Re: Favourite character
I love everybody. But Goku I love the most.
The following may sound funny, especially coming from a 21 year old, but I still look up to Goku as an idol.
I like the way he is so calm, innocent, childish and at the same time selfish, composed and responsible.
He seems to have found the balance in life. Plus, he can be so badass at times, it's enviable.

Re: Favourite character
Definitely, Son Goku, particularly when he was just a runt.
But every other person has picked Goku, so I'm gonna go with a couple off the wall favorites.
Tao Pai Pai, because he kills people with his tongue and flies on objects he throws! He's such a badass, and that particular volume of the manga is so very much fun to read over and over.
Yajirobe, because he's very much the anti-Goku. Tough as nails, skilled with the blade, yet, also a bit cowardly and more irresponsible at times than Goku. I loved his introduction into the series, and its good to see him jump in and help every now and then. I just wish he joined them on Namek. He could have been Bulma's bodyguard or something.

Re: Favourite character
Piccolo, of course. He just fascinates me. The history of the Child Of Kattatsu: his forgotten childhood, the isolation of Yunzabit, the twisting effects of the human world on an innocent mind, his battles with himself and ascending to the godhood to try to escape things only to make them worse, and if you add the battles with Garlic Sr. it just gets better. I still remember the first time I heard part of it, with Saichorou's story, damn. The three-fold lives of Kami and Daimaou and Ma Juniaa and the changes two of them went through (Daimaou never changed, only grew more insane and wicked) are awesome to watch unfold. Each character intrigues me on so many levels.
It doesn't hurt his position that when I started in on DBZ I was a Beast Wars fanatic and on this huge honorable warrior/Dinobot kick. The second time I ever saw the show was the ep where the three young Nameccian warriors die defending their village, and then when I first met Pic he reminded me intensely of Dinobot though I only found out years later it was the voice. I bought the awful edited-dub-only dvds from the Pioneer era for little more than just getting to hear Scott's Piccolo, it's such a big part of the character for me it's difficult to overstate how much it symbolizes him in my brain.
He's also just ridiculously handsome, but that's really secondary to everything else that's wonderful about him. I just love this man ^^

Vegeta. He's badass.
At first I liked Piccolo but he changed to good pretty quickly. Vegeta was evil most of the time.

Re: Favorite character
Piccolo is by far my favorite character. Piccolo evolves a lot over the course of the series. Although, his appearance barely changes at all. I'm not going to go into great detail and post pointless information we all know. One of my favorite moments with this character is in GT when he stays behind as the planet blows up.

Re: Favourite character
To make this slightly easier I'm just gonna assume it's Favourite Heroes... not including relatively minor guys like King Chappa or Namu either...
1. Son Goku- would you even be a fan of the series if it weren't for Goku? Sure the "Goku is the best. ALWAYS" thing kind of gets old after Freeza, but still, gotta give him credit
2. Tenshinhan- criminally underutilized in Z and GT. Missing out on Namek really screwed him over. But still, 20 years of training between Kid Buu and Gt should have made hima powerhouse again
3. Nail- the definition of Bad-Ass (yeah he's kind of minor but I had to put him on here) Toughest and coolest non-Z-Fighter in all of DBZ
4. Uub- favorite character in DBGT, he should have been part of the Black Star Trio (what I like to call the crew of Goku, Pan, and Trunks at the beginning of GT)
5. Yajirobe- so loveable. Gives Goku a run for his money at one point at the end of DB, cuts of Vegeta's tail (Hell yeah!), and, of course, he's hilarious
6. Piccolo- after the Freeza Saga he's my favorite Z-Fighter. Wish he had a bigger role in the Boo Saga and GT
7. Mr Satan- He and Mr Boo and Bee living in that house... so good. Even though I like Yajirobe better as a character, I'd say Mark here is the funniest character in the series
8. Mr Popo- he really should have fought more. I also like his character design
9. Muten Roshi- perverts = hilarious. 'Nuff said.
10. Number 18- favorite heroine. I'd feel uncomfortable if this list was all males lol
List subject to change!

