Did Toriyama really supervise Dragon Ball Kai?
After seeing the press release brought up this site, I have to wonder exactly how much supervision and creative control Toriyama had with Kai? Because everything before, has lead me to believe that Toriyama had nothing to do with project at all aside from having his name slapped on it after its initial announcement claiming Kai to be the "Toriyama Cut" of the show, closely following the manga. I ask because FUNimation, let alone Navarre, is hardly a reliable source for those sort of specifics. Not to also mention that Toriyama had claimed Blue Dragon to be the last anime had any sort of involvement in, but we know that's likely to change. Nothing can ever be really confirmed with him, huh?

I think he's just the kind of guy who just rolls with the punches. No future is set in stone for him....

I sincerely doubt that Toriyama had any direct involvement in Kai. By "Toriyama Cut" they most likely mean, "closer to the way he originally wrote it." Meaning, "most of that fluff and filler baloney cut out."

The press release also mentions Toriyama personally overseeing the project.Kaboom wrote:I sincerely doubt that Toriyama had any direct involvement in Kai. By "Toriyama Cut" they most likely mean, "closer to the way he originally wrote it." Meaning, "most of that fluff and filler baloney cut out."

Re: Did Toriyama really supervise Dragon Ball Kai?
I'm hoping that one of the Kai Dragon Books will have an interview with Toriyama, and we can find out just how much involvement he really has. I'm sure he has some sort of involvement, and possibly a say on what filler he liked and should be left in. However, I really can't imagine him going to Toei every week and sitting down for hours to go over this stuff. I see him more as going once a month and planning out a bunch of episodes in advance, giving some input here and there, but not planning out the entire show.

Because he supposedly supervised it. As in, got sent a large cheque.B wrote:Uhm, he did. What's with the quotation marks?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Yeah, like he "supervised" Dragon Ball Online.

He gets the final say in every aspect of the game, hes been working on it for the past 5 years. I don't know where you're getting this idea that hes done nothing for it besides had his name put on it.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Because he supposedly supervised it. Re: Did Toriyama really supervise Dragon Ball Kai?
It's glaringly obvious he's involved with it. Have you even looked at the character designs? Plus, they wouldn't cosntantly advertise his involvement in interviews if it wasn't true. The "TORIYAMA IS IN ON THIS" aspect of the game was heavily pushed by NTL. No other DB product has done that.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Because he supposedly supervised it. Why don't you just come out say you don't like DBO? No one cares, and it's better than making things up.

DBO, he's obviously taken great part of.
Kai, I suspect he's been supervising his bank account.

True, but we must question whether Toriyama took a plane or a long car drive to wherever they were making DBO to supervise it.penguintruth wrote:DBO, he's obviously taken great part of.

Re: Did Toriyama really supervise Dragon Ball Kai?
It's been proven that Toriyama has extensive involvement with the DBO project via character designs under the "Bird Studio" moniker. The developers at NTL went over story concepts (and even character licenses) with the approval of Shueisha and Toriyama himself. I don't see why it's being argued. The Kai license is a bit tricky. The first we ever heard of it, it was being claimed as a "Toriyama Cut" but I believe more so in the sense that it follows the manga than any personal supervision by the man himself. The US press release is pretty revealing, and like Hujio said, I'm hoping there's an interview with man himself via the Kai Dragon Books.
