They got my Dragon Box review on YouTube for copyright, didn't remove it though just says "Your video containts content owned by FUNi" bla bla bla, and if you play my video a Dragon Box ad plays right next to it. I'm glad they didn't remove it, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I rated it a 10/10Raki wrote:I think that's totally awesome.Brad Redfield wrote:Gah, the post office is closed today. Anyone see Anime News Network? Its covered in Dragon Box ads.

I can only speak to my own experience, regardless of the policy: In 7 years roughly, I've price matched perhaps a couple of dozen items. Every time I've just taken a printout from the website of the retailer and it was accepted without issue. Granted, I was dressed nicely and I conveyed a sense of professionalism, but I honestly think the result would be the same at nearly every store.russ869 wrote:Hmm... -CoreySo I figured they wouldn't accept a web ad.The guarantee does not apply to our competitors' website pricing
And my experiences have been at roughly 4 stores now (this store today was the first time I had price matched there), so it's a fairly diverse sampling for my area. As always, YMMV.

Yeah really. I saw the price on the display before they altered the price. It was like $77 USD and change. After the price adjustment, I paid $51 USD and change XD.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Yay for not having to pay Best Buy's (surprisingly) bloated price.Jon Jon wrote:UPDATE:
Best Buy price matched the Target ad, as anticipated.
I'll provide pictures if you need proof.

I actually went to two Best Buys by me. The first one didn't have it. The second one, as soon as I walked into the anime section I saw 3 of those HUGE and SHINY box sets. I like HUGE and SHINY

I did the price-match, too. The manager said they normally don't match prices for items that are not available in stores (despite my pointing out that... uhh... well you have it available in stores... Target is just respecting the altered release date). Ultimately, though, they agreed to match the price plus the $2.99 shipping, so I paid $50.83 for it or something like that (plus tax).
Yeah. Got sick of waiting for Amazon's shipment or a review copy.
Love.

I know the store I went to actually had the manager on duty make a copy and take it somewhere. Perhaps to report that Best Buy was being badly outpriced by their competitors? Who knows. Maybe next week we'll see a sale price.Jon Jon wrote:Yeah really. I saw the price on the display before they altered the price. It was like $77 USD and change. Yeah, same pretty much. I was surprised to see them out, really. I only went because I recently got an Amazon order that was damaged in transit (Six Feet Under: The Compete Series, which Amazon is actually sending me a new copy of via next-day delivery so good on them) and I figured if it was local, same price or less and I could actually pick through the sets to find a mint one...well, that's aces all around.I actually went to two Best Buys by me. The first one didn't have it. The second one, as soon as I walked into the anime section I saw 3 of those HUGE and SHINY box sets. I like HUGE and SHINY(please don't be childish and have fun with that statement XD;).
Though, while shiny, I wouldn't say huge:

More pics and such as the week progresses.

That's the first picture I've seen that shows just how shiny it is.... ooooooooooohhhhh! Haha. I'm still debating picking this up, because I feel like I'll just have it for bragging rights and never get past the first 3 discs - like Outlaw Star and many others in my collection.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
On collectibles, sure. I honestly don't keep many DVD cases though, so I usually just shake them to make sure they're not floaters and I'm all set. In this case though, all the 3-4 sets on the shelves were almost completely mint. I just snagged this one because it was the last one in my hands and didn't have any defects as near as I could tell.Jon Jon wrote:I'm glad I'm not the only person who picks through dvd box sets in store and finds the perfect one XD. Granted, this time around I only had a choice of three :/.
No prob. It really felt like Sony had some hand in this set, it's so damned small compared to the originalnathantheguitarist wrote:Thank you Corey! I was waiting for those hilarious pics.

I just noticed how damn thick the original's box is. I mean, I thought the Funi Dragon Boxes ...box... was thick, but I guess not.
And I'm sure they held up. I just glued the sticker-wrapping down on the bottom and top sides of mine. I don't imagine you'd need to do that for something as amazing as the Toei Boxes lol.

Damn Mike, between this and the games you're going to have to take a week off of work...maybe two!!
Say, will Jeff be on the podcast review for this? I know he was on the first Orange Brick review so I'd like to hear his thoughts on this one, too.
Speakin' of Jeff--and I know he has an account here so maybe he'll reply--I remember he was pretty shakey on picking this up in favor of Dragon Ball Kai. Has the sheer epicness of this early arrival or the in-studio excitement over there as Daizex HQ prompted to through caution to the wind, at least for the initial box?

Nah, I've never had any issues (and I've actually watched for it just in case). They were assembled pretty well.nathantheguitarist wrote:And I'm sure they held up. Very slightly. The Japanese box has a sort of texture to it (not on the surface, but underneath the laminate) that makes it less shiny than FUNi's box, which appears to just be plain but reflects more light as a result. Still, it's fairly negligible. Also worth noting is that the DVD books are blue in the Japanese box, but lean more towards purple in the FUNi box. Again, negligible to me, but a difference nonetheless.Krakabeast wrote:Is the FUNi DBox actually shinier than the JPN DBox?

One thing I'd like to point out that I don't remember being mentioned (and I have been following this thread pretty closely) is that the dragon book is HARD COVER. I was confused at first when I tried to pull it out, then I got excited. It makes me happy. So far I'm REALLY enjoying this
.
Well worth the wait!

Do I suspect a possible review for the next podcast? Anyway, I hate to stay off topic (although it's not really the case here) but I was going through the Amazon comments for the Dragon Box and reading one of these just made me smack my forehead.
"A lot of the Japanese score music is reused from Dragonball. The US score is fresh, and it fits the tone of the show better. DB and DBZ aren't the same, and they shouldn't be treated as such. Anyone who says the music in the Japanese clip is better than the US, is a lier. Stop forcing yourself to like the Japanese version just because it's the original. The original isn't always better. That's snobbish."

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
