That doesn't make any sense. Why else would someone be a "hater" if not for his acting or singing skills (or alleged lack thereof)? And why shouldn't they be allowed to bash it if they honestly think it's not very good?

Yeah you're right it doesn't. I have taken that part out now.

Quiet, you. We don't want to incur the wrath of Vic Mignogna fans, do we? :)

Although it would have been nice for the original Japanese singer to sing it in English, I kinda prefer that if it's sung in English, it is sung in pretty clear English, and not in broken Engrish (as charming as Kageyama's English versions of "Cha-La" and "We Gotta Power" were....).

Also, the second verse wasn't translated, so I don't look forward to full-length versions of "D'Oregon Soul" and "Yeah Break Care Break" anytime soon....

I think Schemmel did alright. But yeah FUNi really should stop being cheap asses and get some people to sing some songs for them, I mean hell, i'm sure people would be willing to dub the songs for them for either really cheap or free. It's free exposure and i'm sure theres at least some anime fans who can sing good.

What's wrong with professional voice actors singing songs? As long as the songs are translated right (rhythm kept, but also close to accurate as possible under said rhythm), and the right VA is chosen, it works out nicely.

It's fine having a voice actor sing, if they have some singing talent, like Vic Mignogna. Otherwise, they're better off not.

Don't really have his problem with his singing. In fact it's actually the ending I have a problem with, as the singing is so wooden.

As for Vic he does like half of Funimation's intros so it's nice to have someone new do the songs. (Yes, I am leaving myself open for you to comment how bad a singer you think he is.)

Given penguintruth's past record, he'd be more likely to incur the wrath of Mignonga himself, than his fans.

And now that I've heard a better quality version of the song.... Schemmel's not my favorite singer, he could use a little more power to his singing voice, but I think he sounds pretty good. And it's probably a good thing you can't really hear Goku in it.

Would you care to explain in great detail, why I am so talentless, when I keep get hired by professionals over and over to use my talents?
I happen to think you are very talented, Mr. Schemmel and I thought you did a great job with Dragon Soul. This reminds me of something that my former college adviser told me. He told me it's who you know that gets you in the door, but it's what you know that keeps you there. I firmly believe that is true.

You are right that if professionals felt you weren't worthwhile then why would they continue to hire you on board?

At least there's no stupid electronic wavering effect on his voice like the original.

....Oh hang on I'm getting mixed up with the ending song.

I thought Vic screwed up Funi's opening of Dan Dan, so I was glad to hear it wasnt Vic who sang Funi's Dragon Soul opening. I think Sean did alright but it could've been better.

If Vic did song the TV version of Dragon Soul, then comparisons with Sean's version are inevitable.

I think Vic's version stinks ^^ Hes usually a very good singer but for some reason he just sounds terrible for this, I heard Vic is the one who originally sang this song originally and Sean rerecorded it for the DVD release, thank god because Sean's voice works so much better for it.

My exact thoughts. I hate how Vic's voice strains so much here, and his voice cracks sometimes. I also don't like how he tries to add an extra "punch" to it by prolonging syllables. It doesn't sound like his usual work at all... perhaps it was rushed?

I also don't like Mignogna's version. His vocals are kinda odd on this one.

Thanks for the link. I agree with you, Vic version is....terrible. It could be improved if he sang it in the same style as the Japanese singer but his voice seems too hoarse and he doesnt know how to sing or put emphasis on the syllables or words.

Sean's version is better. If Vic did do the original singing then I'm glad Funimation recorded it again using Sean. Sean's version isnt great but its watchable.

Funimation's best opening by far is their opening for Dragon Ball. They found someone who could sing and replicate the feeling of the original Japanese opening, its not as good as the Japanese opening (Makafushigi Adventure in Japanese is legendary so you cant expect it to be) but its decent in its own right. Now the question is, why could've Funi rehire the person who sang the Dragon Ball opening for their English versions of Dan Dan and Dragon Soul....

Here's a link to Sean Schemmel's version of Dragon Soul for easy comparisons:

I thought the dub version of the Dragon Ball theme blew the Japanese version out of the water. That instrumental is so awesome.

I'd say the Japanese instrumental and singer of Dragon Ball's opening is better than the English one. But the reason the English version is good is because the English singer captured the spirit of the Japanese opening, he could sing, and he put the right emphasis on relevent words. The instrumental was good too.

But the English Dragon Ball ending is better than the Japanese ending, that girl who sang the English DB ending is a very good singer, better than her Japanese counterpart and once again the spirit of the Japanese ending is kept.

After setting the bar high with Dragon Ball, Funimation went downhill. Hopefully Funimation will do a decent job with the English version of Wings of the Heart, the 2nd ending of Kai by AKB48.

Here's a link to Kai's 2nd ending:

DB Kai's 2nd ending is better than Yeah Break Care Break.
