It's less than surprising to me that this topic has generated such good feedback as it has, so it should come as no surprise to anyone else here who said they wouldn't likely stop liking DragonBall/Z in any shape or form, when I say it's unlikely I would either.
Anyway, I got my first dose of the series back in the late 90's... I had no idea what it was, or what the show was called even, but I liked it. a lot. I used to get up at 6:00am to watch it, just before school... I only saw it three or four times, before the channel stopped airing it though- woe was me.
During this time that I'd gone without, I forgot about the series until November of 1999, when I moved back home for my sick grandmothers sake. It was one day, after moving back, when I was at home that my cousin (who now claims to dislike the series... bastard,) looked at the clock and became excited saying a 'cool' show was on, and that I should watch it.
Being completely naive of what he was refering to, I watched him flip the channels to "Cartoon Network," a station I had been acquainted with just recently, and found a constant source of entertainment; the channel was showing an odd introduction for a cartoon that oddly didn't seem natural... it turned out to be a series called "DragonBall Z"- I vaguely remembered it, but not enough to say anything... but whatever it was about the show, I instantly fell in love with it!
From then on, despite moments of disinterest in later events of the series, I've always liked DragonBall Z, and can't see myself not liking it; as well, I recently watched DragonBall for the first time just a few months ago, and found a completely new interest in it where there was none, when Cartoon Network aired it.

DB will just always be my top favourite anime. There have a been a lot anime series out there that I've greatly enjoyed and love, but DB has a special place in my heart and I don't think any series has given me such delight as DB. Plus, it's because of my love for DB that I met my fiance, so how can I not always love this series?^^
I think that the people who now hate DB or have lost interest in it, weren't really big fans in the first place. They just were into it because they were following the trend at the time.

I guess technically, my boyfriend and I first met because of Dragon Ball, but I'm the only one who really likes it now.
And I'll probably always like it. I was maybe 14 or 15 when I first got into it, but it feels like something I used to watch as a little kid, like TMNT or Thundercats or something. For the most part, I find it to be a rather charming and relaxing series.

Another thing I might add...
Dragon Ball's the main reason I still read Shonen Jump. I mean, the titles there are great and all, but I find myself enjoying reading DB more than any of the other titles.

I could never stop loving DBZ. As much as I am a One Piece whore, I still can't put it (or any other anime) above DBZ. As for the comment on everyone you know letting go of the show...well, since I've come to college, I have had more that 10 different people come to me looking to see if I have any DBZ they can borrow (I am the resident DBZ geek). Especially the end of the Freeza saga. Most of the ones that come to me are people I would have never imagined as DBZ freaks, but there they are! (note* I've only been in college less than one year)
I once told my friend that while DBZ was my favorite anime of all time, there was still better quality anime. He didn't understand. Maybe we (DBZ fans) are gifted in that we can see beyond budget costs and mind bending stories with philosophy behind them, and just know how to watch a show and have the most fun we ever could.
I agree, but it looks like we'll have to deal with a DragonBall-less Shonen Jump now. ;_;

No. I will never stop liking DBZ. Like what other people had said before, it's my "gateway drug" to Anime & it also has a special place in my heart. I seen a lot of Shonen Anime titles that are in some respect superior to DBZ, but beyond all the grunting, fighting, & "powering-up" there's just a charm to it that keeps me watching it. It could be many things, the loveable bizzare characters & settings, ( I mean, watching DB who would of ever thought that Son Goku & friends would end up going to space, then fighting Artificial Humans & a Bioweapon then finally a pink demon?, Only Toriyama thinks of this stuff & I like it) or twisted plotline (meaning you would of never known what would happen next , though the story itself has gotten quite repetitive).

Ugh...
I think Viz is making a big mistake in discontinuing Dragon Ball from its monthly publication. I was originally planning on continuing to read the domestic Shonen Jump until Dragon Ball ended, even if I didn't like DB anymore (I'm a sucker for nostalgia, especially now that this is the last day I'm spending in my house...), but I guess now I might stop. But from what I've heard, Viz is going to release the series in graphic novels only...maybe there's a possibility they will release the alternate ending.

No, I'll never stop liking DBZ. I've loved it ever since I first saw it back in '98, and I'm kind of like, its #1 fan. . . ^_~;;
I'll especially never get tired of the manga, and while I watch/read plenty of of other anime/manga series, DB will just always be my favorite.
I really hate being in such a minority though, I'm just sick of seeing the same old "I don't like/love/watch DBZ (as much) anymore..." talk all the time.

*lol* Yes, but no anime is... :pCaracal wrote:I do realise that DBZ is by no means a perfect anime
I've been with the series for ten years now. That means it's been with me since I was 13 or 14 depending on when in 1995 I saw it first. But either way its been with me for most of my teenage years and beyond. I found the dubbed Pilaf Saga in syndication back in 1995 on UPN down in southern california, I was in Middle School at the time (come to think of it I must have been 14 then). I remember all the silliness that ensued between me arguing with a DBZ fan (I did not know what DBZ was at the time though) who kept yelling at me when I called Grandpa Gohan Goku's grandfather (I later learned he was reffering to Bardock; and was also either making up a LOT of shit or was lying because he said Goku's "real'" grandfathwer was fighting with him in DBZ he also mentioned stuff with Freeza and so on). Regardless oif dealing with the ultimate otaku asshole in gym class I became a fan and the second year of middle school I watched DBZ pretty heavily as well (oh yes them 5 AM saturday mornings....er who am I kidding I was lazy and recorded them by p;rogramming my VCR, unfortunatly I've since lost that tape). Later on I taped it like a binge maniac on CN, and then bought the entire first 2 seasons of DBZ on VHS, the first (and at the tiem only) season of Dragon Ball on VHS, the first 3 DBZ movies and first 2 DB movies on VHS. I even went with season 3 VHS's later up to Super Saiyan Goku - at that time I finally got a DVD player and with news of bilingual DVDs I sold off season 3 and the 3 DBZ movies on VHS to a pawn shop who decided it was worthless random animation and gave me $30 for the lot of them. Well I had no use for the tapes and I could use $30 so I sold them, and I went and bought one of the 3 DBZ nmoies at the time on DVD, bought the other two later. Since I've gone on to buy way too damn many DB/Z DVDs. If I ever DID get tired of it boy will I get tired with myself at the amount of DBZ stuff I've bought including videos, DVDz, wallscrolls, posters, toys, stickers, trading cards, and even a few videogames.
IU started out with the dub but I mainly watch DBZ subbed thanks to the DVDs, and while it is not the worlds best anime (that is best put together anime, I'd have to give that to either Android Kikaider the Animation, or Big O), it IS still my favorate, I don't marathon run other series' as much or as far as I do with DBZ, its a personal love of a show that I don't forsee changing anytime soon.

When you think about it, DragonBall Z is still going to be hot with a lot of fans for a long time man. Take Japan for instance. Budokai 3 just came out and here it has been 21 whole years since DragonBall was first issued. DragonBallZ has that appeal that will keep fans dishing out the dollars for a looooong time. I say that the fandom will completely die by 2025. If not then we would have officially learned that there is something more addictive than crack.
