Goku's Heart Disease
I heard a rumour that Goku got his viral heart disease from Yardrat. Now, I assume that this is wild fan speculation, since there is nothing in the manga or anything else to my knowledge that alludes to this being the case. Just for the record, though, is there any more information about Goku's heart disease?

Re: Goku's Heart Disease
If Goku got the heartdisease from Yardrat, it seems unlikely that there would be an antidote for it in Trunks's time.
All we know is that Goku died from the disease before the battle with the Android/Cyborg/jinzoningen/thingies in Trunks's timeline.

I remember hearing that well before FUNimation got to those episodes, so I think it's a misconception that's been around for a while. I believed it for the longest time, but caejones is right in his logic.

Trunks is from around 15 years into the future. I don't see why that's not enough time to find a cure in a world where people can make technology for time travel and visiting other planets.caejones wrote:If Goku got the heartdisease from Yardrat, it seems unlikely that there would be an antidote for it in Trunks's time.

But it'd be a cure for a space disease only one person as far as we know ever had, 12-15 years ago. Not to say it's impossible, after formulating this time travel plan, Bulma could have dug up Goku's body, cut out his heart and developed this cure but it's certainly more awkward than Goku being a victim of a new earth-based disease that was eventually cured by earth-based medical research.

Goku wasn't the only one who got it though was he? It was a virus that started spreading around that time, and he happened to catch it, I think. I can't find Trunks saying anything about it in my manga, but I'm sure I've heard that somewhere.

Chichi and Yamcha took a bit of the medicine, too, to make sure they didn't catch it. Likely, the disease was contagious. If it weren't, then there'd have been no reason to make a cure.Sprite Satan wrote:Kendamu wrote:Trunks is from around 15 years into the future. It probably was, it wasn't really my main point anyway. The real question is, is there proof the virus is extraterrestrial and if not why assume it is?Kendamu wrote:Chichi and Yamcha took a bit of the medicine, too, to make sure they didn't catch it. Re: Goku's Heart Disease
Probably the logic behind assuming it is the fact that it was a plot point brought completely out of random, with no current cure, right after Goku had spent a year in outer space. Doesn't seem too far-fetched that someone would meld those together.

Re: Goku's Heart Disease
Goku probably caught the disease in Yadrat since Namek and Yadrat were the only planets he visited before returning to Earth.
Are Sensu Beans supposed to kill person's disease if he has one? I somehow doubt it. It may restore your health and energy, but the disease can fuck you up again (like it did to Goku).

And he couldn't have got it from Earth because...?
Re: Goku's Heart Disease
I'm not sure, but noone in (Dragon Ball's) Earth had had such a disease. So it was probably from a different planet.

Re: Goku's Heart Disease
I think the misconception comes from Goku being the only one (we see) suffering from it after he returns from Yardrat.
In both the manga (VIZ) and subbed version, Trunks says their was no cure in Goku's time, but there is one in Trunk's time. This would imply that people other than Goku fell ill to the heart disease, since he says "we have a cure in my time" . If it was just Goku, I think he would have said Bulma worked on it as well as the time machine.
The dub of the anime goes a step further. Trunks flat out says the heart disease would effect others and tells Goku he would be hearing about it in the news soon.

Re: Goku's Heart Disease
There's no reason to assume diseases were non-existent, though. I mean, they had hospitals and stuff in Dragon World, so people must fall ill sometimes, whether to do with diseases or not.hleV wrote:I'm not sure, but noone in (Dragon Ball's) Earth had had such a disease. I don't think that's ever said in the Anime or Manga, but that seems like the most likely possibility.Amigo Ten wrote:Goku wasn't the only one who got it though was he? Re: Goku's Heart Disease
This is part of what gave me the idea. The fact it was so new it hadn't made the news yet made it sound to me like it just didn't exist yet. Not on Earth, at least. Goku picked it up, brought it back with him, and his Saiya-jin-ness let him fight it off longer than the average person, so he got sick later than the human population did.the_abberration wrote:The dub of the anime goes a step further. Another thing that gave me the idea was that Goku still got sick even after Trunks changed the future with his message. Goku wasn't doing the same things in the new time line that he did in the old one, wasn't going to the same places, etc., and yet he still caught he virus. So it seemed to me he must have already had it in advance of Trunks arriving, thus he must have caught it while in space.

Amazing how some virus from halfway across the galaxy is compatible with Goku when Earth viruses can't even infect all forms of life on Earth.

What makes you guys think its a contagious disease? Maybe its like cancer. Possibly he was born with it. Possibly its genetic.
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!
