Thoughts on a Toriyama/Dr. Slump forum section?
Greetings!
I have been lately addicted to the series "Dr. Slump", which is also by our favorite Toriyama Akira. Now, this series gets NO LOVE. AT ALL. There's only one fansite I could find (Arale's Jumpstation). And now, there have been several questions I have about the series. But there's nowhere to ask! I think that Daizenshuu EX has such a large fanbase, that atleast some of you guys know what Dr. Slump is. So, I think we should have a little section called "The Other Works of Akira Toriyama". Thoughts?
PS: If this is a retarded idea to you guys (Mr. Labrie, Kaboom, Tweaker), lock or just delete this thread.
Thanks a ton! :p

I'd like a section for Toriyama's other works. But if nothing else, you could PM me any Slump-related questions you have.

Considering threads solely related to Dr. Slup et. all often get locked, I would support this idea. It's not necessarily going off-topic. That's what daizex random was for.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I would personally be all in favor for an "Other Toriyama Works" section. I'm not really into Dr.Slump (Although I would like to be) and I think it'd be cool to find out more stuff.

I don't particularly see the need, myself. While as Dragon Ball fans we have a natural predisposition to explore and even enjoy Toriyama's other works, our ultimate focus as a website--and by extension, as a forum--is on the Dragon Ball series. If you ask me, that's exactly how things should stay; if we deviate from our focus too much, then we lose the unique vibe that we've established over the years. It's the same reason there's no off-topic forum--it detracts from Dragon Ball, which at the end of the day is what we're all here for.
On the other hand, nobody stops anybody here from creating a general forum for Toriyama's other works and promoting it within reasonable means on the forums--for example, putting a link in your signature or personally contacting anyone who expresses an interest in such a forum. If you can create a budding, lush community from such a premise, then feel free! Nothing wrong with trying.
In the scope of Daizenshuu EX, though? Nah. I like things the way they are, and I wouldn't like anything to take away from that.

As much as I personally would like the section, this is ultimately what the best decision would be.Tweaker wrote:I don't particularly see the need, myself. EDIT: Also, with the new section, wouldn't that mean the site would have to keep up with other Toriyama news as well for the main site?

I'm sorry if I sound like an ass, but I laughed when I read this. I mean, really? Blue Dragon? Neko Majin? Creative input on the Jump special? You know, silly stuff like that.

Blue Dragon ~ 2007. Neko Majin ~ 2004. It's rare if he makes something new. Did he draw the spine art for the new release of the manga in Japan?bkev wrote:Blue Dragon? Neko Majin? Creative input on the Jump special? You know, silly stuff like that.

Dragon Quest games?
I'm not too sure what it is about but a one shot by him and Masakazu Katsura came out last year.

I'd like a section about Toriyama's other works (or a section about Toriyama that could include his other works). Or maybe just one for Dr Slump (and Neko Majin?), since the two shows tend to mix at times. And apparently Arale's even been in some of the new DBZ games.

Why not? I mean, Dr. Slump has been included in an important arc of Dragonball and is a small part of Dragonball's story, as much as the movies are, and we discuss them.
We have discussed crossovers and Neko Majin here, why not Dr. Slump?
It would also be great to discuss Dr. Slump and it's importance to Dragonball as a series.
I understand that the staff wants this forum to stay purely Dragonball, but even the author has mixed in his previous manga into the story.

Having a Dr. Slump section on a Dragon Ball forum is kinda like having a The Color Purple section on an Indiana Jones forum. Just because they're works by the same individual doesn't merit having their own section.

New to the forum? Just want to know when you'll hit your next posting rank? Ever wondered why some users have special titles, and what they mean? The answers to all these questions and more are waiting for you in the Kanzenshuu Member Hierarchy Guide!!

But what do you think of Dr. Slump actually being included into Dragonball at some point? Doesn't that change your thoughts?

I'd say that just means you can talk about those instances. Toriyama being the author doesn't it make it more valid in my opinion, as that whole thing was still merely a reference. I mean, Journey to the West is actually more relevant to DragonBall than Dr. Slump, but do you think we should have a forum for that?Godo wrote:The One Piece/Dragonball crossover, I believe. The Tori-bot wrote:Having a Dr. Slump section on a Dragon Ball forum is kinda like having a The Color Purple section on an Indiana Jones forum. Not a problem.
Well, it has been discussed througly here, whereas Dr. Slump threads are locked.FuniYamcha wrote:I'd say that just means you can talk about those instances. But I'm sure there's still news coming out considering his other works.Shigeru wrote:I'm sorry if I sound like an ass, but I laughed when I read this. I mean, really? I think Tweaker is right, in that someone could make their own Toriyama Works forum. They are incredibly easy to use, through createforum at least... once you get the hang of it. I run a forum of my own (which anyone here is free to join at any time
), and it's not too difficult.
Heck, I'd create one myself right now, but I think it would probably be best if it was a member who's.... how should I put this.... higher on the food chain? It's sure tempting though.
