suppose that depends what destroying the sun involves... since the solar system is kinda held together by gravity, and blowing something up doesn't annihilate its mass...Freeza Heika wrote:Also, I guess that if you want to play semantics, destroying the sun alone would destroy the SOLAR system. Then it would just be a loose collection of matter.
Though that wouldn't stop the Earth's impending doom, but what else is new?

There's also that annoying thing where the Sun is made of hydrogen/helium and doesn't have anything solid for Cell's Kamehameha to impact. It'd either punch through the Sun completely, or be swallowed up by the star.caejones wrote: Well, I suppose that depends what destroying the sun involves... since the solar system is kinda held together by gravity, and blowing something up doesn't annihilate its mass...
...and that Cell wasn't even aiming at the Sun.
It doesn't matter what the sun is made of. They blow up planets all the time and we already agreed that destabilizing the core isn't something that could actually happen, yet it does.
Cell can destroy the solar system. The only thing that would cause us to doubt him is if he's bluffing, not if it's physically possible.

Planets are solid (somewhat, anyway - even gas giants like Jupiter have solid cores). There's something for the energy wave to hit and transfer its energy into. 'Destabilizing' a giant lump of iron won't happen, but pumping enough energy into it that it flies apart is certainly possible.mAcChaos wrote:It doesn't matter what the sun is made of. The Sun, however, has nothing to hit. Kamehamehas don't blow up the atmosphere, after all.

The sun's core is about 30 times denser than the Earth's crust and 14 times denser than lead, so I would say it can actually be hit.
I would say that you'll look like a fool if you try to put in too much science into this. It's just a one-line sentence.
In Dragonball, Cell can probably blow up the whole solar system. Even if it may be impossible in our world.
We are speaking of an author that wasn't a professor in physics, if you get what I mean.

In my opinion, when discussing fiction, you can never get too in-depth or throw in too much pseudoscience. It really just enhances the illusion and helps everyone come away from the conversation feeling more satisfied. Just take this forum for example:Godo wrote:I would say that you'll look like a fool if you try to put in too much science into this. It's just a one-line sentence.

Using this as an example, Sonic Team is DEFINITELY not made up of physics professors, and yet an entire forum of people have a grand old time messing with those scenarios, turning them upside down, and generally organizing a nonsensical universe in a logical way.
It's actually very satisfying if one is willing to persevere.

I was mostly referring to people trying to keep the fiction's physics close to ours and try to explain everything strictly by out physics and by known facts, rather than theories, alas not by pseudoscience.IncompetentOverlord wrote: In my opinion, when discussing fiction, you can never get too in-depth or throw in too much pseudoscience.
By pseudoscience, Cell could very well have blown up the solar system, but by our science he wouldn't be able to form ki in that sense at all.

In that I agree with you. Dragonball's physics should also be able to have new laws to explain Chi and such. Magic, for instance, is an integral part of the DB universe, but that doesn't mean it can't have it's own rules and pseudoscience in and of itself.

What the hell would Cell do after he destroyed the solar system? Wouldn't he be super-bored then? If he blows up the planet, how's he gonna go on TV every day saying, "Fight me for you lives!" and preaching about how he's the king bastard of the Earth (He's not to different from Piccolo Daimao in this regard).

Cell: Holy fuck, I'm still not there yet?