Ne. I usually offer up a pretty thorough explanation whenever Ye Olde "Favorite Character" Thread pops up, but it happens so often that this time I'm'ma just keep my answer short and sweet.

See, this was the Piccolo moment I disliked the most. For the sole reason that they killed off Piccolo! One of the main characters! Piccolo! I mean, Goku got killed off and still got brought back. But they killed off Piccolo permanently!craddle wrote:One of my favorite moments with this character is in GT when he stays behind as the planet blows up.

Re: Favourite character
And everyone was sad for a few minutes, but then they went back to the party and had a grand old time.
.... *twitches*
I've got complicated feelings on the GT death. I mean I understand in his mind why he did it and it has a certain poetic note to it, but then I think about everything around it and why the writers did it and what an awful treatment he got in GT... and it makes me angry. Not as much as I used to get about it mind you (before I realized he wasn't sent to Hell for what his father did but went there intentionally), but still angry.
On topic again though, my second favorite character is Gohan. He's the first member of the cast I ever met- the bright eyed young boy gazing out the window of the spaceship to a tiny green planet far below. I liked him instantly in that episode, and only liked him more the better I knew him. He's the son of fighters who doesn't like fighting, an immensely gentle child who carries so much power in him like a yoke weighting down on his small shoulders. And the relationship in the series with the embittered man not much older than he who becomes his teacher and closest friend is just touching. One word Rocket and I'll punch your teeth out. Their training for the Sayiajin is my favorite part of the entire series. I haven't seen Buu arc yet so I've missed his 'fall from grace' period, and his character arc through Cell is pretty satisfying. And I like the idea that even with everything he goes through in his young life, he turns into a sweet guy and a wonderful father, much better than his own ever was.

Re: Favourite character
Dying in Dragon Ball in no big deal at all. Everyone knows for a fact that there is a afterlife which happens to be very nice.
Take Piccolo`s death in GT... He basically started living in the afterlife doing what he wanted.
The only really sad part is that they won`t see each other for years, until the rest of them die. But even that has exceptions, as we saw with Goku who returned to see them even in death.
So forgive me for saying this... But dying in Dragon Ball is not that sad at all.
The saddest death actually is Vegeta`s death, because Piccolo tells him to his face that because he did many evil deeds, he will be cleansed and reborn in a new body without any of his memories. Which means that at that point he will really never see his family again, nor will they see him again. EVER. Or at least he wont remember them. Now thats a sad death.
But even he got a second chance
So, what I find sad about the deaths in Dragon Ball is not the fact that they die.. Is just the circumstances in which they die (and the fact that the others might not get to see them until they also die). For example, Piccolo sacrificing his life for Gohan. The fact that he did it for Gohan is sad and emotional.

Re: Favourite character
Turles. Nothing better than a character who has an unexplained background and a bunch of followers. plus he's the worlds best gardener. woo.
And at a close second, if we're doing DB as well, Ninja Murasaki. The funniest character in all of Dragon Ball, and a better ninja than anyone in naruto.

Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!
Re: Favourite character
You might think that by my username that my favorite character is Goku and you are correct (for the most part). Though I have to say that my favorite character during the entire Namek/Frieza saga was definitely Vegeta. He was in that dark gray area, he wasn't a good guy but he wasn't quite a bad guy either. The part where he takes Frieza's 5 Dragonballs was amazing.
Re: Favourite character
Goku for sure.
He's just so damn funny.
I've always liked Goku from the day I started watching DBZ.
Vegeta is a close second.

Re: Favourite character
From "good" characters, Piccolo was my favorite for being the only one who doesn't have to become a Super Saiyan to have a good fight.
From "bad" characters, it's a tie between Cell and Tao Pai Pai. They both were so bad@$$.

Re: Favourite character
I kinda like Ginyu, mainly for the daft poses, but also maybe because, outside Freeza, he was the villain who's presence and eventual defeat forced Goku and Vegeta to co-operate. Well, before Vegeta pulled his wee stunt and left Goku on his lonesome.
I like Piccolo too. It's a shame he spent too much of the series underused, but that made the smattering of fights he took an active part after Freeza all the more exciting. I will always love that short one between him and Gero, particularly in the English dub.
