Orchestral music in action scenes can work as long as its fast-paced unlike the song that was playing when Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2.
But that's not DragonBall GT. Which is what this topic is about.

I was talking about Dragon Ball GT, I just used an example from Z.

If you really want the GT previous episode recap music (which is awesome btw), you can hear it off the extras disc menu from the GT Dragonbox.

Getting the GT Dragonbox extras disc on the other hand... :x

In the original Japanese version, the music played was a very ambient and laid-back tune that happened to be playing on Chun-Li's stereo. It set the mood in an incredible way because of the contrast of this seductive music transposed against the horrible violence taking place. Over in the English dub of the scene, it cuts in and gets swapped out for a KMFDM tune that goes for the same over-the-top "GGRRR!!! HARDCORE VIOLENCE!!!" that FUNimation went for a lot. Does it "fit"...? Well, sure. I guess...?
As a HUGE fan of SF:TAM, especially the Japanese original, I have to point out that the music playing on Chun-Li's stereo in the dub isn't even the music used in the original. The original used a really blues-y piece called "Cry", while the piece playing on the radio before the fight in the US dub sounded like something out of a porno, which made the shower scene seem even more gratuitous. Off topic, I know, but it is a really good example of new music totally "missing the point".

Also, I had seen the US Dub of the SF movie many times long before seeing the Japanese version, and that didn't change my view that the Japanese version is superior one bit. Not saying that doesn't happen for some people, or that it's not a legitimate excuse, but just an interesting observation. I suppose the same happened with me and DBZ: I grew up with the dub score, but now prefer the original.

And finally to make my post seem a bit more on topic, I agree with Mike that the use of "correct" in this thread is a bit suspect, but I'll let Inigo Montoya sum up my feelings for me.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

That movie has a quote for everything.
