Maybe it wasn't a plot hole. Kid Buu absorbed people in the first place to start the whole mess right? Maybe they didn't risk Gohan going there as Goku or Vegeta end up getting absorbed they still have options. But Gohan goes there and kid buu absorbed him we would get a super Buu like threat.

Let's get back on topic here folks, since I always like imagining this scenario.

Going by the non-canon Garlic Jr rules of immortality, Vegeta would probably piss off Freeza by not dying and Goku would arrive during the fight. Goku and Vegeta would take Freeza down and Vegeta would turn on everyone. Then he would kill everyone, destroy Planet Namek, and rule the universe like he said.

If he doesn't lose his brain in this timeline like he did for a lot of the post-Freeza story in the regular universe, I imagine heading to Earth and taking care of unfinished business will be the first thing he'd do...

Yes, but if Vegeta had gotten his wish of immortality with the 3rd wish of the Namek Dragon Balls, and Kami didn`t use the Earth Dragon Balls to revive the Namek people but waited instead, they could wait for Vegeta to take care of Freeza in Namek and then remove his immortality with the Earth Dragon Balls right away.

And besides don't you think the first thing a smart tactician like Vegeta would do would be to find and destroy one of the Dragonballs to prevent someone like Freeza from also becoming immortal...?!

Although, it's never been proven that the Dragonballs can be destroyed (except by killing the one who made them). But the characters all seem to think it would be enough to simply physically destroy them.
