It's Namekuseijin, not Namek-jin. It's pretty clear as to how they call the Nameks, the clearest is obviously when Gohan and Kuririn arrive on Nameusei.Rory wrote:(ADMINISTRATOR NOTE: This topic was broken off from another due to general member inability to stay on-topic. I guess it's the same as my stance on Saiyan/Saiya-Jin. I say Saiyan because my naitive language is English, it's is a nice, clean accurate translation (as long as you say it correctly), I don't know anybody who says Namek-Jin . Like Saiya-Jin, if you wanna go round sayin' Mirai, that's all fine and dandy, but it just sounds weeaboo. Yeah, I said it, and to be honest I don't care if anybody is offended, it's a dumb thing to be insulted by anyway.
ANYWAY
Loving the concepts being brought forward by this game, Gohan's book being a personal favorite of mine.

I'm talking about the Manga, not some Korean MMORPG released fifteen years later.Xyex wrote:Maybe at first, but now that DBO is out, and is the official continuation of Dragonball, Majin is now a race.Majin isn't a race of people like the Saiyans, it refers to one extraordinary Demon being who has the title of Majin, much like Lucifer in Dragon Ball Movie 2.

Except that it's not just Korean, it has more Toriyama involvement than most things these days, and it is an official continuation of Dragonball. Toriyama was the one who came up with the Majin's as a race. As I said, yes, before it could be considered to not be a race name, but now it is the official name of an official race.I'm talking about the Manga, not some Korean MMORPG released fifteen years later.

<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

I know this may seem cliched, but Dragon Ball Online isn't canon. I know Akira had some involvement in the game, but is it really stated that he came up with the Majin race.Xyex wrote:Except that it's not just Korean, it has more Toriyama involvement than most things these days, and it is an official continuation of Dragonball. Nameku? No, that's Japanese phonetic ending all consonants, sans "n," that way.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:It's Namekuseijin, not Namek-jin. Let's not forget that "our" god actually has a name, the majority of people just don't use it and prefer to refer to him has God or Lord.
Edit: I'm following the conversation in the last page. I didn't notice there was a new page.

So if you got a Japanese gal with name Sakura, you will call her cherry-tree?? Or Cherry-tree?
There are some twisted people in this discussion
I think it's okay to call Olibu instead of Olive, you can also say Torankusu if you want, it's your choice, but it's pretty weird to call Trunks from future Mirai Trunks. Yeah I know that mirai is a nice word and it's cool, but when I'm speaking with someone about Dragon Ball in czech, I will always say ''Trunks z budoucnosti'' and never Trunks from future, because it simply doesn't make sense.
That's like you have a car and say to your friend: ''This car is pretty haiyaku........'' You know what I mean
Or like some ''Otaku'' gals are saying: ''That guy is kawai!!!!'' Bu these ladies are crazy b*****s
Hate them a lot.

Re: Names & Phrases: Translate or Not?
You might have something here if you were talking about... almost anything else, where Toriyama had no involvement up to creating some sketch for Toei(Need a final villain? Here's a horned Dabra!), but for DBO, he, along with some execs who work at Shueisha, are signing off on every last thing. Ki techniques, physical attacks, game mechanics, and story elements. The game has been development for like, eight years. How many failed story plots and ki blasts do you think NTL(company making DBO) came up with that Toriyama and Shueisha rejected before settling on the current ones? Notice how the "Dark Eye" organization seems to have been dropped.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I know this may seem cliched, but Dragon Ball Online isn't canon. In terms of in-universe discussion about crap in the manga that made little sense or just wasn't touched on, DBO is the closest thing to explaining something as we will probably ever get. Toriyama won't be drawin' up a serialization anytime soon.
