I decided to return my cracked case to rightstuf. I mailed the return in on Monday, and got a new Dragonbox back yesterday (Friday). Fairly quick, but I'm only 2 hours from them, so take it with a grain of salt.

My new set looks perfect. No cracks or smashed packaging. Haven't played any of the disks yet.

My mp4 encoder was acting up all night, so I decided to make some high quality mpeg2 clips instead. I would recommend vlc media player to play them. All of these are off the 5th disc and are in Japanese only with no subs. Having to extract the subs would have taken longer and I just wanted to encode the clips.

Goku vs Nappa
I chose this scene since I remember it being really pixelated and macroblocky on the HK bootlegs which I feared would be part of the FUNi Dbox. I'm impressed how FUNi was able to compress it.

Goku vs. Vegeta

Kamehameha vs. Gallic Ho

Egads! A next episode preview?!

These should show you how great they look in motion. :)

Gah, I forgot there was a time when a man (and not Tanaka-san) voiced Baba. O.o

So gorgeous. Now I want to see the TFS version of the beam struggle to the DBox footage. O.o

While I must admit these look nice, it's not something I'm going to run over the hills to buy. I'm mighty fine with the random individual discs I bought for $3 a pop at Frys' a couple months ago.

Wow. Just... wow. The DBox really is more impressive in motion. I think you've convinced me to trade up after a few of these are out. I shall tell Funimation to send you a commission, sir!

Yeah, I'm having a blast rewatching. At first I just watched a little bit of Goku vs Nappa and Goku vs Vegeta to check it out, but I decided to go back to the beginning and watch it from Episode 1. Can't hurt right?

Almost through all the training filler on the third disc now, but have to take a break to go get drunk and watch college football followed by more football in the morning after helping out at a feed the homeless event. In any event I'll probably finish it off by Tuesday.

Is it just me or are the next episode previews of less quality than the regular episodes? This is most notable on episode 003 to me so far.

Well yeah. Oftentimes the colors on the Next Episode previews are different from how they are in the episode.

I finally got mine in the mail. The book is a bit thinner than expected, but it's still a nice addition. Also, no tearing on my set, luckily.

Did anyone else notice that on the advertisement booklet that came with it, there is an ad for Z movies 3 & 4 with a release date of January 2010?

Yes, there was even a thread about it.

I finally got around to buying the Dragon Box earlier today. Like most people before me, I went to Best Buy and picked it up for the low Target-matched price of $47.59. I had a little trouble getting it, however. The set was in stock at the store, but it wasn't on the DVD shelves (so they had to go and get it from their storage in the back of the store). One worker was telling me that if Best Buy sells things before their actual street release, they can get fined. I'm guessing this is what happened, they pulled it from their shelves, and never put it back after the seventeenth. Besides, they don't actually have the right to sell it early, even though we love them for it!

Anyway, I haven't done much with the set. It's resting on my Dragon Ball shelf and probably will be staying like that for the rest of the night. I already watched the first episode. I don't want to watch too many episodes a day since the next set isn't coming out until February, so I'll try to watch as little as I can every day. The episode looked and sounded fantastic. I don't have any complains as of yet.

As for the Dragon Book, well I had a little problem. The page that describes the Vegeta disc (6) is a little bent. I don't know how it got like that, since everything else is fine. Anyway, no other problems with the book. It's great.

The packaging is awesome. It looks so incredible. The DVD books and Dragon Book are a little tough to get out, though. For some reason, the first DVD book and Dragon Book slide out very easily but the second book just stays in place unless you actually pull it out. I'm not going to get to those discs anytime soon, so I have no worries.

Overall I really like this set and recommend it to all fans of the Japanese version of the series, fans of the dub that can put up with the Japanese score and no Faulconer track, and anybody that wants Z the best way it can be seen. Since it's Dragon Ball, I'll rank it out of seven. I give the first of seven Dragon Boxes a perfect seven out of seven! SPARKING!
An interviewer asks, "The soundtrack in Sonic 3 has become legendary. Is it true that you worked with Michael Jackson on it?" Takashi Iizuka kills all of our hopes and dreams by replying, "You know, those are just rumors, and SEGA does not want to say anything about them. So they will forever be just rumors..." WHY!?
