Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
Well, it kept being posted that the 'surprise' might happen in the broadcast of #1 (and it wasn't the Mignogna Dragon Soul), but it didn't...so that's just more fuel to the fire, espicially since this news is suppose to be something a lot of us will love.

Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
A minor inconsistency like that would be pretty insignificant compared to the mistake of leaving Freeza's dub voice as-is during his actual story arc. I mean, what does Freeza do in Kai episode 1? Just laugh, right?Xyex wrote:I wouldn't count on a recast of Freeza. Not when Kai's supposed to be the one that fixes things. Throwing an inconsistency into the series right off the bat like that is an absurdly poor way to start. More than likely Young's changed up her voice for the dub. The only way I see Freeza getting a new VA would after hitting one of his other forms, instead of just a modified Young voice like before.

Well I think a friend of mine, who happens to talk to many actors who work on the Kai dub, just told me on accident that they really have changed Freeza's voice. While I can't give you a source, I think really this is what Kirbopher and Sean have been hinting at.

Much my own thoughts. I also see it as "Let's not overshadow the rest of the production by blowing our load right at the beginning of episode 1 with hinting at a major recast like that".Herms wrote:A minor inconsistency like that would be pretty insignificant compared to the mistake of leaving Freeza's dub voice as-is during his actual story arc. I'm backing the "Linda Young only voices first form Freeza and someone else voices the other forms" theory.
It would be so exciting to hear a more accurate-sounding voice for Freeza. X3

Edit, BLARG, I shouldn't take so long to make a post.
And I don't know about other dub fans, and I've not heard a whole lot of Kai yet, but I know for me I absolutely hate Rial's Bulma. It's annoying beyond belief. 10x worse than Volmer at her wost. And so far the new Gohan has not impressed me at all. It's not better than the old one, it's just a different kind of bad. I wish I had cable so I could actually watch the full dub to get a better feel of the two, instead of just clips on-line, but from what I've heard so far... bleh.

Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
I guess I'm alone in liking Young's voice for Freeza. Watching the Japanese broadcast of Kai, I've gotten used to his JP voice, and I like it just fine. But I loved hearing that laugh in episode 1. I switched over to the Japanese track to compare, and it just sounded silly.
Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
I'm neutral towards Rial's Bulma, but I dislike Clinkenbeard's Gohan. And I also like Linda Young as Frieza.
My friend's brother's baby momma's brother's fiancee's cousin's step father's neighbor's nephew's boss's fuck buddy read on YouTube that she was getting replaced, so it must be true.dragonpiece wrote:Well I think a friend of mine, who happens to talk to many actors who work on the Kai dub, just told me on accident that they really have changed Freeza's voice. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Inconsistency is inconsistency. Young was heard in the dub, that's all that matters.Herms wrote:A minor inconsistency like that would be pretty insignificant compared to the mistake of leaving Freeza's dub voice as-is during his actual story arc. And, quite frankly, if she's been replaced at this point, then I'm not watching Kai. Bulma and Gohan's changes are annoying enough with them fucking up another character's voice.

Maybe they'll make it seem like Freeza's voice aged into a deeper voice from the time Planet Vegeta was destroyed up to the Namek arc.
Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
Or, if the voice is recast, they'll just have to go back an redo the line in #1 for future releases.

Gohan and Bulma sound better than they did before. I don't doubt that they could find another voice actor that could do a good Freeza, but it looks like they've stuck with Young, which I'm fine with. She was in that returning cast list that surfaced when the news of the dub was released, and we've heard her voice in the actual show. They might get in different actors for the other forms, but that would be a bit weird.

Doing it right is not fucking up, they're at least trying to please dubbies, but they're busy being too picky and babyish, it's going to become like Ocean VS Funi all over again.Xyex wrote:And, quite frankly, if she's been replaced at this point, then I'm not watching Kai. Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
I'd say these recasts are the perfect description of the change of attitude between the Watson Era and the Cook Era of FUNimation. And since Sabat is Line Producer and head director, a lot of these changes are probably his idea.
Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
And not only that but:

How are they gonna list her in the credits and then just go ahead and replace her anyway?

Glad to see you're the one to decide what's "doing it right." And not only that, but they're trying to please you, but you guys are being picky as well, getting into three page arguments about Ox King saying "Get the smelling salts" even when it wasn't in a joking matter and complaining about certain voices being kept. None of us have any moral high ground to take so let's just be quiet. The Time Traveller wrote:Doing it right is not fucking up, they're at least trying to please dubbies, but they're busy being too picky and babyish, it's going to become like Ocean VS Funi all over again.Xyex wrote:And, quite frankly, if she's been replaced at this point, then I'm not watching Kai. Correct me if I'm wrong, but on-disc, Linda Young is credited *solely* for the first episode... right?
Right.
No problem, here.

And if this is the case, seems like it's the production company, too, deciding what's "doing it right".jjgp1112 wrote:Glad to see you're the one to decide what's "doing it right"

At this point if you're thinking that all 3 of those were terrible choices and are more annoying than their predecessors, you're either trolling, an out of control fanboy, or you just don't like something if everyone else does too.

Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
If the case is true that Frieza's other forms have a different voice, we aren't gonna find out until the third release since Frieza doesn't transform until Episode 37, and the second part only goes up to episode 26.
Kirbopher, can you at least tell us if we'll find out the 2nd release or the 3rd?
