Though it's the same for SPARKING! too...

Seriously, I thought this was an unspoken rule about subtitles: if what a person says is already displayed prominently and legibly on-screen, you don't have to code in a subtitle for it.

Is it because there is an alternate angle in which there is no lyrical text? If there isn't, I know there was alternate angles on the season sets so I bet they just copied the subtitles from there, and this is what we have.

There's no alternate angles on the Dragon Box at all, it's all Japanese Credits all the time! And then there's messed up American credits on the scrolling black screen at the end of the DVDs.

First thing I noticed, the PS3 stretched the image to fit the entire wide screen. So I set my TV to display in 4:3. Noticed the colors were bleeding really badly in the darker scenes ut looked fine in brighter scenes.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Oh, I also set the contrast to dynamic.
You shouldn't need to mess with your TV. Your PS3 will do 4:3 on its own. Just go adjust the display settings with your PS3 controller while watching. There shouldn't be a need to drastically alter your contrast settings either.
No, the PS3 didn't give me the option of adjusting the aspect ratio settings. That's why I had to do it with my TV. I also tested the DVD on my desktop computer and while it's not as bad as it was on the PS3, the colors were still bleeding like crazy on the first episode (mostly in the darker scenes where Raditz's ship is hovering in space.) I also see some pixellation in most of the episodes on the DVDs as well.

The upscaling option is what determines the aspect ratio. I think "normal" will give you 4:3 where as "fullscreen" will stretch it. If I'm remembering correctly.

Again, upscaling is only possible through a digital (hdmi) connection. Component cables won't work.

Personally, I found a workaround to this. While my tv is a bit older and does not contain an hdmi connection, it DOES have a dvi input. Without getting into it, dvi and hdmi are essentially the same thing, but hdmi can send audio as well as video signals.

Check to see if your tv at the very least has a dvi input. Then you can get a cheap dvi-hdmi connector, and you'll be in good shape to take advantage of upscaling (and with that comes automatic proper aspect ratios without changing tv settings).

Actually these seems kinda different from the Season Set subs, plus there's now karaoke subs at the top of the screen now.

Wow, I never knew that. Because I've always been able to connect my PS3 with an HDMI.

I guess it has to do with Component cables not being a "copy-proof" or "sniff-proof" connection (whatever the hell that means). I think this restriction might only apply to DVDs with a certain type of "Macrovision" copy protection (which unfortunately most DVDs made in the last several years have).

Why is this? I know the specs are laid out to where HDMI will do 1080P and component cables can only do 1080i (and 720P). Why couldn't players upscale the video and send it via 1080i or 720p across the cables if they choose to do so?

Heeeeeeeeey, I said that, not Steve Simmons...

Also, remember when everyone was talking about the glue not sticking right on the box and it eventually comes off?

That hasn't happened to me at all.

So I finally played around with the upscaling features on PS3 and set the upscale to "normal". Now I see the benefits of the Dragon Box. The video remastering is truly remarkable.

I haven't seen any kind of problem with the box sticking together either. All I've got damage wise is a very small tear on the inside fold of it that probably came from the original packager having trouble fitting the cases in such a tight box. But that's hidden when the cases are inside, so it's all good.

On the frontpage, there was a message regarding the pricedrop for the dragonbox 1,
Is this a reaction to poor sales of the first set?
Is this just speculation? Did the DBox sell bad? If so, is there a chance the rest wont be released if this is so? anyone have more info?

I, in the Dragonbox 2 discussion, on the price reduction wrote:sooo sidestepping the goopy part, I'd like to comment on the price reduction. You guys do realize that it may have absolutely NOTHING to do with the sales good or bad. GoC pointed out that FUNi was cutting prices all over the place.

This sounds more like trying to correct for the bad economy in general, not poor sales of a specific product, especially given Dragon Box One is still the same price. Hell, I've been unemployed since July, so if it's cheaper I might be able to get it as a pre order christmas gift of mercy or something.
