It's always sounded to me like she's always out of breath or something. She's got no power to her lungs.metalwario64 wrote:The voice perhaps, but her acting seems really weak... In a literal sense. It sounds like she is afraid to raise her voice at all.

Nope, I never did find the four Goku files
. Back in January 2008 I started posting what I had for some of them, but no-one ever got back to me saying they could fill in the hole with the Goku samples. Sorry, all!
Fairly sure Delgadillo and Nadolny (obviously) were two of the choices, but I can't for the life of me remember what the other two sounded like.

Don't worry. They would've sounded like generic kid hero voices. Nadolny's Goku really stands out over Delgadillo's and Henderson's Goku.VegettoEX wrote:Nope, I never did find the four Goku files. How you're about to spew out statements like this and then turn around and bash penguintruth for the exact same thing (simply with an opposing point of view) is beyond me. I'll give you one thing -- the fans (well, FUNimation's intended audience that was paying attention to them at the time in 1999) certainly spoke, and Nadolny was given the role. At that time. At that place. With those people.

I certainly wouldn't have voted for Naldony. But at least her Goku is more believable than her Gohan.

I have no idea. All I know is that I voted at the time. I can't for the life of me remember much of it, or who I voted for. All I remember is that one of the losing Pilafs sounded a lot like Peter Lorre... which was kinda funny.

I said: "stands out over" not "is superior to" and "doesn't sound like like a robot or chain smoker" like penguintruth has said.VegettoEX wrote:How you're about to spew out statements like this and then turn around and bash penguintruth for the exact same thing (simply with an opposing point of view) is beyond me. I don't have a problem with his opinions, (they shared by most of the people on this forum). I just have a problem with how he says it. Other people on this forum calmly explain why Nozawa is better than Schemmel or Nadolny.
penguintruth on the other hand, angrily badmouths the voice actors and their talent with little justification made.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Yes, he does go overboard by assuming things about the voice actors' acting skills. 'Cause while they may do terribly as certain characters, that doesn't mean they're bad actors. They just need good voice directors and parts that suit them. Still, "stands out over" and "is superior to" are the same.. exact.. thing. Also, "sounds like robot or chain smoker" is his opinion of the how the character sound (nother against the voice actor). There's nothing wrong with stating his opinion. In fact, many (including myself) share this opinion in regards to Nadolny's Gokuh and/or Gohan.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I agree, but keep in mind back when they were dubbing Dragon Ball, FUNimation didn't have the wide range of actors to cast like they do now. Schemmel and Nadonly were good choices considering.linkdude20002001 wrote:'Cause while they may do terribly as certain characters, that doesn't mean they're bad actors. "Stands out over" is more of a subjective point of view. "Is superior to" is more objective. eg. The Dragon Boxes are superior to the Orange Boxes.linkdude20002001 wrote: Still, "stands out over" and "is superior to" are the same.. exact.. thing

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
The fact that FUNimation had very few voice actors to choose from doesn't change the fact that the voice actors chosen weren't the best for the parts. If FUNi had only now just gotten the Dragon Ball series, they wouldn't choose Nadolny to voice Gohan (which is obvious since she's been replaced), and Sabat wouldn't be half the cast.
"Is superior to" is also an opinion. The Dragon Box Z sets lack something that the orange bricks have, therefore "The Dragon Boxes are superior to the Orange Boxes" is only an opinion.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Incorrect. I have, several times, explained in detail why I prefer certain voices to others. It is the others who disagree who have a tendency to make blanket opinions without specifying why.
No, a bad performance does not equal a bad actor, but many of the performers I'm speaking about are indeed also bad actors, because they have not shown themselves competent in any other role they've been given. And in some cases, some of them have not really acted much outside of their DBZ roles and I have nothing else to go on.
I'm under no obligation to pad my opinions and justifications for them to avoid offending tender sensibilities.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
True, but it really depends on what your view of "superior" is in the context. If a Dragon Ball boxset, for some reason, cropped the show into 2.35:1 and color corrected the show to a putrid shade of brown put in a season of Charles in Charge as an extra feature, and I really love me some Charles in Charge, I might be compelled to say it's "superior." It's all about what you're looking for. Despite all of its technical mess ups, since the orange bricks have the American music, if that's what they're a fan of, they'll say its superior in spite of everything else."Is superior to" is also an opinion. The Dragon Box Z sets lack something that the orange bricks have, therefore "The Dragon Boxes are superior to the Orange Boxes" is only an opinion.

That's your opinion. We don't really know the other possible kid Goku voice actors FUNimation had. Nadolny was chosen because FUNimation thought she was the best.linkdude20002001 wrote:The fact that FUNimation had very few voice actors to choose from doesn't change the fact that the voice actors chosen weren't the best for the parts.
Superiority isn't an opinion, it's a fact. The King is superior to the Prince, Kaiohshin is superior to Kaioh etc.linkdude20002001 wrote: "Is superior to" is also an opinion. In my experience, superiority is used to express both percieved and obvious hierarchy.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Superiority isn't an opinion, it's a fact. The King is superior to the Prince, Kaiohshin is superior to Kaioh etc.

Anyway, I'm going to have to agree with most everyone when I say I'm glad Nadolny is not returning for Gohan, but her Goku was not too bad.
All I wanted is for Gohan to not have the same exact tone of voice and ridiculous amounts of rasp from being a toddler all the way until the end of the Cell Arc, and apparently that's what we're getting, so I am happy.
