A little quick question I was always thinking about
How did Goku learn to fly? In pioneers dub of the first few sagas there was no mention.
I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

That's the general assumption, although we never actually see him use it until his fight against Piccolo Jr. for the winning attack, so it's also possible that he just learned it in the middle of that battle. I mean, he learned the Kamahamaha after seeing Roshi use it once, it's entirely plausible that after seeing so many other people use the technique, he just picked up on it naturally.Pedro The Hutt wrote:During Kami's training, unless I'm terribly mistaken. ^.^;;

In the anime you can see him fire a ki blast on a log of wood to cook his dino-tail-steak IRRC, guess he learned it by himself while surviving in the wild.

That brings up the question: Are ki beams heat beams or force beams? I would think force beams, since a lot of the time when people get shot through (Trunks, Piccolo, etc) they don't burn, they just get a hole punched through them. Aren't most of the Gohan survival scenes filler?
Well, I guess they could cauterize the wounds like a lightsaber or something if they were heat beams. I don't know.

Most of the Gohan scenes are filler. In the manga, the most you see is him cutting off the dinosaurs tail and running away from it ( aswell as being shouted at by piccolo and crying).He goes Oozaru aswell.
In relation to beams - I think they are a bit of both. Force and heat. When a character is hit with one some of their clothes may get ripped and torn and look a little singed. Also the beams can be forced back like a solid object.

But the "Ma" in Masenkô means demon (I believe it means the Demon Flash).askani son wrote:The masenko is one of my favourite techniques.
I always thought that was something Gohan taught himself because he needed to defend himself in the wild (like Piccolo intended).
Why would Gohan name his own attack after a demon?

Mmm...
Well, ki isn't heat. It's life force. But what it can be manipulated to is another thing. In that instance, Son Gohan used it to start a fire.
I go with the idea that Goku learned to fly only during the fight with Piccolo, but he perhaps attempted to do it while training with Kami. As for Gohan, I think the first time he used ki as a sort of blast-like fashion was when Piccolo threw him against that rock. So Piccolo must have taught, or at least helped him to control it during their training before the Saiyans's arrival.
