The only comparison shots I've seen were for color only, not quality. TanookiKuribo posted them pages ago. It was a side-by-side-by-side-by-side shot from Pioneer to DBox.DemonRin wrote:Has anyone posted any (Correct by GoC's standards) Japanese DBox shots to compare to the correct FUNi ones we have?

Thanks. By the way, I've noticed that on my TV the Dragon Box skin tones aren't as pink as the GoC Certified screencaps I normally see. I have an AOC Envision HDMI TV (like 22" or 24" or something) and I'm playing the DVDs on my PS3 with upscaling set to "Normal" (so it comes out as 4:3). The colors don't look "off" to me at all, but the skin tone looks a bit more like the skin tone you normally see in most other Dragonball-related media.
I don't plan on "fixing" it anytime soon. Looks great to me. Just thought I'd bring it up.

That is mostly due to the fact that even with a picture perfect PNG, every monitor is setup to display things differently.Kendamu wrote:Thanks. You can attempt to fix this via calibration (and many people would argue it's necessary) but if you don't care, it's not worth your time (although it will make most things look quite prettier.)

Thanks. I might play around with it just to learn more about my TV and its various settings, but at this point what I'm seeing now is absolutely awesome.godofchaos wrote:That is mostly due to the fact that even with a picture perfect PNG, every monitor is setup to display things differently.Kendamu wrote:Thanks. No, I mean FUNi DBox to JAPANESE DBox comparison, not Pioneer -> FUNi Single -> Orange Brick -> DBoxKendamu wrote:The only comparison shots I've seen were for color only, not quality. There was one WAY back. But godofchaos said something was wrong with them. I don't remember any others coming up.DemonRin wrote:No, I mean FUNi DBox to JAPANESE DBox comparison, not Pioneer -> FUNi Single -> Orange Brick -> DBoxKendamu wrote:The only comparison shots I've seen were for color only, not quality. Give it time, mah boi, give it time...it'll at least be at around $40 by the time spring rolls around. I still have to finish my DragonBall Season One set/GT Sets, so those can bind me over 'till then.DBZfan29 wrote:Around $30... it's going for $67 in Wal-mart now, do you really think it's going to drop to $30 any time soon?Big Momma wrote:I think I'm just gonna wait till this bad boy is around $30 at Wal-Mart to purchase it. Found the caps as posted in the threads...
http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll24 ... enFUNi.jpg (this was the one used in the 'comparison')
And from when Haseo went back and redid it http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/792/dboxraditz05.png
Colors are different (can't say for sure which is proper, as even Haseo has pointed out his drivers have had issues, so it's possible his colors are off.)
The original is resolution reduced.
And it's jpg compressed.

There really shouldn't be any difference to make comparison shots with, should there? I mean, FUNi is using the exact same DBox footage that Japan got, right? The only difference should be in the packaging.

Not proper for a comparison regardless...Kendamu wrote:Right! Now I remember those! Yeah... not really enough of a difference to care. Really, I don't see a difference.
especially by you (no offense, if you don't notice the difference, you don't notice it... but it's there, and more than obvious in a few places: few easy places to spot, left side around where the hair meets the skin, and also look at his left eyebrow [left as in the left side of the picture]).

We went over this in the podcast.Big Momma wrote:There really shouldn't be any difference to make comparison shots with, should there? I mean, FUNi is using the exact same DBox footage that Japan got, right? The only difference should be in the packaging.
Using the same footage doesn't, and never was likely, to mean they are just 'pasting' in the DVD copies from the Japanese box.
It was never expected to be identical to the Japanese boxes.
Especially with mpeg2 (codec dvd uses), if you set an encoder to work exactly the same, and fed it the same material, you'd get different output every time.
It'll help a few of you if you listen to podcast 184 (many of the numbers were based on random guesses, or using logical math based on what we knew at the time, but will help explain some of what was expected.)

Maybe more than obvious to you and whatnot, but I'm the guy who won't even "fix" his TV to make it look exactly like the screens I've seen because it already looks so fantasmo that I don't wanna touch it.godofchaos wrote:Not proper for a comparison regardless...Kendamu wrote:Right! No offense, but your Nerd Level is just that much higher than mine.
Never said you had to fix your TV, most people don't.Kendamu wrote: Maybe more than obvious to you and whatnot, but I'm the guy who won't even "fix" his TV to make it look exactly like the screens I've seen because it already looks so fantasmo that I don't wanna touch it.

I'm one of the more calmer ones actually. I know at least 3 people who have sheets of calibration data written down involving specific studio processes, authoring houses, etc. And they redo the settings for each movie.
But regardless, you can't do a real comparison with screencaps that have a reduced resolution, and are heavily compressed.

That's not what I was implying. You're a nerd and you're an ass, but you at least don't tell people what to do with their TV when they don't ask for it.godofchaos wrote:Never said you had to fix your TV, most people don't.
I get'cha. Not on the same lines, but I know much worse nerds than you. I read the Superhero Hype forums and I'm a Ninja Turtles fan.I'm one of the more calmer ones actually. *shudders*
I know, but what you posted (from earlier in the thread) just a moment ago is pretty much all we have to go on so that's what I'm gonna use until something better shows up.But regardless, you can't do a real comparison with screencaps that have a reduced resolution, and are heavily compressed.
That image of the Japanese DBox isn't the right resolution, so it's not "Proper"...
God this is so confusing...
Comparing the two images at different resolutions is wrong, if one has been compressed down, to properly compare you have to compress the other, and then it's not "Proper" as godofchaos says... so why is ANYONE comparing?
We need two images of the same frame at the same resolution with the same compression, both taken "Properly" from GoC's standards.
One image from the Japanese DBox, one from the FUNi one...
