Has Dragon Ball ever made you do anything silly?

Post by Travis Touchdown » Tue Feb 09, 2010 11:18 pm

Maybe I'm just weird, but DBZ made a huge mark in my life in my younger days.

I remember back in high school Cartoon Network was so slow at getting new episodes on TV that between my friends and me, we pretty much owned the whole Buu saga on VHS. My friend bought a new tape and we watched it and it ended with Buu's puppy getting shot. We were all so pissed that a dog was killed and wanted to know if it was okay that we dug through our houses, our pockets, and our cars to gather up enough change to buy the latest tape that night in order to find out if the puppy was okay or not. The sad thing is the only place in town to buy it was Sam Goody and, at the time, they had the most unfair prices anywhere, so that was $30 in coinage the poor girl had to count for that tape.

My best friend and I are also infamous for having mastered the Fusion Dance. All throughout highschool to present day, we perform the Fusion Dance when we're not winning at some game. The crazy thing is it works. After performing the Fusion Dance, we suddenly start bowling strikes instead of the gutterballs before hand, or suddenly start to dominate at Marvel vs. Capcom, etc. It was really funny for his wedding, after all the formal pictures were taken, the camera lady said to do something goofy for a fun picture. We immediately did the final part of the Fusion pose. After the picture was taken, his wife's little brother came in the chapel and said she had specific instructions that we not do the Fusion Dance for a picture. He was just a few seconds too late. It's totally posted on his wall.

When first saw the ep with Buu's destruction, when Goku threw the Spirit Bomb, I yelled at the tv, "NOW DIE YOU SON OF A BITCH! DIE!" Upon finishing I covered my mouth in fear that my mom would've heard me, but luckily she wasn't home. Was 20 at the time, but if she heard me, it would've resulted in a big hand imprint on my face for days.

Back in the late 90's I would walk a mile and a half to China town to buy video tapes of episodes that were in horrible quality. Like really, really bad quality. It was like $20 bucks for one tape! Oh god, is this one of those "when I was your age, I walked up hill in the snow" stories?!

Me and my friends would scream really hard to try to become Super Saiyan and we also trued to do a Kamehameha. It was fun.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

Well, it inspired something silly. Sometimes when I blow-dry my hair, I do it from the bottom up, so it looks like I'm going Super Saiyan.

I once tried to teach my cousin to fly.

I've also been known to try to kamehameha my TV when I'm angry at spammers online from time to time. It hasn't worked yet :(.

This one time, I signed up for a DB message board where I argued for hours over the English dub for DBZ and what musical score was superior.

So ridiculous.

Let's make a list because lists are fun:
  • -Stole Dragonball Z tapes from Suncoast
-Actually spent money on "Uncut" DVD's
-Actually considered buying the "Dragon Box Z" set
    -Watched GT
-Wasted hard earn money buying Dragonball crap
-Open up a DBZ club on deviantart dedicated to Bulma, Chichi, and Android 18, which I still run... Kinda.
-By DBZ prizes for such club
    -Joined the Daizex.com forum
-Watched, read, brought, downloaded, Dragonball related porn (And yet somehow that's less shameful than everything else listed above).

While flipping through an old copybook of my earliest writing to figure out a date for another thread, I realized I wrote a crossover fic in late '99/2000-ish. Between Dragonball Z and Pokemon. It's called "A tale of 2 Anamies"

Vedgeta kills pikachu because it was annoying. I can't really read a lot more past that because it's embarrassing and my handwriting is horrid o_o

I also spent $20-30 each for some 17 'uncut' VHS tapes back in the day and thought they were awesome  because they were the 'real thing'.

I once pointed my finger at a planet in hopes of blowing it to bits, like Freeza.

It worked.

A mile and a half? Jesus dude, why didn't you just take the Q train to China town like I did?

One time I made this Dragonball website where I kept a big of a journal about my travels, martial arts training, and conditioning and how Dragonball is a big inspiration in my training. It was as if I was trying to live life in a Super Shounen manner! I hear that soon he's going to get a camcorder so he can make exciting videos that take the whole thing to the next level! I think it was called Sparking Turtle or something silly like that!

Also, I seriously took up Ki-based studies when I was a teenager in response to Dragonball Z and applied it to my Taekwondo and Kickboxing training. By the time I sorted through all the bull and narrowed it down to what I was looking for (emulating Dragonball with real Ki techniques), I had a pretty awesome grasp of breath control and the various types and uses of a well-timed Kiai (drawing out strength, blocking out pain, focusing all of my concentration and strength into one attack, protecting the internal organs, startling someone, etc.).

I should probably re-train that stuff and apply it to MMA since I've learned a few things since then.

 Alright, well in all seriousness...something Dragon Ball has made me do sillyish. Hmmm.

Purchase all of the BK Toys from the Cartoon Network Season 3 airing, even though the commercials made me facepalm as a third grader. Hit on a girl that liked Dragon Ball, but turned out she was actually a nut I would never ever approach.

.....OH, and that one time I jumped off of the school's roof, yelling out "Bukujutsuuuuu~!"

It didn't work.

When I lifted weights and ran cross country, I would imagine to myself that I was reaching different "Super Saiyan" levels... I got to Super Saiyan 2 when I beat this douchebag at a 2-mile race.
