DBZ games are like Ice Cream, I love it but I would get sick eating it everyday. I want something new with DBZ games for once.

I think Kunzait_83 has a good opinion on it. However I disagree strongly. I think we can say what we want as it may be an old property but it's still a game. They don't get a free pass from me because DBZ is old. As the fact is the fighting games wouldn't be too bad if they were consistent. But every one now seems one step forward two steps back. If the didn't rush the games as much like say they took their time and gave us a deep RPG, it'd be so much better.

But people would then complain(both reviewers and fans alike) that the RPG is nothing like the fighting games. It would be Sagas all over again.SSJmole wrote:I think Kunzait_83 has a good opinion on it. However I disagree strongly. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I don't think I will buy another DBZ game unless it's give me something worth buying. Maybe a crossover game, or a RPG.

Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
Not really. The problem with Sagas was it was shit. However look at other Non-fighting games of dragonball. Revenge of King Piccolo doesn't have people complaining it's not a fighting game. The new DS rpg has people excited. The games will be judged on their own merits. If a DBZ RPG came on ps3/360 and was a good well made game no one will complain it's not a fighter.Raki wrote:But people would then complain(both reviewers and fans alike) that the RPG is nothing like the fighting games. And the people who would say a RPG is nothing like the fighting games. I say "Duh it's an rpg!"

Sagas was a action beat up game, and if RPG's can be done like on the DS then it should work on the PS3, and 360 systems. Make a 3D DBZ rpg done like LOG then make it start at the Sayain Saga to the Buu saga. I think it has a good chance to sell well.

DBZ fighting games really need a custom character creator feature and better online features as well, or at least a racing mini-game. This would at least make them somewhat worth the purchase.

If they want another fighting game to sell well then do a DBZ game like MK vs. DC. I'm pretty sure a shoen jump vs. DC game would be a big hit to sell.

Those two could be a great marketing tool to make some more money off the DBZ video game franchise.B wrote:Care to explain either of those stances?dragondyle wrote:DBZ fighting games really need a custom character creator feature and better online features as well, or at least a racing mini-game. Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
Is it a dying breed? I only hope so. I had to many disappointments with DBZ "fighting sumulation" games. The only thing that will stop this poorly made DB gaming franchise is if developer's golden super saiyan money cow cease to produce milk of spirit bomb proportions. But that won't happen anytime soon because the obsessives fans and 13 year old boys will continue to raise their hands in the air to feed the super cow with vast amount of Zeni.
Hmm, let's see, how many Dragonball jokes did make there...

Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
I don't think the problem is that DBZ fighting games are dying off, it's just that the two next-gen ones were heavily cut-down while IW was a rush-job 'remake' of B3.
I put remake in quotes because the fighting system actually did get a nice overhaul (and is far superior to B3's), but almost nobody noticed because the graphics, sound and attacks were just copy-paste from B3, and the ones that weren't are glaringly unfinished (GT Goku doesn't have an SS4 Gogeta capsule, fer pete's sake).
There hasn't actually been a Budokai 4 or Tenkaichi 4, only "Budokai 1 with Broly and bloom effects" and "Tenkaichi 1 with less characters and bloom effects".

Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
The only way a DBZ game would probably sell well at this point, is if Infinite World was released again, only this time, with updated PS3 & 360 graphics, online play, multiple costumes, more levels, more characters, and more ultimates.
The gamers who take fighting games seriously in terms of 3D strategic gameplay haven't even touched Raging Blast or any of the other Sparking! titles because they're DBZ sims instead of DBZ fighters...
I'm not trying to sound like this site's resident ass-kisser of this game, but let's face it, IW is the mackdaddy of all the Budokais. DBZ fighting games aren't gonna get any better than what that game's done.

I thought Budokai 3 was better than IW. IW was fun all but Budokai 3 was much better IMO

Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
For me it died after BT3..... which actually is not a ''real'' fighter for oldschoolers like me, so last real fighting was Budokai 3/Infinite World and Super DBZ (the only actual DB fighter with classic fighter controls).
Revenge Of King Piccolo is nice and I like side-scrolling a lot more then repetitive idiotism, only each time with slightly better graphics and 10 characters more.....
What is the bust-buy tip for DBZ fighting??? Buy the last title of the series, because it's actualy the first (unless it's Budokai 1) but more enhanced.....
Yeah there were lot of things changed for example between Budokai Tenkacihi 2 and 3, but it was on cosmetic level, that I really don't care in overall gameplay.
Raging Blast...... Budokai Tenkaichi with less characters and better graphics but characters with weird new redesigns (I think that the art of 3D characters was pretty off) on PS3? What's the point???
The suck people from money as much as possible?
Because of these market strategies, Dragon Ball seems to me stupid sometimes. Like some product for mass audience to make a lot money on merchandise than actual anime series. I think it's true nowadays, Dragon Ball isn't that anime series anymore.

I preferred almost everything in it. The gameplay felt more solid and deeper. The graphics were more to my liking, Story mode was more fun. The only thing IW had better IMO was a couple of characters and the mini-games but the mini games were not as good as they should have been. IW felt to me more incomplete. While B3 felt more solid and perfected.Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:Care to explain why? Please, enlighten me.

Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
Took the words out of my mouth. It's funny how when people talk about Dragonball Games they talk about Budokai-present yet the series has been pushing out games since its airing in Japan. As fans we are extremely spoiled, year after year we get not one title but multiple titles on multiple platforms with various play styles. The funny thing is, just like the North American Renaissance, Dragonball is going to get a lot more titles with Kai on the rise; there's going to be no stopping any time soon but as fans we really shouldn't expect too much anymore. I have 10 Dragonball games on my shelf and at the moment I don't need another. There are games ranging from Action/Adventure-RPG; there is an MMO out in some regions and there is even a game based off the card game. I'm always willing to see whats in store for the next Dragonball installment but this late in the game, but I wouldn't expect much.Maphisto86 wrote:Well put Kunzait_83, really put things into perspective. I frankly find it a bit surprising how long it took for Dragonball to really take off here in North America when throughout eastern Asia and in other parts of the globe it was the thing during it's run. I think most fans are focusing on what they think should happen as long as the Dragonball gaming wave remains. Yet I think this thread is a testemant to the real fact it won't last forever. We have been spoiled too much with releases annually since Budokai and I think we (especially younger fans like myself circa 1999 onwards) take it a little for granted when really this is a franchise that is as old as I am. Yet Dragonball continues to have a strong nostalgia factor to warrent new merchandise in the gaming industry.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Re: Is the DBZ fighting game franchise a dying breed?
Why not just do a crossover fighting game like MK vs. DC, and add a few shoen jump characters into it since Bandai Namco owns One Piece, which is also dubed by Funi also. I think a Goku vs. Superman game will sell a big load of money. I think the only way other then create a fighter mode that will make more people to buy DBZ games in my opinon.
