Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
I'll say that we won't get nothing more...... Only if Toriyama will do some new Dragon Ball story, like it was with Saint Seiya, they did only series from Sanctuary to Poseidon arc in 80's, Kurumada had Hades arc finished later and they did this portion of story in 2002 - 2008.
Now he's making whole new story in manga and people are looking forward to anime adaptation. But in case of Dragon Ball, with exception of Ossu! Special, there wasn't anything new for 15 years.

But I'm saying I'd hope it'd be more true to DB/DBZ.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Well, If Toei makes a new series, that's what you'll get.Baby Naruto wrote:

So it wouldn't be the same as what DBGT was then, right?

True to DB/Z? Dragon Ball GT was a direct sequel to Z, of course it was true to it's predecessor, it was just weak plot wise.Baby Naruto wrote:

I think there are different interpretations of "true to DB/Z" going on here. I'd take it to mean capturing the feel of Toriyama's work, which I don't feel GT did.

Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
It would be awesome if we got another Jump special that was maybe a bit more serious. There are so many possibilities - a story of king Vegeta, Goku's mother, Broly's childhood, a history of Trunks type story with Goku coming to earth and not having his head injury as a child. Who knows, though because only time will tell.

I'm just the opposite. While I'd certainly like more specials, I like the light-hearted nature of the Jump Special and would like more stuff like that.DbzFanboy wrote:It would be awesome if we got another Jump special that was maybe a bit more serious. Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
I totally disagree. I definitely thought GT had that Toriyama feel to it. The Black Star Dragon Balls hunt was like early DB (to a fault), and Baby was like Freeza or Cell in some ways, yet still a unique villain. If the same people who made GT decided to make another series, even if Toriyama's not involved (well... I'd prefer if he at least did a few character designs, as with GT), I'd still definitely watch it religiously and support it.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Oh yeah, I totally agree.Bussani wrote:I think there are different interpretations of "true to DB/Z" going on here. Obviously if Toriyama was as involved in it as DBO, then that would be even better
However, unlike DBO, I really really hope that if they make a new series it either takes place before GT, or if it takes place afterwards, it doesn't totally ignore GT like DBO. It's an insult to the (few) fans if Toei acts like they're ashamed of GT.

Well, they can be ashamed of some of it, like the Super 17 Saga, or Gohan going Super Saiyan, or no one else achieving Super Saiyan 3, or Piccolo being killed off, or the distinct lack of Tenshinhan; but as a whole, I don't think GT is anything to be ashamed about or shunted aside because a few hardcore fanboys bitch and moan about it all the time 12 years later.

Well, I'd prefer they not be ashamed of any of it, as I am a big fan of GT
Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
Something despised by the majority of the fandom can't be dismissed as "hardcore fanboy bitching" I don't think. I think that's more of a sign that GT was a shoddy product rushed out the door to make money.

Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
Maybe it was "rushed out the door to make money" (I don't know if it was), but I wouldn't call it shoddy. It's certainly better than the Garlic Jr saga or any other filler, and most of the movies (IMO).
Well, whatever your opinion on the series (I am well aware GT is not everybody's cuppa tea), it would be nice if Toei didn't pretend it doesn't exist, is all I'm saying. Unless a new series takes place before the end of Z, in which case they really don't have to pay attention to GT

Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
The only problem I have with the light-hearted material is the characters tend to behave out of character. It's hard to see Vegeta pulling a vegetable out the ground to see who's going to fight the villain. Although he did play rock-paper-scissors but then again I find Vegeta being out of character there as well.Kendamu wrote:I'm just the opposite. There's more to it than just, "it has the same elements, therefore it feels like Toriyama's work." It can have the same characters, the same setting, plots and villains that are almost ripoffs, and still not feel like something that was created by the original author. Which...makes complete sense, because it wasn't.TenshinFan wrote:I totally disagree. I definitely thought GT had that Toriyama feel to it. That's how I feel about GT. It sounds like it would work on paper, but when I watch it, it doesn't have the same feel that the manga has. Then again, neither do the movies and the filler in the anime, in my opinion; filler Goku acts completely differently to manga Goku. And that's my problem with GT: it feels like filler, which doesn't feel like the manga.
I don't hate GT, though. I can point out plenty of problems or things that could have been done better, but that doesn't mean I hate it or that I'm picking on it.
I'd watch it. Like I said earlier, what do I have to lose?If the same people who made GT decided to make another series, even if Toriyama's not involved (well... I'd prefer if he at least did a few character designs, as with GT), I'd still definitely watch it religiously and support it.

Hey, Bussani, do you think you could point out an example of how you think filler/movie/GT Goku acts different from real Goku? It's something I believe I've noticed too, but it's more of a feeling and not something I can really put my finger on.

Re: Will they ever make new DBZ?
If it's possible, I think filler Goku is dumber. Especially in "Z", where he seems to act like he's a child again. One example that springs to mind is in the afterlife tournament, where Kaio had to drag Goku, growling like an animal, away from the buffet so he'd fight his next match. Oh, and Goku learning to drive, too.Gaffer Tape wrote:Hey, Bussani, do you think you could point out an example of how you think filler/movie/GT Goku acts different from real Goku? I guess it's similar with filler in other things, too: they take a character's personality traits and exaggerate them to the max. So Goku gets dumber and more obsessed with food, and Chichi, Bulma and just about all the other females get louder and bitchier.
