Do I see some bit-rate slippage here? It looks like a shot from the old Pioneer DVDs!
Is the macroblocking on the actual DVD, or is it due to the capture method?

I also have to say that the Japanese music is far better than the dub music. But I kinda miss the HARD RAAWK music during the title cards

It's very hard to see. In motion, it may be gone entirely. I'm just so glad that Funi has released a great DragonBall product, finally. After the season sets, a little macroblocking is almost welcomed. Haha (Joking). Anyway, my only complaint in regards to the Dragon Box is that the black levels are deep in the Japanese release, whereas we got the 10% boost in brightness that has been mentioned. I noticed it right away from the screenshot comparisons and I can always easily tell which shot came from which box. It's not a huge deal, but black levels are one of the first things I look for when judging the picture quality of any video. But hey, I'll take the small boost in brightness over the hyper-contrast look of the season sets anyday! =P

If only they made the DragonBox noticable bigger, it didnt have to be as huge as the Japanese....but with it being relatively the size of the season sets, I can see why some peple are being "eh" about it and confused over the two.

I'm glad the domestic is a bit smaller. It fits on my bookshelf with the rest of my stuff. If it were bigger, I'd have to find some new place for it and hope it doesn't get knocked over.

This is the generic flaw of screencapping.
That screencaps very often are not representative of how it appears while watching.
It's part of why when I cap for reviews I go through the caps.

I highly reccomend watching this boxset with Cyberlink PowerDVD9. Using it's tru-theater settings have really made the picture come alive. It offsets that dull bright appearance and makes the color a bit more vibrant in addition to sharpening the picture.

Yeah, and if you notice, it's causing the picture to break up like crazy.
It's the same type of stuff companies ruin video quality for to make people 'think' it's sharper, it's not.
I'd say turn that shit off.

*focuses on picture really hard*
I'm not seeing this "breakage" you're talking about. It really does look clearer and sharper.

Anyone here think they might actually make new trailers as these come out or do you think it'll be more like their Dragonball Blue Brick trailers where it was the same footage and narration with a "Season 2" tacked on the end?

And plenty of people still swear that about the orange bricks.
Doesn't make it true.
If you look at the black on his shirt, there are small issues on the main cap, on the 'sharpened' cap, it breaks up to crap.

Please don't talk down to me. And I'm looking at the black on his shirt right now and all I'm seeing is black.

You're not being spoken "down" to. You're having things explained to you.
The orange from the circle surrounding his symbol is bleeding into the black of the rest of the shirt.
What you're doing by turning things up is introducing additional noise into the image because it's over-compensating to try and adjust to what you're telling it to you. It's easy enough to say "Oh, I think this one screen-cap looks OK!" (and sure, maybe you think it does)... but it doesn't work that way in the real world of video processing.

Well, he has a point, the original black may not be BLACK but at least it's not interfering with other colours, your personal enhanced shot even looks bad from afar.

Not seeing it, either. Don't care either way, though. I like the top image better, anyway.

The top image is better. In no way does the bottom image even look sharper.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I'm glad DragonBall Z looks the way it does on the Dragon Box. It wasn't made in 2009 and it never will look like it was.

So how does the image look on an 46-inch tv?
Can anyone give some opinion with their experience?
Or doesn't this mather so much if you have a small or big tv? I have no idea actually...

I've been watching on my PS3 connected over HDMI to my Sony STRDG920 receiver itself connected via HDMI to my Pioneer 50" Kuro plasma TV, which can do a full 1080p.
It looks like a show from 1989, as best as it can be presented, upscaled as best as it's going to get.
"Dragon Box: The Movies" certainly upscales the best out of any of the remastered material... no doubt. Yes, the process of upscaling is going to bring out a little extra in the faults that you might not notice, but it's a very viewable experience.
