Alrighty, so from what I and ChibiGoku have been able to decipher from the second page (the above link should take you to the proper page), Dragon Ball Kai is confirmed for at least 33 DVDs, 8 Blu-ray, and 99 episodes. If our DemonRins, Herms', Julians, or Heathjios can lend their Japanese to us, that'd be swell.

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
I'm going to post an update about it shortly on Kanzentai, but that's basically the gist of it. I'm just glad we can put that stupid stupid rumor to bed now. It was driving me crazy!
By the way, you can't link to certain parts of Happinet's DBK site because of how it's set up. All the content loads on a single page and is activated with JavaScript, so straight hot-linking does no good.

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
Yup, it says "All 33 Volumes (Out of a total of 99 Planned Episodes)"
It looks like the "About 100 episodes" rumor was true. It uses the Kanji "Zen" from "Kanzenban" as in "Complete", so I'm pretty sure we finally have a rough episode number. Though, the word "Planned" (予定 , "Yotei") is in there, so I'm going to say it's a close estimate but isn't entirely concrete.
EDIT: And Hujio beat me to it! XD

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if during production they found they needed to up the count to make for a better flowing episode or two. Stuff like such happens when you get into the editing stage, whether it be story-breaking or post.DemonRin wrote:Yup, it says "All 33 Volumes (Out of a total of 99 Planned Episodes)"

In the scenario that there are going to be exactly 100 episodes, this set only has 99?
Hopefully this means the 100th will be something special AKA a movie or at least an episode that is completely re-animated.

I pretty well imagined that a dirt-cheap re-edit of DBZ that's getting awesome ratings would continue as long as possible. I'm glad it's confirmed, too!

The 100 episode thing was a guess by someone on 4chan, which has turned into the truth by some people's standards. All we know is Toei guesstimated they'll need 99 episodes to cover the rest of the series. I think you're jumping the gun by hoping they'll do a huge special movie thing as the 100th episode. But it would be nice to get a new movie, at some point.Big Momma wrote:In the scenario that there are going to be exactly 100 episodes, this set only has 99?

Anyway, you can read my post about all this over on Kanzentai. But according to my calculations, with the planned 99 episodes, we can expect to see the series run through the beginning of March 2011. So that means we have at least another year's worth of content. Yay?!

Toei? Spend money on a whole new episode?Hopefully this means the 100th will be something special AKA a movie or at least an episode that is completely re-animated.
We'll probably get "Tarble Kai".

I'd like to see some new animation that ties-in with DragonBall Online, by animating some of the story leading up to the games continuity. A new DragonBall episode, for us, plus an interesting advertisement, for Toei = Win/Win.Big Momma wrote:Hopefully this means the 100th will be something special AKA a movie or at least an episode that is completely re-animated.
Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
99 episodes sounds great! I'm happy to know for sure how long Kai will be. I would like there being a brand-new special-made 100th episode, but I doubt we'd get such a thing.
On hiatus.
Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
Well I think the biggest "YES!" is the the whole Planned episode thing.
I'm with the majority that says, if you're gonna recut the show, you better do it all.
Though Jacob brought up a good point on TZ, there is quite of bit of filler infused with the canon of Cell and Boo.

In the manga, isn't there 2 endings? Maybe we will get to see the other ending as episode 100?

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
It's more of an "extended ending" than a real "second ending." Sure, there were a few minor tweaks on some already-existing stuff, but the major chunk of it was more of an addition.LeprikanGT wrote:In the manga, isn't there 2 endings? Maybe we will get to see the other ending as episode 100?

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
You know, I hadn't really thought of that in some time. It was mentioned when the series was first announced, but I had completely forgotten about the possibility of the kanzenban ending. I suppose it is possible, since it's supposed to be the "Toriyama Akira Original Cut Version". I just have a feeling, since they're recycling old Z footage, that we'll get the same ending again. However, it would be really cool if they animated the ending and put in on the last Blu-ray box set as a special bonus. I'd definitely buy that set for sure.LeprikanGT wrote:In the manga, aren't there 2 endings? Maybe we will get to see the other ending as episode 100?
On a side note, I was going through the new information for Kanzentai's DVD Guide, and realized the episode count doesn't quite add up. Which is leading me to believe there may be more than 99 episodes. Happinet lists Box #5 as having 15 episodes, rather than the conventional 12 like the rest. But if there are 15 episodes in that box and there are 99 episodes in total, then that would mean one of the other box set would only have 9 episodes. Why would they do that? It doesn't make sense to take three episodes from one box set and add them to another, unless they know there are going to actually be more than 99 episodes. Otherwise why would they increase one box set to 15, unless they are compensating for something, like more episodes. Anyway, it's just a theory, but the numbers tell the story.

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
I'm guessing that "99" is an approximation. As for the extra episodes, I can only think of two things:
1) The Freeza arc's last episode is 54 and they wanted to end the set at a definite point before moving onto a completely new story.
2) They want to get you hooked on the next arc so that you'll continue buying the sets, so they included a little bit of the Android arc at the end of the final Freeza BD box.

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
Oh, I fully realize it's an approximation, I was just pointing out that I think we can anticipate there will be more than 99 episodes when it's all said and done. It would just be weird for Toei to have each box set have 12 episodes, then suddenly make one have 15 and another only have 9. They're usually pretty good about making things match-up so they can charge the same for each one. Like I said, it's just a theory that I was throwing out there. But I do think you may be right about the Freeza arc ending right at 54 and the artificial humans appearing in 55, or some such thing.Kendamu wrote:I'm guessing that "99" is an approximation.

Re: Happinet update: 8 Blu-ray Boxes, 33 DVDs. 99 episodes?
If you break down the chapters left from 308 (where we are now in Kai) until 329 -- 帰らない悟空 (Kaeranai Gokuu) a.k.a. "Goku Doesn't Come Back" into an even 3 chapters per episode, that only leaves seven episodes. Then you have to take into account that episodes with lots of fighting can get up to five chapters per episode... which would mean even less. So, either they're gonna shove a little filler from the Freeza fight into the next 12 episodes or we can expect a little bit of Artificial Human action in the fourth box set.

The Blu-ray releases are a lot more expensive and are being released as box sets with multiple discs, rather than individual discs like the DVD releases. Each Blu-ray set also comes with a "Dragon Book", which is a lot more than what comes with the DVDs. They basically give you every incentive to buy the HD Blu-ray release, since that's why they remastered the series in the first place. What would be the point if everyone just bought the SD DVDs, ya know what I mean?LeprikanGT wrote:33 DVD but onyl 8 Bluray? How many episodes do those things hold?
