I was taking a look at the first Opening of DragonBall Z, and I noticed that there seems to be two different endings to this opening. However, I want to know, which one is the original Japanese ending that aired? Also, if one is the original, was it altered by FUNimation and they changed the ending?

They're both original japanese endings to the DBZ opening theme. The one to the left was used for the Androids arc-Cell arc. The one to the right was used for the Saiya-jin arc- Freeza arc. They also have a totally different opening theme to the Buu-arc & up.

I found it a bad move to show Super Saiyajin Son Goku straight from the opening.. it kind of spoils the surprise. XD

I used to wonder who the hell the two guys on Goku's sides were. Didn't know about Trunks yet and I didn't recognize Yamcha. Anyone else think he was someone else at first.

Not to mention Mirai Trunks slicing Metal Frieza and Vegeta going Super Saiyan.
You are talking about the "Rock the Dragon" opening right...

I remember having a shirt with Super Saiyajin Vegeta, Gokuu and Trunks on the back when I was in high school, back when Cartoon Network was doing the first couple of seasons on rerun for the millionth time. Someone came up to me and said "Is that some kind of fake DBZ shirt? I don't know those characters!" It made me laugh.

That reminds me of when I first became interested in DragonBall Z in November of 1999, and I visited the "7 Mile Fair" and found a import table with quite a few imported figurines and wallscrolls/posters (although at the time I had no idea what the concept of importing was, or that any of that stuff was not available at retail stores here in the US,) and I purchased a handful of posters with collages of various characters that appeared throughout the show.
At the time I had no idea who some of the characters were (some of which were Trunks, Cell, Majin Buu, Android arc Yamcha, Super Saiya-jin 3 Goku etc.) and much like Miguzi's former shirt issue, my friends also questioned whether or not the posters in question were real, so I had the forsight of going online and collecting minor information of these characters- which served to sate them, but I would live to regret this, since my cousin and a mutual friend would later come to me spouting babel about an "Super Saiyan 6" being adorned with blue hair, appearing in movie 4 (Slug!? Which as anyone in the US will know that in 1999 movie four wasn't even out yet,) and how this blue haired "SS6" also appears in movie 12, where every villian from the series returns. Lacking forsight into the movies at that point (and still having not seen movies 11-13,) I wasn't sure what to think, and if memory serves I did have a few "fan-gasm's" about the unknown; shortly there after movie four had been released and I realized my cousin was a retarded 'rumor monger', or rumor starter... anyway, even with gullibility not in check, those were still some good times.
Atleast I've matured since then (very little,) and don't buy into every two-bit, half-baked rumor I hear. I would imagine every fan of DragonBall Z experienced the 'fan-boy/girl' thing atleast once, unless they were mature adults when they began to follow the series.

Well, I became a fan before the internet became popular or affordable, so I couldn't do any fact-checking. Thing was, when I first saw the series (about 11 years ago), it was at a friend's house. He was a year older than me and his brother was three years older than him. His brother had a friend who had these Japanese connections, so he introduced us to Dragon Ball. It was the Cell Games and I loved it immediately. However, this friend of mine got mad that whenever he liked something I would like it too, so he banned me from watching it with them. He let up a while after that, and I remember watching some GT episodes not long after they aired in Japan.
Fast forward a couple of years and I began watching the show on the International Channel. I knew who the characters were for the most part, but didn't really know the plot. I only knew Vegeta as a good guy, I didn't know why he and his bald friend were blowing up planets.
With the internet, I became the MASTOR. Or something.

Does anyone know exactly when all of the animation changes take place in DragonBall Z for both openings?

As a matter of fact, didn't they used that ending when they started showing Dragonball Z in the states (I think that was around '96')?

I guess I should re-write this...
Does anyone know what episodes the animation changes take place in DragonBall Z for both openings?
Also, does anyone know if there are any animation changes that take place in the DragonBall Z endings? As far as I know there arent' any, but I want to make sure I'm right.

I'm not certain when Cha La changed animation (since it's been noted there are two intros that use the song), but I think that was the only intro or ending that had scenes change at some point.
As for the other intros and endings altogether, We Gotta Power took over with episode 200. For the endings, there's Zenkai Power, which was episodes 1-199, and Boku-tachi wa Tenshi Datta (We Were Angels), with episode 200 and up. As far as I know, none of these changed.

Cha La Head Cha La:
version 1: 1-21
version 2: 22-117
version 3: 118-199
We Gotta Power: 200 - 291
FUNimation doesn't have version 1 of Cha La, but you can see it in the intro for the first movie (which is also used on the Ginyu disks for some reason).

Crap, that reminded me that I had meant to add that into the current
feature regarding the "Uncut" DVDs... still the wrong animation for the opening. It's the 2nd version, with Nappa & Vegeta.
