The Burst Limit dub, I believe, is where Goku referred to himself as Son Goku when talking to Freeza.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:With all the video games in the past ten years, they had to re-dub most of the series (if not all of it) over and over again. Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
I personally do not like the name change, however we'll see where it takes us in time... I'm really hyped about this, I hope FUNimation do a good job of it and I look forward to buying the blu-rays. Seeing as it is being aired in widescreen in Japan, I hope the blu-rays are in 16:9 whether cropped or not.
I'm unsure whether the aired version in Japan is cropped, anyone know?
It's great that they're announcing it early, shame I can't see the site from UK though... looks like I'm going to using a proxy
I'm going to put the Kai releases in first priority compared to other DragonBall merch.

It was. The version on TV and DVD is cropped to 16:9. The BDs are uncropped 4:3.LilKokuLink wrote:I personally do not like the name change, however we'll see where it takes us in time... Along with an accurate script, let's just hope that they will use correct pronunciations on various words...

I doubt "Saiyan" is going to sound correct anytime soon, but here to hoping they'll let Schemmel corrctly pronounce "Kaioken."Mountain wrote:Along with an accurate script, let's just hope that they will use correct pronunciations on various words...

I wouldn't get my hopes up for that, but I'll pray for it. They're so invested in the incorrect pronunciations, they'll most likely never change, which is a shame.Mountain wrote:Along with an accurate script, let's just hope that they will use correct pronunciations on various words...

I would hope that for around $50 we'd get boxes that are comparable to the BD boxes in Japan considering that BDs cost much less here.

Okay, so I don't know all about the 4:3 and aspect ratios but I do know theres a difference in the DVD and BR picture.....does one show more of the picture and the other cuts part of it off; or is it some other difference?

Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
The 16:9 picture, as in what you see on the broadcasts and DVDs, is cropped. Carefully cropped to lose as little of the important stuff as possible, but still cropped. The 4:3 picture, as in what you see on the BDs, is not cropped. It's the original intended aspect ratio of Z and Kai.LeprikanGT wrote:Okay, so I don't know all about the 4:3 and aspect ratios but I do know theres a difference in the DVD and BR picture.....does one show more of the picture and the other cuts part of it off; or is it some other difference?

Yes, you can see an example of the broadcast/DVD cropping in Daizenshuu EX's review of the first Blu-ray set.Kendamu wrote:The 16:9 picture, as in what you see on the broadcasts and DVDs, is cropped. I thought the original intended aspect ratio for kai was 16:9?Kendamu wrote: The 16:9 picture, as in what you see on the broadcasts and DVDs, is cropped. Interesting... it's most likely the exact opposite for me. Depending on how many episodes we're looking at for that "Season 1 - Part 1" boxset, it might be a good dollar/episode count. I already have the R2 DragonBox Singles, so I'd only be interested in the 1080P upgrade.SSJSteve wrote:If it gets released on DVD I'll probably end up buying it. If it gets released on Blu-Ray I wont bother.
Then again, everytime I see an episode of Kai online, I'm in the group of people that think its inferior to the original.

To answer your question, you might want to give this a read.LilKokuLink wrote:I thought the original intended aspect ratio for kai was 16:9?
No, we know what the Japanese releases are like. That's why he listed them off, just you like you asked him to. He answered your question.LilKokuLink wrote:So is it not known then?

Nope. Japanese broadcast standards forced Kai into 16:9 when on TV, but they're producing it in 4:3.LilKokuLink wrote:I thought the original intended aspect ratio for kai was 16:9?Kendamu wrote: The 16:9 picture, as in what you see on the broadcasts and DVDs, is cropped. Yeah, I think that's the only one we may get. He's done it in Burst Limit and it switches back and forth in Raging Blast. Also, in Sagas (The Video Game), Kyle Hebert pronounces it correctly during a narration.Kendamu wrote:I doubt "Saiyan" is going to sound correct anytime soon, but here to hoping they'll let Schemmel corrctly pronounce "Kaioken."Mountain wrote:Along with an accurate script, let's just hope that they will use correct pronunciations on various words...
Also, Sabat (as Vegeta) pronounces it correctly in the Saiyan Saga at one point on the Dub Music Track (It was Re-Dubbed on the JP Music Track).

Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
I went and looked at the Daizex shots of kai, and both seem to have a part of the screen cut, so I don't know which I will get; but more info is to come so surely that will clear things up more by then.
