Thanks GenerationII, that's a lot better. I'll start with character design sheets (and height chart) for the all of the characters featured in the intro. After that thumbnails, then the actually story board anamatic. But I am generally busy during the weekday so I can have some stuff up later this week. Depending on the complexity of the character, I should have at least 3 character design sheets by Friday or Saturday.

I'm going to start with Goku, then Xicor. Anyone have a suggestion who the third should be? Maybe Xicor's mother?

@Macho Man:Yes, something similar to that...but better.

@Scarz: You should absolutely do Princess Lila, considering the fact that she is a new character.

Oh! btw we have ten days until April first, if we could release something to the general public, maybe a teaser, that would be really cool in an ironic way.

Considering the work I do during the week, ten days is little to soon for me to whip up something like that. Maybe another artist could pitch in and help out with making a quick teaser trailer or someone with decent editing skills can take the current DBZ and GT footage and combine them to make it look like a real animated DBAF trailer.

No. I don't want to do anything with preexisting footage. People have done that, I've done that. That's not what this is about. What I want to do is make a teaser. It probably won't even have any REAL animation. Probably just text on the screen and a voice over with some looming music. I'll see what I can whip up.

If the episodes will look like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPFjs3H7KCE I'll be 100% satisfied!

That's actually pretty darn good for a fan animation.
I like this better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3o8n1yec2Y, but the first one is still nice.

Or...we could ask this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy79VrIHzHw

He looks like he knows what he's doing.

I was actually going to suggest asking firetears, but it seems like he only does bleach stuff, and to be honest he seems like a douche, he made a video called "I am 14 and I'm an animating genius" or something like that. Its obvious that hes good and yes maybe even a "genius", but thats just downright Vegta-like.

Just want to give you guys a heads up and say that I'll have two character sheets up by Saturday. I'll try to get it out sooner but I'm trying to finish up a comic before the deadline. (Don't ask me what comic, it's a "no-no" comic for big people).

First Goku then Xicor sheets. Should I do color alterations on Goku's clothes too? It seems like Toyable has a love for green or something. Any color ideas for Xicor clothes?

And just to point out the elephant room, I know someone asked about my feelings towards DBAF (not here on the forum btw) knowing how much I dislike the comic. I'm just going to say that I'm doing this because it's a fun project and I'm interested in seeing where it goes. That's all. So in a ironic way I'm saying "Fuck this fanmanga! I can't wait to help out with the animation!"

Xicor should look like this, like Toyble draws him: http://img411.imageshack.us/i/xicor.jpg/
Yessir, red eyes.
(scanned from the front-cover of my own copy of DBAF - Vol. 1)
For Goku's clothing colors you can use this from Toyble's blog: http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/toyble/imgs/0/0/00ca14cb.jpg
Although, here in Italy the correct pronunciation seems to be "Zaiko" ;-)

Thanks Scarz, you've been amazing. I should have some kind of teaser made to blow people's minds by Sunday or Monday.

Couldn't show the character sheets today (or yesterday for that matter) because of two reasons: First, I'm not at home but at a friend's house, and the scanner here is not large enough to accommodate my large drawings; and second, when I did try to draw the Goku AF character sheet it came out all wrong. He looked more from the early ages of Dragonball and did not fit Toyable's GT style.

I mostly draw in an American cartoon-like style for my work so I need to switch gears, if you will, if I want to draw the character sheets, thumbnails, and possibly the story boards for the intro. So I did a little DBZ-GT quick anatomy study (took about 20-30 min):

I used the Jump tour special Goku character sheet as my reference:
Image

First, I drew a normal "American" style male comic hero. Then, I drew what I believe is the average height for most DB male characters, without copying from the source (this does not include Krillin, Vegeta, or any of the kids):
Image

Next I wanted to compare "head" length:
Image

This is something I should have done from the get-go instead of trying to draw Goku head on. I know that there are some talented members out there who can draw DBZ characters with their eyes closed. I can, as well (with my eyes open), but only the more rounded soft style of Toriyama's early work I love so much. So the strong, angular look might take some getting used to.

Also if there's any artists out there who agree, disagree, want to participate in the project, or want to add something about character height and proportions, then by all means please share. As of Monday, after a few more character studies, I'm going to start the character sheets. Hopefully they wont look too out of place.

Just take a look at these... (scanned from Dragon Ball GT: Perfect Files 1):

If you need some more of these artworks drawn by Toriyama himself I could upload them... ;-)

Technically Princess Lila is the same character as the West Kaioshin who appears in the Z filler. As such, there are actually black and white character models of her that were used by the anime staff, which are reprinted in the daizenshuu. I don't think any feature her in a height comparision chart though.
macho_man wrote:If you need some more of these artworks drawn by Toriyama himself I could upload them... ;-)
Those aren't drawn by Toriyama, they were made by the GT staff (possibly Nakatsuru). The GT Perfect Files vol.1 does feature Toriyama's character designs for the main cast of GT, but those aren't them.

You're doing quite well, Scarz. Thank you so much. This project seems like it will truely become reality.

Quick question, how would you guys pronounce Xicor? Zeek-ER or Zeek-OR or something else?

Going by the katakana spelling, it should be pronounced "Zai" (ryhmes with "sigh" or "buy") and a long “co” sound like in "course" or "coast".
