I'm not saying that it's something hard to do, hell, I am even typing it out all the time.Blue wrote:It's basic manners in pretty much all English speaking countries and Japan. I'm pretty sure Piccolo (the user) falls into one of those groups. You're referring to a person that lives in Japan therefore I think it's proper to use Japanese manners. Mike pretty much wants us to do this so why not? Is it really hard to type out "Toriyama"? Is it really awful to expect people to use common English manners on an English speaking forum? Much like how we expect people to use proper English spelling and grammar.Godo wrote: *etc*
I'm not saying "well screw your customs" just when in Rome y'know?
One thing that confuses me is that you say that when you speak about someone from Japan, you use Japanese manners. But that's not how it works. I have been in many countries and I speak several languages fluently, and that's never the case. You use the manners of the country you are in at the moment.
To use proper English and proper grammar is something that is clear for a functioning board. But on the Internet, I don't see why people should adapt their manners just because the board's admin is an American.
The Internet isn't a country. It's a connection point to people from all the Earth. I don't see how one would restrict mannerisms just because of that.
If people are offended by someone typing "Akira" instead of "Toriyama", be assured that if the person is from another country, they are not trying to offend the man, and that's just common knowledge to know. Respect doesn't only lie in how one presents someone's name.
I myself wouldn't ever put that kind of restriction on anyone, especially when I run a board when people from all of the world are welcome.
But then I don't know whether Mike wants it this way or if the general board visitors frown upon using Toriyama's first name only.
Just sayin'. And I shouldn't have posted this much off topic to begin with so I apologize, and I would like to refer any further conversation via PM if possible (if it's only directed to me, not if it's for public knowledge), so that we can continue the topic.
To contribute a little bit:
One of the moments that I would like to see is when Pan met her husband. As I understand it, Goku Jr. is Pan's grandchild, right? What happened in between?
Who in their right state of mind would date Pan, and marry her, and provide the seed to her offspring, who in turn would create Goku Jr.?
Somehow I doubt that it was romantic to begin with.
Anyone got thoughts about it?
