I don't think Goku would be the type to live at Capsule Corp. He would just train in a gravity room like Vegeta all day.

I myself never really thought their relationship would go any further than friendship, of course I have considered it a few times. However, watching Z before the original DragonBall it changes my perspective on things - I've known and got to know Goku and Chi-Chi being together. Even if Bulma got to Goku before Chi-Chi did, as soon as Vegeta appears I think Bulma would have changed (providing that everything else remained the same, no Gohan being born may have changed things with the kidnapping). In the Buu arc we have Bulma really expressing her feelings for Vegeta, just as she does in the History of Trunks special.
If Bulma was able to lose interest in Yamcha, I really think it would have been the same when Vegeta came along - though Bulma really matures by that point.

It's hard to call because it's not real life and we can't judge it like it is because plot can change everything. I always really liked the Goku and Bulma friendship because they were the first ones of the whole gang to meet. On top of that, Bulma was always the one that thought back and told the stories of what it was like when he was a kid - from these points it really makes me feel their friendship is strong.

I like their relationship as it is . Also, Goku showed us his resistance to women when he said he "doesn't wanna see no dirty butt" of hers - therefore I conclude it would have never worked.

I call bullshit to all the comments here. It's Bulma we're talking about here! She had a thing for throwing her body at ever guy she came across with since day one. I'm sure she even fantasized about doing every male character at one point or another, Yamcha, Goku, Vegeta, General Blue, probably Kirillin, maybe even Lunch (bi curious), and she flirted with her own son! Bulma is a minx!

Vegeta just happens to satisfy all her needs. Not just sexual but also her craving to start a verbal fighting match every two seconds. After the whole "desert bandit" attitude withered away with Yamcha, I think she got bored with him and went on to another guy. Goku was already married at the time and even if they did become a couple, they wouldn't last a year! And given Goku's track record (disappearing for years on end) unlike Chichi, Bulma wouldn't put up that shit. Eventually she would have moved on to another guy. That guy was Vegeta. He's a rude selfish asshole and Bulma finds that hot even though she would never admit. (Like most women)

I think Chi-Chi was perfect for Goku; and Vegeta was perfect for Bulma. Vegeta is a prince with money and Bulma is a rich girl who thinks she's a princess, while Goku is a carefree fighter and Chi-Chi is willing to put up with his BS. Bulma would have left Goku after his first death just like she left Yamcha.

Although you make valid points about Bulma's sluttyness, you forget that she never saw a naked guy until she met Goku. Her virginity is only questionable there on after but not before. Maybe she only allowed guys to go to second base.

Ha! I was waiting for someone to mention this possible pairing! I too found that Goku & Bulma would've probably been an interesting matchup. While rewatching the show in Japanese I did catch on Bulma contemplating on whether she 'blew it', which I found REALLY interesting. I think it should've been explored in the show or manga a little more in detail... But then again Bulma/Vegeta is a really, really perfect pair heh.
