The subtitles weren't originally there.

I've always wanted to say that..

Ugh, am I the only person who ordered from Right stuf who hasn't gotten a shipping notice yet? I want to cancel my order and just buy it from Best Buy at this point...

I've been ordering off of them for years and have always gotten my orders on the release date and often times several days beforehand.

The subtitles are not hard-coded into the video. They can be turned off.

Um... yeah. I can't think of a single FUNimation DB DVD that doesn't have the option to turn subtitles off. VHS had hard-coded subtitles, but that, of course, was due to the nature of the medium. So, yeah... interesting retort.

If you watch Japanese DB with subtitles, you're not watching it "as it was originally presented".

No, both FUNi's DVD and Blu-Ray releases of Kai are in 4:3.

You might as well argue that if you watch television with closed captioning, you're not watching it "as it was originally presented." ...which is just as asinine to say the least.

But you're not not watching it "as it was originally presented" in your example either.

I believe I used the word "asinine." Although "non-sensical" would be just as fitting.

Of course it is. :P

This guy is saying that watching DBK with the original credits and title cards is watching it "as it was original presented". My problem with this is watching it with subtitles is going against this idea, as the subtitles weren't orignally there and were added by FUNi like the translated credits and title cards.

Really? This is a really a comparison to you? While I admit that original credits and title cards something that matters to me, I also admit that it's relatively minor in lieu of a lot of things. But a subtitles track comparison is so completely off-base that it's not just apples and oranges... it's apples and oranges on Mars and Venus, respectively.

Riddle me this, Daimaoh: What is the difference between a single set of credits produced by a distributor that has nothing to do with creating the show and a set of easily-disabled or enabled subtitles?

CHOICE!!!

Night-night!

They're similar. They both are translated from the original language (Japanese), so you can understand them in your native language (English).

Just finished watching it. I enjoyed the dub, even if its a bit flawed. I'd give it a B-, IMO.

Gotta say, though...

No, that was the final joke Goku told him to pass his test.

At least it made me chuckle, unlike Viz's, "What do comedians read? COMIC BOOKS?!"

I kind of think the point of that whole scene was to have Goku say a really awful pun. Viz's translation is a bad joke but...it's supposed to be. (Not saying Goku's line in the Kai dub is bad by the way.)
