Where's it said that nobody keeps their body at death?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Really? Then why would East Kaio be there? And I thought that the guides described heaven as a place covered in flowers? Or am I mistaken? I ask this because the place where Goku was training had zero flowers. It had trees and even a building but no flowers.
Hadn't he come to see one of his fighters or something? I remember him mentioning he had a fighter who he thought could beat Goku. Or is that just in the anime? I know in the anime the fighter is actually there, and he isn't in the manga, but I think he still mentions him.

Yes, that is true, he was talking about his fighter, but he traveled to heaven to just ask that? He`s not dead so he has no business being there. North kaio I can understand because he is dead, but then again, it appears that he didn`t stop being Kaio. Could he go to heaven because he is dead and still be Kaio?

I don`t know, I always view it as Goku went living with Kaio somewhere in the afterlife, but not actually in heaven. Since what really interests Goku is training I always thought it make sense.

Also, since I was under the impression that the guides describe heaven as a place filled with flowers, I honestly thought he wasn`t in heaven.

What about a spiritual body, though? If controlling one's ki is a super rare ability in the universe, would it not be possible to have some form of body as well? As I mentioned earlier, besides the person after Goku, we see a dog and a Martian in Heaven when Goku's with Kaio.

You're right there, I think. Unless this is also filler (or at least this specific piece of filler is more manga-accurate) Chi-Chi, Videl, Bulma and Dabura are all seen floating around in a field of flowers.

Again, this contradicts the whole theory of who keeps their body in the afterlife, so it's likely just more filler. I really need to catch up with the manga.

It is indeed filler, but they also had ghostly tails instead of feet/legs, so it doesn't seem like they had their bodies in this case.

Heaven's a whole planet, though, so I'm sure it's not all fields of flowers.

Beats me. Why would he be less likely to be there than anywhere else, besides his own planet? (and it's South Kaio you're thinking of)

Here's how Daizenshuu 7 describes it:

Heaven
Area: Afterlife
Special Characteristics: The world where dead good people reside.
Events: Goku practiced for the 25th Tenkaichi Budoukai here. (Daizenshuu 4, p.73/ Daizenshuu 7, p.36)
Anime: Those sorted out as good people among the dead gather here. It is about as wide as the universe, and its entire surface is a field of flowers.

So Goku trained there, and in the anime it has lots of flowers.

Yeah, he's mentioned in the manga too. He's named Papoi.

So going back to the original question, is there anywhere in the manga that explicitly states that only a chosen few get to keep their bodies, exempting the Piccolo/Vegeta scene in the Buu arc? This seems a bit late on to finally set the rule in stone.

Something tells me it's right around where Goku is presented to Enma Daio in hopes of being allowed to pursue Kaio. Someone who has those pages, please confirm!

Actually, I think it's after Cell is killed and Goku is giving his farewell speech.

Nope. All they say back then is that Goku had been brought to the afterlife still in flesh form to receive training. They don't spell it out in more detail until the Cell saga, where Goku tells everyone that he's being allowed to keep his body as a privilege for saving Earth. However, since most of the other people in line when Goku first died were just souls, and since Kami had to physically bring Goku's body to the afterlife for him to use it, I think it implied that it wasn't standard procedure.

I think Goku said, "Normal people and evil ones don't get to keep their bodies, but I do, as a thanks for saving Earth." Or words to that effect.

Fair enough, but it doesn't explain why Radditz got to keep his body. Plus his physical one was left on Earth.

I assumed that he didn't, despite Enma bragging that he put up a fight.

I think I saw someone say that Enma wasn't nearly as arrogant about beating Raditz in the Japanese version than he was in the Viz version.
